Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Under normal circumstances, the Crown Prince would never be this careless. However, the joy of reclaiming his position had clouded his judgment, causing him to fall so easily into Gu Jiao group’s trap.

To avoid drawing attention, he naturally could not leave with a grand entourage. Instead, he had brought ten embroidered-uniform guards in secret to protect him.

For dealing with ordinary experts, this lineup was more than enough. However, against Long Yi, they were far too naïve.

Or perhaps, Han shi and An Hun had not even had the chance to inform the Crown Prince about Long Yi.

The carriage moved silently through the deserted streets. To stay inconspicuous, the Crown Prince had deliberately chosen a secluded route.

That, in turn, made things much easier for Gu Jiao and others.

The ten embroidered-uniform guards leaped and glided along the rooftops on either side of the street.

Whoosh!

One disappeared.

Whoosh!

Another was gone.

The leader of the embroidered-uniform guards on the left turned his head to count—one, two, three, four.

Then he turned again—one, two, three.

And Again—one, two.

A chill ran down his spine. The fourth time he turned——

Long Yi: Boo.

The embroidered-uniform guards’s hair stood on end. He unsheathed his sword and shouted, “Protect——”

Protect your uncle!

Gu Jiao suddenly sprang from behind Long Yi, clutching a small stick, and knocked him out with a single strike!

These embroidered-uniform guards were not particularly difficult to deal with. In less than half a quarter of an hour, all ten had been knocked unconscious.

Gu Chengfeng rushed straight to the Crown Prince’s carriage. The coachman’s expression changed, and he hastily reached for the sword at his waist. However, before he could even draw it, a dart from Gu Chengfeng lodged itself in his throat!

Gu Chengfeng was momentarily stunned. “Whoa, the hidden weapons Lady Nan gave me are amazing!”

The coachman tumbled from the carriage, landing heavily on the ground with a thud.

Frightened by the commotion, the horse reared up, kicking its front hooves wildly. The Crown Prince was thrown against the carriage wall by the sudden jolt.

He steadied himself by gripping the walls, rubbing his forehead where he had hit it, and asked coldly, “What’s going on?”

Gu Chengfeng had already taken the coachman’s seat, grasping the reins and soothing the horse. He smiled faintly. “Nothing, Your Highness. Just sit tight.”

Something sounded off.

The Crown Prince abruptly lifted the curtain.

At that very moment, Long Yi landed on the coachman’s seat, carrying Gu Jiao. Without hesitation, Gu Jiao swung her fist, striking the Crown Prince square in the face. His eyes rolled back, and he passed out instantly.

As Gu Chengfeng drove the carriage, he glanced back at the unconscious Crown Prince, whose nose was bleeding profusely. “Wait, why did you knock him out?”

Gu Jiao paused for a moment. “Oh, I forgot.”

There was no need to knock him out.

Gu Chengfeng sighed helplessly. “Forget it. He’s already out cold. Let’s just take him back first.”

“Mm!” Gu Jiao nodded seriously.

Long Yi sat on the roof of the carriage, while Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng occupied the coachman’s seat. Meanwhile, the Crown Prince lay sprawled on the carriage floor, entirely unattended, getting jostled left and right until his face was bruised and swollen.

As they passed a quiet street, Long Yi suddenly heard the sounds of intense combat.

He remained still.

He had no interest in other people’s fights.

Soon, Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng heard it too.

Gu Chengfeng, naturally drawn to excitement, couldn’t help but ask, “Who is it? Who’s putting out such a murderous aura in the middle of the night?”

Gu Jiao listened carefully for a moment before saying, “It sounds like Taoist Qingfeng and Liao Chen.”

“Liao Chen?” Gu Chengfeng furrowed his brows. “You mean that master of Jing Kong who never shows his face? That monk from the Xuanyuan Family?”

“Hmm… more or less.” Gu Jiao nodded. That guy couldn’t really be considered a true monk.

Gu Chengfeng was just about to ask if they should go take a look when suddenly, the usually indifferent Long Yi vanished in a flash!

He had gone straight toward the street where the fight was taking place.

Gu Chengfeng was completely baffled. “What is he doing?”

Gu Jiao blinked. “Dammit, he heard that it was Jing Kong’s master. He must have gone to help Liao Chen.”

Taoist Qingfeng and Liao Chen were locked in an intense battle, evenly matched and unwilling to back down. But suddenly, a tall and imposing figure descended from the sky.

One had hair—the Taoist priest.

One had none—the monk.

Long Yi locked onto his target and threw a punch straight at Taoist Qingfeng!

Taoist Qingfeng’s eyes narrowed sharply. Sensing the danger, he hurriedly withdrew his deadly strike meant for Liao Chen, tapped the tip of his foot against the ground, and soared into the air to evade Long Yi’s attack.

Long Yi’s fist landed on the stone pillar behind him, leaving several deep cracks in the hard surface!

Standing on the rooftop, Taoist Qingfeng eyed the unexpected newcomer with a heavy expression. He then shot a glance at Liao Chen and said coldly, “Next time, I will kill you.”

With that, he turned and disappeared into the night.

Liao Chen turned around, his gaze settling on Long Yi.

The man was tall and broad-shouldered, wearing a fearsome mask adorned with fangs. A longsword was strapped to his back, making him look rather intimidating. But just now, this man—or rather, this death warrior—had stepped in to help him.

Liao Chen spoke calmly, “Although I didn’t need your help, I suppose I should thank you.”

“Oh? Is that so? If Long Yi hadn’t stepped in, you would’ve taken another beating.”

Gu Jiao hopped down from the carriage.

Liao Chen let out a scoff. “I wasn’t going all out against him.”

That was the truth. Taoist Qingfeng genuinely wanted to kill Liao Chen, whereas Liao Chen had only thrown in a few lethal moves when he got annoyed. For the most part, he had been holding back.

“Long Yi, Gu Chengfeng.” Gu Jiao introduced them.

Gu Chengfeng stepped down from the carriage and greeted Liao Chen. “I heard you’re Jing Kong’s master. I have heard a lot about you."

Liao Chen smiled slightly, his peach blossom eyes shimmering with a charming light. “You’re too kind.”

Gu Chengfeng froze for a moment. Was it really okay for a monk to look this seductive?

Liao Chen, however, seemed more interested in Long Yi. “Where did this death warrior come from? He looks rather skilled.”

Gu Jiao replied, “Take a guess.”

Liao Chen spread his hands with a sigh. “I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”

Gu Jiao crossed her arms. “Then keep guessing. I’m not telling you.”

Liao Chen clicked his tongue and gave a faint smile. “Girl, you’re not very kind.”

Clack!

Just then, Long Yi’s jade thumb ring slipped from his finger and hit the ground.

Surprisingly, despite the fall, the jade ring remained unbroken, as if crafted with some extraordinary technique.

Long Yi bent down and picked it up.

But the moment Liao Chen caught sight of the ring, his expression changed drastically. Without hesitation, he strode forward and reached out to snatch it from Long Yi’s hand.

Long Yi was a man with strict boundaries. His personal belongings could only be touched by Princess Xinyang, Xiao Heng, and Gu Jiao. At most, he could tolerate Little Jing Kong.

Liao Chen was most certainly not on that list.

Without a second thought, Long Yi struck out with his palm.

The blow landed squarely on Liao Chen’s chest, sending him flying backward. But as he was thrown through the air, his sleeve flicked past Long Yi’s face——

Tearing off his mask.

In that instant, Liao Chen’s eyes widened in shock.

Because the face before him was one he would recognize even if it had turned to ashes.

Only, the first time he had seen it, it had belonged to a young boy.

A boy who had wielded a longsword in his hand, carrying himself like a lone wanderer of the martial world—one who, despite resembling a noble swordsman, was far colder and more ruthless than any true martial hero.

"Your life—I will take it today. If you have any final words, say them now. If it is something I can do, I will see it done." The boy’s voice was clear and cold, utterly devoid of emotion.

"It seems I have no choice in this matter… I have only one request. Spare my son. He has just turned eight. Please, do not harm him."

"Alright, I promise you." The boy agreed without hesitation.

"Father—no—!"

"Zheng’er, keep walking forward. Do not look back."

"Father… Father… Father—!"

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
