Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Princess Xinyang did not remember carrying the two medicines with her, but she recognized them. They were JiaoJiao’s exclusive formulas: the jade-green bottle contained the jinchuang medicine, and the white bottle contained internal medicine that reduced inflammation and stopped bleeding.

She had seen JiaoJiao apply these medicines to Xiao Ji back when he was recovering in Bishui Alley.

It must have been Long Yi who stuffed them into her pouch when he threw her clothes down.

Surprised and delighted, she pulled out the stopper of the white bottle, poured out two brown pills, and held them to his lips. “Take the medicine first.”

She remembered the dosage.

Xiao Ji did not take them. Instead, he frowned and stared at her hand.

Her palms and fingers were scraped all over. As an imperial princess raised like a precious jewel, she had never suffered such injuries except for the one time she carried Ah Heng out of a blazing fire.

“Hurry and take it, why are you staring?” Princess Xinyang urged.

When fabricating nonsense, he could speak more cleverly than anyone, but now that he had seen evidence of her deep worry for him, he suddenly did not tease her even once.

He silently took the medicine.

Princess Xinyang put away the white bottle and opened the jade bottle of jinchuang medicine.

“Wait.” He said. “This medicine seems expired.”

“It is not.”

“It is. The smell is wrong.”

“What part of it is wrong? Long Yi gave it to me. He would not give me expired medicine. If you do not believe me, I will apply it to myself.” While speaking, she pulled out the stopper, dipped her fingertips in the salve, and spread it over her wounds. “See? No redness, no swelling!”

Xiao Ji curled his lips and said, “Your hand is so rough, you cannot test anything that way. Try it on your knee.”

“You have so many problems.” Princess Xinyang lifted her trouser leg and applied a thin layer of the wound salve to the injury on her knee. “It is not expired. It is good medicine!”

Seeing her apply it to every necessary spot, Xiao Ji finally let out a faint sound of acknowledgment.

Princess Xinyang realized only afterward what had happened. The medicine had not been abundant to begin with, yet she had been fooled again.

Xiao Ji took the bottle from her with a look full of disdain and said, “Your hands are too heavy. I will do it myself.”

Princess Xinyang was just about to speak, but he did not give her the chance. “Turn around. You are not allowed to sneak a look at this Marquis’s body.”

Princess Xinyang: “…”

She turned around.

He blew out the flame stick.

Princess Xinyang clenched her fists and said, “I am not looking!”

Xiao Ji replied, “This Marquis does not trust you.”

Princess Xinyang again: “…”

The wounds on his body were far more numerous than what Princess Xinyang had seen at first glance. Taking off his armor alone almost cost him the half a life he still had left.

He bit down hard on his teeth and did not let out even the faintest groan.

Afterward, he spread the salve over every place that could be treated. As for wounds that were too shallow or too deep, he did not apply the medicine. The former did not need it; the latter would be useless.

Princess Xinyang had waited for quite some time, and she finally asked suspiciously, “Are you done yet? Do you need me to help you?”

Enduring the pain while drenched in cold sweat, Xiao Ji said, “Do not even think… about coveting this Marquis’s body…”

He then cut off a piece of his hem with a dagger, used the dagger as a splint to immobilize his fractured left forearm, and finally bit down on the cloth strip to tie a dead knot.

He did not sling his left arm around his neck.

He thought it would look ugly.

Leaning against the stone wall to catch his breath, he forced down the weakness and agony coursing through him and said, “I am done.”

Princess Xinyang turned around and reached out in the darkness to support his arm. “It seems there is a passage ahead. I will check whether we can exit through it. You wait here for a moment.”

“Let’s go together.” He said weakly.

“Are you sure you can even manage that?” Princess Xinyang strongly doubted the state of his body.

Xiao Ji used the dignity of a man to fill the gap left by his lack of strength. “Qin Fengwen, has no one ever told you, do not say a man cannot do something? Besides, whether this Marquis can or cannot, have you not personally tested it yourself?”

Princess Xinyang tightened her fists.

“Two nights.”

He held up two long, well-defined fingers and pushed the boundary of courting death to its final edge. “Do you want this Marquis to remind you… exactly how many times?”

Princess Xinyang’s entire mentality nearly exploded!

How had she ever fallen for this man!

Was it still possible to regret it now?

She really wanted to beat him to death!

But he was too fragile at the moment, so Princess Xinyang forced herself to endure.

A gentleman’s revenge is never too late, even after ten years.

Once you recover, just wait and see how I deal with you.

Princess Xinyang took a deep breath and regained the graceful composure befitting an imperial princess. She helped him up and said calmly, “Let us go.”

Even without seeing her face, Xiao Ji could sense the murderous aura around her, yet she was forced to suppress it due to his injuries.

Just imagining her darkened, bristling expression, wanting to erupt but unable to, made Xiao Ji unable to hold back a laugh.

Princess Xinyang gritted her teeth. “If you laugh again, I will leave you behind!”

……

The two of them walked along the passage for a very long time. Neither knew how long they had been walking, but finally, a faint glimmer of light appeared ahead.

Princess Xinyang felt a rush of joy. “There is an opening! We are going out!”

Xiao Ji, however, focused intently on the direction the light came from, staying alert to any possible movement.

His caution proved correct. Just as the two stepped out of the cave, two Dongyi soldiers suddenly turned around and drew their curved blades at them.

Xiao Ji’s armor, which belonged to a soldier of the State of Zhao, was extremely easy to recognize.

The two soldiers lunged forward to capture them alive, but Xiao Ji pushed Princess Xinyang behind him to shield her, snatched one soldier’s curved blade with a swift motion, and then, with one decisive move, delivered a blood-stopping strike. One blow, two kills!

The two soldiers collapsed onto the snow without even having the time to cry for help.

A sharp pain shot through Xiao Ji’s chest, and he lost strength as his body sagged downward. He dropped to one knee in the snow and used the curved blade to support himself.

“Xiao Ji!” Princess Xinyang stepped forward and crouched beside him, looking at him with deep worry.

“I am fine.” His wary gaze swept across the area ahead, and he spoke quickly. “Hurry and change into their clothes!”

Princess Xinyang would never normally wear another man’s garments, but at a moment where their lives were at stake, she could not afford to mind such details.

She stripped the armor and outer coats from the two Dongyi soldiers.

The two of them changed in time.

Marquis Xuanping buried the armor and garments they had removed under the snow, and he pushed the two soldiers’ corpses into a nearby ditch, covering them with accumulated snow.

Princess Xinyang helped as well. She raised her sleeve, intending to wipe the sweat from her forehead, but she remembered she was wearing someone else’s clothes and immediately lowered her hand again.

Breathing heavily, she said, “This should be enough, right?”

The moment her voice fell, both of them turned around——

And saw an elderly woman standing not far away in the snow, leaning on a cane, staring at them without blinking.

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR NEW PROJECT:

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
