Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Did those rebels realize that they had been toyed with by a mere grain-transporting cavalry youth?

Whom exactly had he learned such dramatic bluffing skills from?

Suddenly, a critical question came to Guo Mang’s mind. “Your identity as a member of the Xuanyuan Family is not also…”

Xuanyuan Xi replied, “My identity is real. I am indeed someone of the Xuanyuan Family.”

After saying so, he turned his gaze toward the leftover soldiers who were still standing in place and waiting, and he frowned as he said, “What are you standing there for? Plunder!”

Guo Mang was speechless.

Under Xuanyuan Xi’s leadership, the leftover soldiers of Cangzhou ransacked the rebel camp completely, not leaving behind even a single grain of rice or thread of clothing.

That night, after starving for many days, the army of Cangzhou finally ate a full meal at last.

……

Though Zhou Chongyue had died, his son remained, and the rebels’ twenty thousand soldiers remained as well.

The weather was still treacherous, and the reinforcements from Yunzhou could not arrive. The army of Cangzhou had only a little over three thousand soldiers left, and among them, only two thousand were still capable of fighting.

Guo Mang’s suggestion was to defend.

“We managed to seize some grain. As long as we hold our position until the Yunzhou army arrives, we will be fine.”

However, Xuanyuan Xi did not approve of this plan.

First, no one knew how long the weather would remain harsh, and the grain would eventually run out.

Second, there were too many wounded soldiers. They had to retake the city as quickly as possible so that the wounded could enter the city and receive treatment.

He said solemnly, “For a soldier with hot blood in his heart, the most painful fate is not dying on the battlefield, but dying of illness inside a military tent.”

Guo Mang was stunned.

He absolutely had not expected a twelve- or thirteen-year-old boy to speak such words.

Had he… also experienced death and suffering?

Otherwise, how could he possess such profound feelings?

Better to die in battle than to die of illness!

In the end, Guo Mang agreed to Xuanyuan Xi’s plan.

Three days later, Xuanyuan Xi led two thousand soldiers of the Cangzhou Army to launch an attack on the rebels’ right flank.

The rebels had never witnessed the true Black Wind Cavalry before, but Xuanyuan Xi’s reputation had already spread far and wide. Coupled with the command banner of the Xuanyuan Family, every rebel unit believed that the force attacking them was none other than the iron cavalry of the Xuanyuan Family.

The rebels’ morale plummeted, and Xuanyuan Xi seized the moment to press forward relentlessly, leading the Cangzhou Army in a direct assault toward the rebel commander’s central camp, and in doing so, he actually shattered a force of twenty thousand soldiers with sheer momentum alone!

Xuanyuan Xi first targeted the smallest division of their troops, chasing them down mercilessly and leaving the rebels no chance to retaliate.

An hour later, Xuanyuan Xi slew Zhou Chongyue’s youngest son, Zhou Fengdong.

Three days after that, Xuanyuan Xi captured Zhou Chongyue’s third son, Zhou Fengqiu, alive.

On the seventh day, Xuanyuan Xi gravely wounded Zhou Chongyue’s second son, Zhou Fengxia.

That very night, Zhou Chongyue’s eldest son, Zhou Fengchun, left the city and surrendered.

In only seven days, with merely two thousand soldiers under his command, he utterly defeated the twenty thousand rebels of Zhou Chongyue, bringing an end to the southwestern rebellion that had tormented the region for an entire year.

Xuanyuan Xi could truly be said to have become famous through a single battle!

Upon receiving the triumphant report from the southwest, Shangguan Yan was overjoyed, and without waiting for Xuanyuan Xi to return to the capital, he immediately issued an imperial decree to the entire nation, conferring upon Xuanyuan Xi the title of the first Martial Marquis in the history of the State of Yan.

A thirteen-year-old Martial Marquis, unmatched across all six states!

Xuanyuan Xi did not yet know he had been granted the title of Martial Marquis. With the southwest rebellion quelled, he prepared to return.

Before leaving, he rode to Sima Slope, sitting atop Little Eleven’s back on the high hill, gazing toward the distant whiteness.

Guo Mang rode beside him.

After a long silence, Guo Mang could not tell what was on his mind.

In recent days, Guo Mang had come to admire this boy younger than his own son. He had the passionate daring of youth but none of its reckless foolishness. He was brave and wise, calm in mind.

Guo Mang often thought the boy seemed born for the battlefield.

The cold wind blew sharply, and Guo Mang shivered. He glanced at the boy with cracked lips and resolute eyes and finally asked, “My Lord, what are you looking at?”

Xuanyuan Xi said, “Looking at the rivers and mountains of the State of Yan.”

Guo Mang thought for a moment and asked, “And… what do you see?”

Xuanyuan Xi replied lightly, “The State of Liang is asking for a beating.”

Guo Mang was confused. Why bring up the State of Liang now? The topic had shifted too quickly.

Xuanyuan Xi explained without hesitation, “Where did the rebels’ armor and weapons come from? Where did the funds to raise an army come from? Zhou Chongyue is just a warrior. How could he manage all this?”

Guo Mang’s face changed. “You mean… the southwest rebellion was stirred up by the State of Liang behind the scenes?”

A dead leaf spun in the wind and landed gently in Xuanyuan Xi’s palm.

He clenched his hand, eyes cold, and said, “The State of Liang.”

He opened his hand; the leaf turned to dust and was scattered by the wind into the snow.

The southwest rebellion was settled, and Xuanyuan Xi set out for the capital.

“The roads are still blocked. Why not wait a few more days?” Guo Mang advised kindly.

“No need.”

He wanted to return in time to spend the New Year with JiaoJiao.

He swung up onto the horse, his red cloak of silver armor fluttering in the wind, looking heroic and strikingly handsome.

Guo Mang froze.

This boy was astonishingly beautiful…

And ruthless in battle.

It was hard to imagine that this elegant youth had been the little killing god who made all the rebels tremble just days ago.

“General Guo, farewell.” The boy said, patting the horse’s neck with a smile. “Only thirteen days left, Little Eleven. It’s up to you.”

The adult warhorse reared, tensed every muscle, and opened its mouth wide as if laughing wildly.

Here I come!

It toppled an entire camp of horses.

Like an arrow, it shot into the endless wind and snow.

One rider, one eagle, one horse, braving the bitter wind and snow, crossed mountains, cities, and dense forests.

Finally, on New Year’s Eve, they reached Shengdu.

The snow in Shengdu was heavy too, but there was no wind today. Feathery flakes fell quietly, the streets were empty, and shops were closed.

The only sounds were rapid hoofbeats and the loud cry of the eagle circling overhead.

Xuanyuan Xi had not seen JiaoJiao for a year. He missed her so much it hurt and could not wait to be by her side.

“Little Eleven!” He tightened the reins.

The warhorse had grown with the boy and understood him. It increased its already swift pace.

The horse wanted to return too.

Human cubs were fine, but exhausting to run around with.

After a year of taking him for a run, it had had enough.

Now it just wanted to take JiaoJiao for a run.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
