Chapter 2562: Chapter 2571: Busted Red-Handed
Olivia Lewis really wanted to slap herself.
Why couldn’t you keep your mouth shut? Look what you’ve done now. Why did you have to speak so fast?
Her mind went blank; she had no idea how to explain herself. She stood there staring at the man, opened her mouth, and asked back, "Yeah, how did I get heatstroke?"
How was she supposed to know how she got heatstroke!
She must have been out of her mind.
There were so many other reasons she could have used, damn it, but she just blurted out heatstroke. It was all because she used to act in dramas a lot and often got heatstroke on set. She was usually in perfect health, rarely even caught a cold. So when Adam Sinclair asked her what was wrong, she instinctively said heatstroke. It was only after she said it that she realized it’s spring!
How do you get heatstroke in the spring?
It’s not like she was living in a tropical climate where it’s hot all year round.
The thing is, it’s been raining for the past few days in City W, with temperatures only in the teens.
The likelihood of getting heatstroke at around ten degrees is about as likely as cycling around the world.
Adam Sinclair was momentarily taken aback by her question, pressed his thin lips together, and frowned, "How would I know? Haven’t I been on a business trip for the past few days?"
Someone who’s been friends with Baron Lawrence for over twenty years couldn’t be lacking in intelligence, so he immediately caught on, a hint of scrutiny entering his eyes, "You don’t know how you got heatstroke?"
Olivia Lewis’s ears rang with alarms from his questioning. After a moment of buzzing, she decisively replied, "Of course I know. How could I not know?"
Adam Sinclair looked perfectly at ease, ready to listen to her explanation.
Olivia’s eyes darted quickly as an idea flashed through her mind, and she blurted out, "Maybe it’s because I took a long bath last night, had the bathroom heater on too high, then slept with too many blankets. So when I woke up this morning, I had a headache. I thought it was heatstroke, so I took a couple of heatstroke pills. I feel much better now."
The bathroom heater was on too much, the blankets were too thick...
This reason was too far-fetched.
Olivia herself knew how ridiculous her excuse sounded. Her beautiful eyes quickly curved into a smile as she tried to divert Adam’s attention, "Did you come here straight from the airport? Want some water? I’ll get it for you."
Adam knew her too well; from the moment she mentioned heatstroke, he’d suspected Olivia was hiding something from him.
Seeing her restless appearance only solidified his suspicions. He remained outwardly calm, going along with Olivia’s words as if he had truly been diverted, lifting his thin lips into a light smile, "Sure, I’d like some rose tea."
"Okay, I’ll make it for you." On the scale of slyness, they were clearly not in the same league. Olivia thought she’d really convinced him with her absurd excuse and immediately got up to make the tea.
As she went into the kitchen, Adam stood up from the sofa and searched the room carefully but found nothing suspicious.
His hand had just touched the bedroom doorknob and was about to open it.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"Coming, coming." Olivia called out from the kitchen.
He let go of the handle, elegantly stretched his long legs, and walked to the entrance hall, opening the door—
When he saw that the person outside was a man, and quite a good-looking one at that, the kind of pretty boy type that girls these days appreciated, his eyes narrowed slightly.
Olivia hurried out of the kitchen too.
Seeing the two men standing opposite each other at the door, she smacked her forehead hard, feeling a bit frantic.
How did she forget to tell Annan to come a bit later?
