Chapter 1970: Chapter 1971: Accidentally Broke the Glass
"Crash!" The crisp sound of glass hitting the floor echoed as the wine glass shattered into pieces.
"What are you doing!" exclaimed the waiter who was cleaning the glassware with her.
Chu Xi stared at the broken glass on the ground, dumbfounded.
"I, I didn’t do it on purpose."
The person was exasperated, "Don’t tell me, tell the supervisor! It’s so annoying, encountering someone like you. I’ve already reminded you, yet you’re still so absent-minded at work. Didn’t you hear the supervisor this morning? Mistakes this time mean instant dismissal. Don’t drag me down with you!"
Before Chu Xi could explain, the supervisor heard the commotion and came over.
Seeing the glass on the floor, his expression darkened and he angrily demanded, "What’s going on here, who did this?"
The girl assigned with Chu Xi quickly pointed at her, "Her!"
"She’s been out of it since this morning. I saw her spacing out and reminded her to focus on her work, but before you know it, she broke the glass."
The supervisor’s face turned even darker as he disdainfully stared at Chu Xi, "You?"
Chu Xi wasn’t part of his team; she was forced in by a small leader above him as a connection.
He didn’t care for connections, but having been in society for so long, he had learned to compromise.
Now the connection forced in had caused trouble, and he looked down on Chu Xi even more, almost without hesitation said, "Did you hear what I said to everyone this morning? No mistakes today, whoever makes a mistake gets fired. You’ve made a mistake as soon as you arrived, I don’t want to say much to you, figure it out yourself..."
Chu Xi felt her heart sink.
She had things she needed to do and could not afford to be fired.
But with the sudden incident, she couldn’t find a good solution immediately, so she could only plead, "Supervisor, I..."
Before she could finish, a hunched figure intervened, picking up the shattered glass with bare hands, "Peace in pieces, peace for years."
A haggard middle-aged woman swiftly swept the tiny glass shards into a dustpan and dumped them into the trash bin, smiling apologetically, "Supervisor, I don’t think she did it on purpose. It’s hard for everyone to find a job, and she already knows she’s wrong. Let’s let it go this time?"
She gave Chu Xi a meaningful look.
Chu Xi regarded this woman she’d always looked down upon, now selflessly standing in front of her, feeling complex emotions as she opened her mouth, "Yes, I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose. Please give me another chance."
The woman was afraid she might not apologize, and upon hearing her words, breathed a sigh of relief and continued pleading, "The wedding guests are about to arrive, and you can’t find a replacement for her at the last minute. Even if you want to penalize her, it’s perfectly fine to do it after the wedding."
The supervisor hadn’t intended to give face to a cleaner but hesitated upon hearing this.
Indeed, replacing someone at the last minute isn’t convenient.
It would take an hour to get someone else.
In an hour, the main guests would have arrived.
If problems arose then, it would be even more troublesome for him!
Once this idea clicked, he looked at Chu Xi with annoyance and said, "Fine, you stay for now. But don’t clean glasses here. Go help with sorting out the napkins over there."
All the napkins today needed to be folded into flowers; surely, she wouldn’t be strong enough to tear the cloth.
Leaving these words, the supervisor snorted and walked away.
The frail middle-aged woman let out a long sigh of relief and called out, "Little..."
