Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1933 - 1928: Methods of Persuasion

Chapter 1933: Chapter 1928: Methods of Persuasion

"Thank you for sharing, I shall take my leave now."

Placing the empty cup back, Fu Qian stood up, satisfied.

Though it didn’t seem to hold critical secrets, let’s not forget that this visit was about research and learning, which in itself was quite rewarding.

As for making peace out of hostility, Fu Qian wouldn’t entertain such idle fantasies.

Everyone understood that sitting down for tea together is just for mutual benefit and wouldn’t stop them from taking down one another next time.

"Can I leave through there?"

In a casual farewell gesture, Fu Qian pointed towards the door.

"No need, I’ll manage."

Nepheli waved her hand casually, and the next moment, the tea set was gone, including even herself, as everything around began to blur.

This special location was rapidly disappearing, as was the Spire outside.

In that final moment, though the ship didn’t crash into it but merely passed by, the towering Spire was suddenly unreachable, as if it had become a picture sketched on the horizon.

And in the direction the ark was heading, even the stars were absent in the darkness.

"Stoss was right, that night was more than just a massacre for this world; even concepts and reality have mingled into confusion..."

Involuntarily captivated by the scene, Nepheli left a sigh just before disappearing.

Her words undoubtedly confirmed earlier suspicions, that nothing happening here escaped her notice, including the conversation with the elder.

She deserved to be called a technical player, even when evaluating the ship as chaotic and in need of purification, she mastered it to this extent.

"Shall we head back?"

Amidst the sentiment, facing the rapidly restored room, Fu Qian confirmed with Su Gao.

"Alright."

The latter clearly shared the same thought and nodded firmly.

Interpreting the changes outside was one thing, but such a commotion would easily leave Lord Stoss in anxious waiting.

...

"Did you gain anything?"

It turned out that Lord Stoss wasn’t the only one growing impatient.

Returning the same way, when reaching the lowest level of the ark again, three pairs of eyes flashed towards them.

Nevertheless, the elder who spoke seemed relieved.

"The upper layer has also been fully repaired, the ship appears stable for now."

"The commotion outside hasn’t affected the interior; the strange changes here seem to originate from the ship itself."

With a slight nod of greeting, Fu Qian naturally responded.

"Indeed, I feel the same."

Fu Qian’s shared findings didn’t come as a surprise; both Stoss and Aike slightly nodded.

As for Professor Ah Kai, after a brief distracted observation, he resumed scrutinizing the few items placed on the ground, frowning in deep thought.

"Unfortunately, no progress here either."

The elder did not reproach him, acknowledging the lack of advancement on either front.

"However, this makes handling the subsequent issues challenging, given the exaggerated changes outside—what are your thoughts?"

Directing the question outside the ship, Stoss’s expression turned serious.

In just that brief moment, even the silhouette of the Spire was gone, pulling the surroundings into near-complete darkness.

The only slight comfort was the ever-elusive humming tune lingering since the start, never ceasing.

"It’s indeed not looking good."

Watching the increasingly perplexing scene, Fu Qian wasn’t blindly optimistic.

"So, do you think we should resort to the last measure?"

Asking this, the old man’s gaze was grave, clearly weighing a difficult decision.

"We shouldn’t."

However, the advisor’s decision seemed effortless, and his attitude was clear.

"How can you be so sure? What’s your basis?"

The intense reaction drew Ah Kai’s curiosity, and Demigod Aike interjected without concern for politeness.

"Actually, I’m not sure."

Fu Qian shook his head once more.

"Due to the lack of evidence, I can’t confirm if continuing to wait would inevitably lead to doom, nor can I ascertain if breaking through with force would avoid disaster."

...

Lady Nepheli would definitely wonder what reasoning Professor Fu would use to persuade Lord Stoss, especially without exposing her.

The elder’s approach might be somewhat domineering, but he’s no brute.

Feigning cleverness might inadvertently raise suspicion.

Heh... narrow-mindedness.

Why would persuasion need a reason? Only those lacking in conviction need justification.

There’s something called "credit endorsement."

The remarkable performance thus far holds real significance at this moment.

In situations where there’s no clarity, no basis for deciding right or wrong, the opinions of a weighty figure serve as a reason.

And there are even two such opinions.

"Su Gao... what do you think?"

The unexpected response clearly surprised Lord Stoss, and after some thought, he reluctantly acknowledged Fu Qian’s final rhetoric.

With no basis to judge whether it’s good or bad, brute force resolution becomes a gamble of sorts, unrelated to decisive ruthlessness.

"I agree with Professor Fu’s opinion."

Still succinct as ever, Su Gao promptly gave his opinion without hesitation.

Though they too had no explicit reason, their accomplishments alongside Professor Fu’s were evident, and their opinion carried weight.

...

"So you both prefer to continue waiting until something substantial supports your judgment?"

Fu Qian and Su Gao’s extraordinary decisiveness clearly caught the elder off guard.

Yet, amid the prevailing uncertainty, a firm voice wasn’t unwelcome.

Stoss, momentarily composed, discussed the subsequent plans with Fu Qian and his companions.

"Yes."

Again, it was Su Gao who spoke, with Professor Fu having set the tone now regaining a low profile.

"Alright."

The endless wait was undoubtedly gruelling, but the seasoned elder made a swift decision without overly troubling others or further democratic votes.

"Professor Ah Kai, is there—"

Before he could continue, Professor Ah Kai leaped up suddenly, interrupting him mid-sentence.

This kind of situation wasn’t new, and everyone instinctively turned to where he was fiddling earlier.

But this time, no scythe or similar menace appeared, instead—

Fu Qian glanced sidewards and slightly back, noticing a new downward passage that had silently emerged on the lowest level.
