Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 604: Turning Their Plan Against Them

“Play along with them?” Pei’er looked thoughtful.

Saul brought out the fake Wind Sprite’s body. “First, we need to figure out exactly how Clark is devouring you into his dreams. Then we need to sever this connection and help you recover your peak strength as quickly as possible, so you can resist Clark’s next move. All of this requires time.”

Saul summoned Ann with a single command and had her enter the fake Wind Sprite’s recently deceased body.

“Oh, Master, you got me a new body to play with?” Ann was very satisfied with the fake Wind Sprite’s body, immediately exploring it with her hands upon awakening.

Saul shared the information he had obtained with the consciousness bodies, then said to Ann: “During this time, stay here and disguise yourself as the fake Wind Sprite, try to buy time for…”

Saul glanced at the enchanting woman standing beside him. “Ahem, try to buy time for Pei’er to recover.”

Ann patted her chest. “No problem, Master! It’s just that I don’t understand the fake Wind Sprite, so I’m afraid I won’t imitate her well.”

“It doesn’t matter.” Pei’er spoke up. “Nerela was only imitating me anyway. You just need to delegate everything to your subordinates and spend your days in a daze when there’s nothing to do.”

“That sounds pretty simple.” Ann’s eyes rolled as she began learning Pei’er’s posture and stance.

It must be said that Ann was quite talented. With that pose, she actually looked more like the real Pei’er than the fake Wind Sprite had.

Saul turned his head as if looking at something. After a moment, he said to Pei’er and Ann: “This appearance can only fool the Wind Sprite’s subordinates. If Firefly Lord Herbert comes, he’ll definitely notice something’s wrong.”

“Herbert?” Pei’er frowned. “He and I have never gotten along… Are you saying Herbert had secret contact with Nerela? With his abilities, it would be impossible for him not to see through Nerela’s disguise, so he also knew about Clark’s attempt to devour me?”

Despite having reclaimed her body and main consciousness, Pei’er sadly discovered that her situation hadn’t improved much.

The entire Borderland seemed to be her enemy.

Her only ally was this little wizard who had just advanced.

Though, this little wizard did have some real abilities.

Pei’er found that he always seemed to know information she was completely unaware of, and he was very certain about the authenticity of this information.

If that was the case, then her cooperation with Saul had to continue.

Pei’er took the initiative: “I’ll cover Ann with my aura. As long as Herbert doesn’t come in person, he won’t be able to detect Ann’s abnormality during long-distance conversations.”

After speaking, Pei’er flipped her hand, and a palm-sized small mirror appeared in her palm.

It was actually a miniature version of the Baisek Magic Mirror.

After taking out the magic mirror, Pei’er hesitated for a moment, then with a determined expression handed the mirror to Saul.

“Keep this for me.”

Saul took the magic mirror with confusion and looked down to see a thumb-sized Wind Sprite Pei’er sleeping inside.

“This is your consciousness?”

“It’s part of my main consciousness. After returning to this body, I can feel a force trying to pull me into Clark’s dreamscape. Even part of my main body’s consciousness has already been submerged in Clark’s Dream Kingdom.”

“When Clark ambushed me while both my body and soul were wounded, although I could still resist at the time, if the stalemate continued, the final result would definitely be my being devoured by him. So I immediately abandoned most of my consciousness and body, split off another self, and went out to find medicine that could heal my body’s injuries. At the same time, to prevent Clark from discovering this other self, I blocked part of her memories and cognition. She knew nothing except that she needed to construct a Perfect Body. Even if Clark discovered her, he wouldn’t understand her relationship to me.”

Saul understood. “That medicine was actually your Perfect Body?”

Pei’er nodded silently. “You saw it too—the Perfect Body repaired the surface wounds on my body, but complete recovery also takes time. However, this at least allowed me to gain back one point in my contest with Clark.”

“But currently, he still has the better chance of winning. And as long as he investigates carefully, he’ll discover I’ve awakened. Then he’ll definitely use stronger methods to pull me back into dreams, and I’ll fall into slumber. But as long as the main consciousness in your hands isn’t invaded by dreams, I can still wake up independently and continue repairing my damaged spiritual body.”

“So, just as you said, I need more time now.”

Saul put away the magic mirror solemnly. “I’ll take good care of it.”

Pei’er smiled with curved eyes. She slowly approached Saul and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Now it’s your turn to state your conditions.”

Saul’s body tensed slightly. “My conditions?”

“Of course. You’re having your servant disguise as Nerela and helping me keep my main consciousness in the magic mirror. I don’t believe you don’t know this will completely offend Clark, and I don’t believe you’re truly this kindhearted… So, tell me what you want now.”

Wind Sprite Pei’er had a different figure from the Old Witch, but she was also a petite woman. When she wrapped her arms around Saul’s neck, she had to look up to meet his eyes.

She looked up with a gaze that was sharp yet playful, like a knife piercing into one’s heart without causing pain.

Ann watched from the side, suddenly feeling tense and starting to worry about her master.

“I wonder if Master can maintain his composure? Damn, I should have helped Master train in this area more often! Speaking of wizard, does Master have no experience in this area at all?”

Ann was anxious on the sidelines.

Pei’er also stared intently at Saul, waiting for his answer.

The result…

“Pfft! Cough cough cough…”

Saul lifted his hands to remove Pei’er’s soft arms, covering his mouth with one hand.

“That… sorry, let’s just talk normally. I don’t know why, but I keep thinking of you with the old witch’s head. If you stand farther away, I won’t have such a strong sense of déjà vu.”

The smile on Pei’er’s face stiffened for a moment. She glanced at the Old Witch’s head on the ground and waved her hand casually, sweeping it to an invisible corner.

“Fine!” She changed her demeanor, becoming somewhat impatient, stepped back, and leaned against the stone platform that had originally held the Wind Sprite’s body. “You’d better hurry up. Clark might probe my condition at any time. If I fall asleep immediately, you’ll have to wait until I wake up next time to negotiate conditions.”

Saul put away the smile on his face and said seriously: “First, I need your faction’s protection for the Purity Wizard Tower.”

“That’s no problem. The territorial divisions of third-rank wizard factions aren’t as clear as duchy territories. Clark doesn’t have time to worry about a small lake right now.”

“Second, I need you to help me advance to third-rank.”

“Just advanced to second-rank and already thinking about third-rank?” Pei’er snorted. “Although you’re indeed a genius in research, the higher the wizard hierarchy goes, the more difficult advancement becomes. If one out of ten second-ranks can advance to third-rank, that’s already good luck.”

“I don’t know about others, but I’m confident in myself.” Saul paid no attention to Pei’er’s mockery. “Since I’m certain I can advance, what’s wrong with starting preparations from the beginning?”

Pei’er didn’t know whether to praise his confidence or laugh at his arrogance, so she simply agreed. “Fine. But you also need to understand one thing. Starting from second-rank advancing to third-rank, external resource assistance is no longer the main factor. What can truly help you advance is your understanding of yourself and your communication with the world.”
