Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 705: Initiative

“Snap!”

Saul closed the diary.

“Still a death warning. It seems there really is a very dangerous secret hidden beneath the wizard tower.”

He shook his head and chuckled mockingly.

“What other secret could it be? Black Tide, anchor points, the Abyssal Eye, nothing more.”

On the ocean across the planet, there was an Abyssal Eye capable of destroying continents.

And the Abyssal Eye that had sunk toward the planet’s core had already changed the entire celestial body’s form.

Some wizards living in this world attempted to escape through Stargates, while others were still trying to prevent the Black Tide from fully erupting.

Combined with Camus’s words and the diary’s hints, the trend of the Abyssal Eye descending upon the Borderland and destroying everything could no longer be stopped.

The Tribunal’s various measures were probably all in vain.

And the Stargate Council, coveting the Stargates, might not be able to escape to safe worlds either.

The opening of Stargates might even bring unknowable disasters.

However, although Saul was now powerful, he still couldn’t influence the Tribunal and Stargate Council.

Fortunately, the diary hadn’t given a warning of certain death.

It told Saul to prepare an “antidote.”

Although Saul didn’t know what the antidote specifically referred to.

There were only two possibilities.

It could be the ability to resolve the Abyssal Eye or the ability to escape the danger of the Abyssal Eye.

And Saul planned to pursue both approaches.

He withdrew the magical barrier and patted the tip of Little Algae’s tentacle.

“In a few days, I’ll be going out on a trip.”

Little Algae raised its tentacle tip.

“I can’t take you with me. Don’t worry, I won’t abandon you. Right now, I can’t eliminate the Black Tide’s influence on you. So I plan to change approaches and make you stronger yourself, relying on your own power to overcome the pollution.”

Saul stood up among the overlapping tentacles.

“When I come back, I’ll bring you something delicious.”

After comforting Little Algae, Saul left the second basement and sealed this underground chamber.

He was preparing to leave the wizard tower, and besides him, few people could control the frenzied Little Algae. Sealing it up was safer.

Next, Saul spent five days quickly selecting several wizard apprentices and first-rank wizards to enter the Purity Wizard Tower.

Most of these were people he had treated—those already polluted by starry eye contamination.

There were also wizards with good talent and clever minds who were recruited.

This way, even when Saul was away, the Purity Wizard Tower could maintain normal operations.

Byron had originally wanted to go out with Saul, but Saul entrusted all the newcomers to him.

Just figuring out how to settle these newcomers and distribute experimental tasks would be enough to keep Byron busy for some time.

One morning, Saul finished a night of deep meditation and called all the consciousness bodies to the circular platform atop the wizard tower.

Ann had nothing much to do lately.

She wasn’t research-oriented talent, and after the Borderland became somewhat stable, she was even more idle.

She also didn’t like participating in Rhine City’s construction.

Having once been a core figure in a noble family, after death, she had grown tired of scheming and plotting.

Now she wandered around the wizard tower daily like a security guard.

She also liked pestering Saul, but unfortunately, Saul had become even busier than before after advancing to third rank.

And it was the kind of busy she couldn’t help with.

Today, when Saul suddenly paused everyone’s work and said he was taking them out on a trip, Ann was exceptionally excited.

However, Herman, beside her, looked somewhat distracted.

“What’s wrong with you?” Ann nudged Herman with her elbow.

Unexpectedly, Herman didn’t answer Ann’s question but suddenly walked up to Saul, who was communicating with the giant bird Diu Diu.

“Master.”

“Hmm?” Saul tilted his head slightly, his hand still stroking Diu Diu’s feathers.

Herman gathered his courage. “For this trip, I’ll just stay in your diary the whole time.”

Saul’s movements stopped, and he turned to face Herman directly.

Herman’s gaze was full of determination. “My current strength can barely be considered first-rank wizard level. My knowledge isn’t as broad as Agu’s, and my combat ability can’t compare to Ann’s. So I’ll stay in the diary—maybe I can help you.”

“No need!”

Saul suddenly cut off Herman’s words harshly.

“I don’t need any of you to sacrifice yourselves anymore.”

His voice was equally firm.

Ann suddenly bit her lip, feeling somewhat pained.

Actually, she, Agu, Herman, and the disappeared senior Morden were all dead people with no future.

They could hardly improve their strength and could only rely on external objects or Saul’s research.

Many times, Ann also felt she was a person without a future. So she had lost interest in many things she had enjoyed in life.

Although Herman’s request today was somewhat sudden, Ann had to admit she occasionally had such thoughts, too.

Staying in the diary might allow her to contribute her strength when the master needed it.

Or her life.

But today, she suddenly realized that Saul hadn’t treated them as consumables.

Unlike the later black pages.

They had accompanied Saul’s growth from first-level apprentice to now. Even if there had been conflicts, they had long since been worn away by long companionship.

Ann straightened her chest. For some reason, she suddenly felt more motivated to live.

She stepped forward and hugged Saul’s arm, then rubbed against it.

Saul’s mood had been somewhat dim thinking of Morden, but Ann’s actions immediately broke his defenses.

“What are you doing now?”

Ann deliberately spoke coyly, “Master, if you have any needs on the road, you can tell Ann anything~”

Saul twitched his mouth in disgust and pulled down Ann’s small white hands.

“Heh, no need to rush. You’ll all be plenty busy in the future.”

After speaking, Saul directly returned the three consciousness bodies to the diary.

Although he wouldn’t let these people stay in the diary for long periods anymore, occasionally putting them in was very convenient.

And very peaceful.

Saul jumped onto Diu Diu’s back.

The beautiful large bird with pale yellow feathers spread its wings.

The length of its fully extended giant wings already exceeded the entire platform’s diameter.

When it flapped its wings trying to fly, the shadow stretched by the morning sun cast on the ground had a magnificent momentum that blocked out the sky.

Marsh, who was planting mushrooms below the wizard tower, put down the small shovel in his hands and straightened up.

Outside the mushroom forest, the halfling Jiajia Gu, carrying a huge pack, stopped and looked up.

In the newly built Rhine City, Brando, who was buzzing in an argument with other wizards, looked toward the wizard tower and adjusted his helmet.

Diu Diu’s takeoff almost startled all nearby wizards.

News that the Borderland’s current only third-rank wizard was leaving his base gradually spread.

Then, news of Saul’s first departure from the wizard tower after advancing half a year ago quickly spread to more distant places.

However, these people spreading the news didn’t know that after Saul openly mounted the giant bird Diu Diu and left in front of everyone, he soon disappeared from the bird’s back, leaving only an illusion flying into the distance.

The disappeared Saul had teleported and appeared near the Old Days Manor, which hadn’t been visited for a long time.

He let Diu Diu continue flying southwest while he would meet up at the Hanging Valley entrance in a few days.

After Saul teleported and landed, a figure walked out from inside the Old Days Manor.

It was Ed, the first-rank wizard, who had been saved by Saul twice before.

“Tower Master.” He respectfully bowed to Saul, his eyes burning like flames.
