Chapter 479: Chapter 11: Captured
The street suddenly erupted into chaos, with the wooden stalls on either side shaking violently amidst the shoving, and the hanging cured meats and clay pots clinking against each other with crisp sounds.
The hem of Messiah’s dress was lifted by a trader fleeing in panic from behind, revealing the lace lining adorned with silver bells. She staggered, clutching Lynch’s arm, just about to inquire when suddenly a thunderous sound of barrels toppling over came from ahead.
“Damn it, what are you doing? Get your filthy hands off me!”
“Damn it, I’m going to twist your head off!”
Two men in coarse burlap cloaks suddenly tangled into a brawl for some unknown reason, causing the originally orderly street to instantly descend into chaos.
“Get out of the way, damn it, move aside!”
“Don’t push me!”
“Damn it, stop shoving!”
A large crowd surged in from all directions, forcing Lynch and Messiah to be separated in the swarming mass of people.
“Damn it, go to hell!”
Worse still, the two brawling men just happened to move between Lynch and Messiah, causing the crowd to split to both sides, involuntarily carrying the two along with it to opposite sides of the street.
Lynch frowned slightly.
With his Spirit Perception, it was easy to see that the two creating chaos on the street and the ones who had just targeted them were part of the same group. He wasn’t sure what kind of trick they were playing, but he was fairly certain they were up to something concerning them.
Hmm?
It was at this moment that Lynch suddenly noticed two sneaky individuals sneaking up behind Messiah, and not far from them was a carriage draped in black cloth.
Ha! Foolish humans courting death.
Lynch was somewhat surprised, not expecting to encounter human traffickers so soon after stepping out. The security in this society was remarkably poor.
If such an incident occurred in the Human World within his Witch Domain, he would at least call Erwin over to crack down on it; after all, how could a society that couldn’t ensure basic order advance his grand plans?
However, since he was on someone else’s turf, there was no need to concern himself too much. It would be simpler just to let those fools seeking their own deaths drop dead.
That was his plan, and he had even gathered his spiritual power ready to act.
But at that moment, he noticed Messiah’s expression on the other side of the street. Even in such a chaotic scene, she wasn’t showing any signs of panic or fear, as if nothing could faze her.
Would exposure to danger evoke any other emotional changes?
The initial intention of bringing her out was to help her understand this world and develop some emotions and desires. This adventure could serve as an opportunity, couldn’t it?
So after pondering for a bit, he nonchalantly placed a space coordinate on Messiah.
With further excavation of the Underground City, Lynch had acquired more Space Magic, increasing the number of available space coordinates to several hundred.
Aside from the previously available short, medium, and long-distance space coordinates, he had also acquired movable space coordinates.
This type of space coordinate could be placed on movable objects, leaving an imprint on them. Within a certain range, he could teleport to the object via this coordinate at any time.
After leaving this coordinate, Lynch did nothing special and instead quietly watched the situation unfold.
The traffickers, working with precision, surrounded Messiah from all sides, isolating her from the surrounding crowd.
Then, one of the traffickers standing behind Messiah pulled out a cloth laced with some anesthetic or other, pressing it against her mouth and nose. Messiah’s expression instantly stiffened, and she fell into a slumber.
Immediately following, two traffickers standing by supported her from either side, leading her to a nearby carriage, which swiftly drove off, leaving the other traffickers to scatter in disarray, including the two who had been fighting in the center of the street to draw attention.
In just the span of a few breaths, a living person disappeared just like that.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk…”
Lynch couldn’t help but be amazed at their methodical execution. With such skill, they probably didn’t reach this level of expertise without abducting dozens or even hundreds of people, right?
“Da da da!”
The district had just returned to peace when another hurried sound of footsteps arose, accompanied by the sound of armor clinking.
A row of soldiers came charging down the street, waving their fists to disperse the crowd.
“Move aside, everyone move!”
“Temporary street control, move aside!”
The crowd that had been packed into the street was pushed to the sides, while the peddlers and shopkeepers were hurriedly cleared out, leaving a wide main street swiftly cleaned and empty.
The soldiers lined up in two rows on either side of the street, separating the crowd from the road, all looking in one direction with solemn expressions.
“Is some big shot visiting? Could it be His Excellency the Viscount?”
“The Viscount wouldn’t have such a grand affair.”
“I heard it’s someone important from Karina and Orendale, people from the Light Church invited to attend a ceremony.” Read full story at novelꞁire.net
This passerby’s words immediately captured the attention of the surrounding crowd.
“Light Church? You mean the Light Church from the south? The one worshiping the Light Goddess, is it them?”
“Is it true that someone important from the Church is coming here?”
The system of beliefs and institutions that Lynch had crafted for the Light Church was certainly advanced for this era. The concepts of equality of all beings and reincarnation weren’t new, but not as specifically and lifelike as he had devised them.
Also, Lynch’s faith in suffering in the mundane world and ascending to the Kingdom of Heaven to enjoy the Light Goddess’s grace helped stabilize the ruling of the Nobles here. Therefore, it was generally welcomed by human society’s Nobles, who saw no need to deliberately stop it unless absolutely necessary, allowing its development.
Because of this, although the Light Church primarily developed in his domain, it had already spread out with population mobility over the years. There were quite a few believers of the Light Goddess even outside his Witch Domain in the secular world, especially in regions that bordered his territory, like Dusk Town.
Now that they heard an important figure from the Church Court was coming to their little town, the residents of Dusk Town immediately became excited. Even those who were initially displeased with the sudden lockdown by soldiers were now invigorated.
Everyone craned their necks in excitement, peering eagerly over the soldiers towards the street.
“Who is it?”
“Which important figure from the Church is coming?”
“With such a formation, it must at least be a bishop. Finally, a bishop coming to Dusk Town. Are we going to have a bishop in Dusk Town?”
Amidst the anticipation of the crowd.
“Da da da!”
A synchronized and orderly sound of footsteps resonated, followed by the sight of a uniformed troop marching down the street.
It was a company of knights dressed in golden, intricately patterned armor, their stern eyes visible beneath latticework visors. Mounted on exceptionally pure white horses, their synchronized steps and movements marked them as well-trained, conveying an imposing sense of authority.
Even such a formidable-looking company of knights carefully protected a carriage situated in the middle.
The carriage was white, devoid of excessive and lavish carvings, featuring only a sculpture at its forefront—a sculpture of an angel with outspread wings.
At the moment this sculpture was sighted, the heads of the crowd on the street exploded with excitement, rendering them speechless.
“The Holy… Holy Angel Sculpture!”
“It’s the Saintess!”
“It’s the Holy Daughter of Light, my heavens!”
