Chapter 484 - 16: A Life-Changing Ordeal

Chapter 484: Chapter 16: A Life-Changing Ordeal

“200 Magic Stones each.”

“That’s pricey, 150.”

“This is a Pocket Flying Elephant, a very rare demon creature. Where else can you find them? The lowest I’ll go is 190.”

“Just an Apprentice Level demon creature, rarity is useless, at most 160.”

“You…”

After some haggling, Lynch finally took all 6 Pocket Flying Elephants at a price of 168 each.

Profit, profit!

Pocket Flying Elephants are indeed rare demon creatures; although they’re quite low-level and not very useful, they do have certain collectible value. Many wizards buy them as collectibles, and their appearance is quite nice too. Some wizards like to buy them for their offspring to raise as magic pets. The price is usually above 300 Magic Stones, so Lynch got a real bargain.

This scene left Nana, who was following him, utterly bewildered.

The stall owner didn’t know Lynch’s identity, which was understandable. But Nana was well aware that Lynch was on par with their Witch Master, one of the few Second Tier powerhouses in Jade Land.

Such a big shot… actually haggling over dozens of Magic Stones?

“Why? Surprised?”

Perhaps noticing Nana’s expression, Lynch turned his head and chuckled, “Since we’re here at the market to stroll around, we should respect our status. As a guest, if you don’t haggle over prices when buying things, isn’t that quite dull?”

It’s not the Magic Stones that Lynch cares about; he cares about the ’touch’ that haggling brings.

As a Time Traveler, Lynch’s long life and monotonous existence have slowly eroded parts of his humanity, so he finds it essential to engage in activities that resonate with humanity to remind himself of that aspect of thinking.

Many wizards face such issues, and when their long life and numb existence start wearing on them, they often do all sorts of bizarre things.

For example, they indulge in lust, constantly mating with young beings, and some even go beyond their species, dabbling in homosexuality or exotic creatures from different races or even different subjects…

Some wizards choose to go to the Human World and play the part of a knight, noble, blacksmith, or just an ordinary farmer, living as an ordinary human being, establishing a family, marrying, and having children, experiencing a complete life.

At a certain point, wizards will inevitably struggle with time and life due to their long lifespan. To put it simply, they don’t understand why they live or the meaning of their existence.

That’s when they must do something extraordinary to remind themselves, to rediscover the meaning of life, and undertake a life-related trial.

This is a shackle. But it’s not a cultivation shackle faced by wizards; it’s a shackle encountered on a wizard’s life journey.

Breaking through this shackle is the only way to tread further on the Wizard’s Road, and failing to do so might result in endless entanglement, losing the direction and meaning of continuing on the Wizard’s Road. There are already many wizards who’ve gotten lost, faced cultivation dilemmas, or even ended themselves because of this.

For example, there was a wizard who couldn’t break through this shackle and instead got entangled, thinking that the pursuit of eternity by wizards throughout generations was not the ultimate end destined for wizards.

He considered it a curse, a tormenting curse that plunged wizards into infinite suffering.

Eventually, his thinking extended to viewing the entire wizard community striving for eternity as inherently evil, attempting to destroy the wizard community…

Fortunately, he was only a Third-tier Wizard, restricted by many higher powers, thus not causing too much commotion. His self-doubt indeed served as a wake-up call for future wizards.

Therefore, subsequent wizards never underestimate this human-like shackle’s existence. As they reach certain ages, they send students on trials to experience life and rediscover the meaning of life to break through the shackle. Nᴇw ɴovel chaptᴇrs are published on noᴠelfire.net

Lynch may appear to be only around a hundred years old, but his use of the Time Hut to twist time far exceeds that. Though it’s not yet time for him to undertake the trials, he can certainly start preparing for them…

Thus, in daily life, Lynch often assumes different roles, seeking his future trial direction.

After buying the Pocket Flying Elephants, Lynch continued to the second stall.

On this stall were some strange bugs contained in bottles. These bugs were pitch-black, covered in slippery mucus, and full of bizarre little eyes.

Just looking at them was enough to make anyone feel wholly uncomfortable.

Lynch raised his eyebrow.

Modos’ Underground Worms were among the many underground life forms in the Underground City, and they held a unique title—

Abyss Worms.

Yes, they are one of the many types of Abyss Worms, reportedly originating from the Abyss. Legends say they leaked into the Wizard World from an entrance connecting the Underground World and the Abyss.

The Abyss has always been a profound subject in wizardry studies, a direction many wizards actively research.

Lynch crouched and asked, “How much for these Abyss Worms?”

The stall owner studied Lynch up and down, noticing his overwhelmingly strong aura and temperament, dared not to neglect him and quickly said, “Sir, these Abyss Worms took me a tremendous effort to collect, and I lost several companions during the adventure…”

“Alright, just tell me the price,” Lynch said, somewhat impatiently.

The stall owner raised two fingers, “Two thousand Magic Stones.”

Nana looked disdainful.

Abyss Worms are extremely rare in the Surface World, but they are common in the Underground World, part of the regular species. Given their low level, patiently collecting them wouldn’t be too difficult, not warranting two thousand Magic Stones.

However, to Nana’s shock, Lynch, who had just haggled over dozens of Magic Stones, threw down a Magic Stone Bag without bargaining this time. “Count it.”

Not only Nana but even the stall owner was taken aback, had not expected Lynch to pay so readily, leaving the prepared haggling speech stuck in his throat.

Lynch ignored him, focusing on collecting the Abyss Worms.

As a market customer, after relishing in the joy of buying cheap goods, one should also experience the dissatisfaction that comes from purchasing overpriced items. Life’s many flavors cannot lack any.

After storing the Abyss Worms, Lynch moved on to the next stall, which displayed some tattered unknown items.

Purely out of curiosity, Lynch picked them up for a look, and unexpectedly, upon picking one item up, a sudden system alert sounded in his ear…
