Chapter 512: Chapter 7: Unlocking and Advancing Rune Power
Half a month later, Misty Forest, Guardian Tower.
In a spacious and wide laboratory, Lynch was busy at the experiment table.
On the long experiment table lay a corpse, its pale skin now marked with blue lines, forming strange patterns.
Lynch still decided to start with the idea of endowing adventurers with Mystical Level’s Power using [Rune Power].
There’s no other way; for now, it seems to be the cheapest and most convenient way to endow power, primarily complicated in terms of knowledge. Once the knowledge issues are resolved, altars can be constructed, and with Magic Stone and other materials, the endowments can proceed.
If the approach involved bloodline or organ transplant modifications, it would not only be complicated but materials would be a significant issue.
Any magical power adheres to the conservation of energy. If one were to elevate an ordinary human to the secret skill level through organ transplantation or bloodline modification, it would require at least secret skill-level organs or a bloodline of the same level… where could one find such things…
Small amounts of materials can be bought in the marketplace or sourced by hunting some mystical level Demons, but acquiring more is not feasible.
The truth of this world is consistent; whether Magic Beast, Demon, or otherwise, their societal rules and intelligent civilizational rules may differ, but the core group logic is the same: the stronger the power, the fewer the numbers, the greater the impact.
Creatures at the Mystical Level usually either belong to powerful groups or are located in areas not easily accessible, making them extremely difficult to obtain.
Additionally, the workmanship of bloodline or organ modifications is much more complex than runes, achievable only with Lynch’s direct intervention, unlike Rune Power which can be conferred via altar construction.
Of course, Rune Power also must adhere to energy conservation; however, its conservation primarily relies on knowledge and the Magic Stone.
With knowledge and Magic Stone, grant targets powerful Extraordinary Power.
For the former, Lynch figures it out himself, and for the latter, Fran takes responsibility, making this path relatively practical.
Even so, realizing it is quite difficult.
Firstly, it’s about knowledge.
Although Rune Power is a secret skill level inheritance, the knowledge points involved are rather limited, as seen from its rating:
[Rune Power max] (Second Ring Low Level).
This method of using runes to bestow extraordinary power demands extremely high knowledge. According to Lynch’s experience, the current knowledge level suffices only for bestowing Wizard Level’s Extraordinary Power, not nearly enough for the secret skill level.
Knowledge falls short; experience must fill the gap!
Reluctantly, Lynch can only continuously attempt experiments to see if he can enhance Rune Power’s level and compensate for the knowledge shortfall.
At this moment, Lynch was conducting an experiment in the laboratory.
The expansive laboratory was enveloped in a solemn tranquility, broken only by the barely audible “sizzle” sound made as Lynch’s specially made, glowing Rune Pen sliced through the air, akin to a delicate scalpel slicing an intangible fabric of energy.
The air was heavy with the scent of preservatives, a peculiar metallic ozone smell, and the faint, icy magic fluctuations emanating from the corpse.
In the center of the long experiment table, the corpse with its pale skin lay quietly, like a raw jade stone waiting to be carved. The strange blue patterns already present on the corpse seemed to possess life under the cold light of the Magic Lamp Bead on the ceiling, pulsating gently with Lynch’s pen as if breathing like some kind of luminescent deep sea creature.
Lynch was utterly focused, his movements resembling both a precise surgical procedure and an ancient ritual painting. The pen tip hovered about half a centimeter above the skin, not directly touching it.
With every subtle wrist movement, the specially treated arcane crystal embedded in the pen tip released a fine, concentrated beam of energy, like liquid sapphire. This energy beam landed precisely on the skin without burning or etching but instead ’weaving’ and ’branding.’
Soon enough,
Lynch completed the depiction of a set of runes on the corpse. He raised a hand above the corpse, palm facing downward, attempting to channel spiritual power into the corpse to activate the runes.
“Sizzle…”
As spiritual power surged in, a sizzling sound like electricity buzzed on the surface of the corpse, and the eerie blue runes lit up one after the other.
“Beep beep beep beep!”
A hurried alarm sounded from the alchemy instruments for detecting Energy Strength beside him. The metal pointer on the instrument could be seen rapidly climbing.
degrees…100 degrees…200 degrees…
degrees!
Yet, at this moment—
“Crack…”
A faint cracking sound like bones breaking was heard. This text is hosted at novęlfire.net
Suddenly, the skin of the corpse began developing fine cracks, exposing muscle fibers beneath.
Blood gushed rapidly from broken vessels, but quickly evaporated, vanishing as liquid energy of the same blue hue as those runes began seeping through the cracks.
“Crackling!”
The sound like popcorn intensified, and the cracks on the corpse grew more numerous, visibly causing it to expand.
Then—
“Boom!”
An enormous explosion echoed, and the corpse exploded into a mass of blue energy, vanishing instantaneously. Only the rapidly expanding energy remained, the core of which was a blinding white light.
If the 300-degree energy were to be released just like that, the existence of this laboratory, this tower, and even the surrounding forest would be questionable.
In the critical moment, a transparent barrier formed above the experiment table, quickly enclosing the corpse tightly.
The blue energy erupted within this barrier; though the barrier crackled under the energy’s onslaught, it remained steadfast and unmoving.
A short while later…
The laboratory returned to silence; however, inside the barrier, nothing was left. The original blue energy had vanished without a trace; the ill-fated corpse bearing the energy didn’t even leave behind any dust.
Lynch furrowed his brow: “This won’t do…”
This was merely raising the energy to 300 degrees, but the rune structure couldn’t sustain it, collapsing and causing an energy explosion.
And it’s known that the mystical level requires at least an energy intensity of over a thousand degrees.
Lynch rubbed his temples in frustration. With the current rune structures he mastered, even at their finest operation, they could only maintain an energy intensity of three to four hundred degrees. It’s far too short of the mystical level.
“Need to acquire higher-level rune structures…”
“But where to find them?”
Rubbing his chin, Lynch pondered: “I wonder if Fran’s Fatty could lend a hand…”
