Chapter 624: Chapter 28: The Delegation
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Ancient Ruins has also come to visit Feiyan City at this time.
This delegation is composed of forces from the Wizard Families of the Ancient Ruins, with a headcount of about thirty people. Leading them is none other than the former chief of the Dawn Wizard Academy, a genius from the Jomans family, Blair Jomans.
Time flies, and this once-prominent figure among the young Purebloods of the Ancient Ruins hasn’t had a smooth journey on the path of the wizard these years.
Due to the war, the Jomans family lost most of their resource territories, and the remaining resources are barely enough to sustain the family operations. Naturally, they can no longer afford to let the family members squander as before.
The so-called geniuses among Purebloods often rely heavily on abundant resources.
Now that resources have greatly diminished, most geniuses will naturally lose their former glory, Blair being one of them.
Without the vast resources to support him, his path of the wizard has been said to be full of obstacles, constraints, and every small step forward faces immense challenges.
To be precise, the path of the wizard was always like this; previously, he relied on the vast resources to forcefully overcome these obstacles.
Now, without those resources, cultivating naturally becomes very difficult.
Many of the once-great Purebloods have found it difficult to continue even basic cultivation after losing the support of resources, leading their path of the wizard to a halt, eventually exhausting time and being forced to enter the grave.
Blair is relatively fortunate among them. Despite a period of confusion and despondency after losing resource support, he ultimately relied on willpower to persevere, embarking upon the normal cultivation process, the normal path of the wizard.
However, the efficiency of cultivation naturally cannot compare to before. After all these years, he has merely advanced to a mid-level wizard.
This progress is actually quite commendable; however, compared to the overall wizarding standard, it’s only average, similar to some mid-level Muggles from before. He can barely be considered outstanding, far from the title of genius.
This time, upon hearing about the newly emerged Domain in the Jade Land, the Wizard Families of the Ancient Ruins decided to seek support from this Domain and sent a delegation specifically to visit. Blair was thus chosen as the leader of this delegation.
At this moment, walking down the streets of Feiyan City, Blair and his companions feel like country bumpkins just entering the city, filled with novelty and shock toward everything around them.
“By the gods… Is this… really a city built by humans?” A young apprentice widened his eyes, his voice trembling slightly due to the shock.
Blair did not reprimand his loss of composure, for he too could barely believe the scene before him.
He had prided himself on being worldly, having stepped foot in the most magnificent Wizard Tower group of the Ancient Ruins and traveled the Seven Kingdoms, experiencing the so-called splendor of the Water Capital. But the so-called prosperity of the Water Capital seemed like a crowded and chaotic village compared to this colossal behemoth!
What appeared before him was layer upon layer, like rings of a gigantic beast coiled up: one, two, three… a full five encircling city walls! Thıs content belongs to Nove1Fire.net
Each wall soared into the clouds, built from enormous, faintly glowing magical light gray stones, exuding an indomitable sense of heaviness.
Between the walls, there’s an orderly main thoroughfare, wide enough to accommodate ten carriages side by side, planned like a chessboard!
The buildings on both sides of the road were no longer wooden and stone structures but were extensively constructed with neat stone and some kind of warm-colored synthetic material, uniform and grandeur, with spires, arches, and reliefs visible everywhere, conveying a blend of order and power.
“Look at the pavement!”
An older, renowned for his erudition Griffin family wizard pointed at the ground, his voice tinged with disbelief, “Paved with gray stones? Even zoned? Cars run in the middle and on both sides… it’s specifically for people to walk?”
He had never seen a city’s roads specifically dedicate such smooth, spacious areas for humble pedestrians.
What made Blair feel further uneasy was the air.
Instinctively, he wanted to cover his mouth and nose, preparing to encounter the familiar city stench mixed with excrement, sewage, and rot – a “scent” that neither Water Capital nor any human-built city could avoid. However…
No!
The air only carried a faint scent of dust, the aroma of food cooking from afar, and a hint of fresh foliage.
“No foul smell…”
A lady known for her keen sense of smell murmured beside him, her face full of confusion, “I can even smell the wheat from the bakery… where has all their waste gone? Could it have been dealt with using purification techniques?” The thought seemed absurd to her—how much magic power would that consume?
Blair’s gaze swept across the roadside, noticing the intricately designed drainage ditches embedded under the stone curbs, with clear flowing water, devoid of any filth.
“Not purification techniques,” he said solemnly, with a heaviness even he didn’t fully realize, “it’s an impeccable… underground sewer system. A very advanced creation of combined engineering and magic.” What kind of organizational power and resource investment would that require?
The shock hadn’t subsided yet when a new impact followed.
A squad of patrolling soldiers wearing uniform leather armor and carrying longswords walked past them in neat order. Initially, Blair paid them little attention, but as his gaze casually passed over the soldiers, his pupils suddenly contracted!
“That armor… is it enchanted?!” exclaimed a young wizard specializing in alchemy, pointing to the seemingly decorative, yet slightly energy-glowing patterns on the soldiers’ leather armor, “Basic protection, lightweight, and even… elemental resistance?!”
“It’s not just the armor!” another sharp-eyed person pointed to the seemingly ordinary standard longsword at the soldiers’ waist, “See that tiny rune on the sword guard? Energy Sharpness! It’s undoubtedly an enchanted weapon!”
That wasn’t even the most outrageous part. A burly porter, wearing ordinary linen clothes, carried a huge wooden box past them. Perhaps the box was too heavy, as his exposed right arm’s muscles bulged, and under the skin, the metallic sheen and complex energy circuit patterns briefly flickered.
Next, a minor scuffle seemed to break out ahead. A merchant-like man appeared to try cutting in line forcibly, only to be casually pushed aside by a small-statured passerby—the merchant stumbled several meters away!
The diminutive passerby cast a cold glance, casually waving a hand, and a concise, searingly hot crimson blade of air slashed with a “swish” onto a roadside stone pillar, leaving a clear scorched mark!
“Flaming… Hand of Fire?! No, it’s Fighting Spirit with added elemental damage?!” The young wizard who had exclaimed earlier nearly bit his tongue, his voice changing pitch, “He… he’s a commoner! Not even a knight attendant!”
Blair felt his worldview crumbling. Enchanted gear equipped to ordinary soldiers as commonly as cabbages? Extraordinary Transformations so widespread that even pier hands and ordinary townsfolk possessed modified limbs and elemental powers?
This was simply overturning his understanding of the “Transcendent”! In the Ancient Ruins, even the most basic enchanted equipment could bankrupt a low-level wizard, and Extraordinary Transformations were exclusive to powerful wizards or noble knights! Yet here… they seemed to have become some sort of… “standard equipment”?
An indescribable complex emotion permeated among the envoys. There was shock, greed, but more so a deep sense of powerlessness and awe towards the unseen “Lord of Emerald” — a place managed to such extents, their methods and strength far exceeded their imagination.
With such a mixture of emotions, the group of envoys, led by the clergy, walked through the immensely bustling quarters of the district and finally arrived at the city’s core—the monumental Light Cathedral towering like mountains.
The white stone gleamed with holy radiance under the sunlight, with massive stained glass windows depicting sacred scenery, a solemn and majestic aura engulfing them.
However, the holy sight triggered intense resistance in Blair’s heart.
The shadow of the Freemasonry Church lay too deep over the Ancient Ruins, making him instinctively distrustful of any organization with a “church” label.
But recalling the mission they carried—to seek the protection of a newly ascended Domain for their family in turmoil—he could only suppress his inner aversion, following the guide into the vast and grand hall.
They were placed in a simple and elegant guest room in the side hall to wait, the air filled with incense and the distinct cold scent of stone. Time passed silently, each second causing the wizards a tinge of anxiety and humiliation—they were envoys from an ancient wizard family, after all!
Finally, faint footsteps and the rustling sound of skirts came from outside the door. The heavy oak door of the guest room was silently pushed open.
A young woman dressed in white gauze entered, surrounded by a group of Light Priestesses—
She was the supreme existence of the church, the Holy Daughter of Light.
