Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 1002: The Demon Kings?

The walk over to the Demon King’s palace was, well, rough. The number of demons there was just crazy, and for all of them to hate Lilith, it was even crazier.

Obviously, she might not have had a good track record because of her past. Notably, when she got exiled. But he thought that after so many years, the track record had faded and they saw her for who she was.

Not to mention, he had half expected the Demon King’s words to actually mean something. If he chose someone, didn’t that mean that certain someone was powerful enough to warrant the Demon King’s respect?

Even if that someone was the Demon King’s child, what difference did it make? They were powerful, and that was all that damn mattered.

Still, despite him overthinking it a little, Lilith seemed relatively unfazed. After all, she didn’t really consider most of these demons her own kin. The only demons she had grown up with and led were the Shadow Demons.

“Honestly, I wish these people would just piss off. Dealing with them is so annoying,” she said with a sigh. “Also, my father seems to be injured. Could you see what’s wrong with him?”

Considering they weren’t even there yet, she was rather impatient. So of course, Rael went ahead and did a quick check, making sure that he was fine. Yet he wasn’t. Much like Uriel, he had something going on with his body.

Except this time, the Demon King’s body was seriously injured. There was a large inner scar inside William’s chest, and from the looks of things, he didn’t have long left to live.

This revelation made Rael a little confused. Just who could have done something like this? He quickly did some digging, trying to find just who it was, and soon enough, Rael realized that the one responsible was right beside him.

Lilith had somehow injured the Demon King to the point his life would end soon. It was impressive by all means.

“Looks like you two fought and you injured him a lot,” Rael said with a sigh. “He’s not going to die since I’m here, but keep playfighting a little less feral.”

Lilith recalled the fight, then sighed. “Right… We had one fight for the throne, and I won it after destroying his Demon Core. He should’ve died, but I saved him. I didn’t know he was still dying.”

“You couldn’t have settled it with rock paper scissors or something?” Rael asked.

She shrugged. “Had we done it that way, the entire Demon Realm would’ve laughed at us.”

Laughed at them? Rael glanced around, seeing that there was already discord. Maybe laughing would’ve been a bit better than whatever this was. Sure, there were a lot of demons, but killing millions for no reason didn’t seem that nice.

Despite that, they eventually arrived at the palace, and William was already waiting for them on his throne. Seeing them approach, he rolled his eyes and said:

“I didn’t expect you two to arrive. What’s the occasion?”

“Apparently, we made it just in time before your funeral. How are you feeling, father-in-law?” Rael asked.

At Rael’s words, William’s brows twitched.

“You’ve gotten comfortable enough to call me father-in-law now?”

Rael chuckled. “Yep. I’m plenty strong now to not be scared of you. On that note, here’s your daughter, who nearly killed you.”

Just like that, the attention fell over to Lilith, who merely stared at her father for a moment before saying:

“You seem much weaker than the last time I saw you. Can’t you regenerate?”

“Try regenerating a broken Demon Core,” he replied with a sigh.

“Don’t you have plenty, though?” Lilith mused. “As a Demon King, the number of Demon Cores you have should be in the hundreds at this point.”

“And you shattered my first ever one. As the first, it was essentially the template for all my future cores. Without it, my body’s malfunctioning,” William replied.

Hearing that from the side, Rael got an idea. If all that this guy needed was a reset, then Rael could do it. Yet right as he was about to, Lilith raised her hand, stopping him.

“Don’t heal him. Demons don’t like it when someone else meddles with their fate.”

Rael raised a brow. “Would you rather he die here? Because although you two might’ve duked it out as you should’ve, he’s still your father. Not to mention, a lot of the demons are unhappy with the result anyway. Do you seriously think that having the Demon King die a death befitting the rules would really change their opinion?”

“Boy, no one really cares about their opinions. Not even the demons themselves care about their own opinions. The only thing they’re good at is speaking nonsense. They like to die too, because as demons, we see death as an escape. We escape into a realm of nothingness, then are reborn,” William said, putting a hand on his chin.

“And no, this isn’t a fairytale. When a demon reaches Grade 5, they are able to see their past life. Frankly, I was a farmer in my past life, but I lied to everyone and said I was a ruler. Who would know? Those who claimed to be from that era, I would kill. Simple as that.”

Rael chuckled. “So bullshitting your way into power, huh. That’s neat.”

Lilith pinched Rael’s side. “It is bullshitting, but he had the strength to back it up.”

Didn’t he still have it? Why insist on him dying? Rael couldn’t understand it, but then again, it was both of their wishes to let this play out however it would.

“I’m not intent on dying,” William said out of nowhere. “If I die from just this, then it wasn’t meant to be. However, if I survive, I’ll become infinitely stronger. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.”

Ah.

So in the end, it was all about power. How sad… He was already one of the most powerful, but still wanted to be a little more powerful.

Welp.

Rael decided not to intervene in that case.
