“Hmm…”
Lilith wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. Afterwards, she glanced between him and her father. There were a lot of thoughts on her mind. Some good, some bad.
But mainly… She was disappointed that he didn’t let her know before he did it. She would have said no… Most likely, but she still wouldn’t have felt as betrayed as she did now.
Was this their first fight? Lilith couldn’t help but snicker inwardly, realizing that this really was a pathetic thing to think about in this scenario. Instead, she focused her brainpower on what Rael had just said.
“So you don’t mind if I hate you?”
“I’d rather you not hate me, but there’s nothing I can do if you do,” Rael replied honestly.
Lilith nodded. “So you don’t love me, then?”
“How did you come to that conclusion…?” Rael blinked. “I do love you.”
“So why are you telling me to hate you?” Lilith asked. “Do you think just because you saved my father, I would hate you? No… I don’t hate you. I’m only disappointed in you. That’s all.”
Hmm…
Whatever kind of play she was doing with her words, Rael was way too stupid and oblivious to realize. Either way, he just stared at her, waiting for her to make a move. And she did, after a whopping 10 minutes of complete silence.
By now, William’s transformation had settled slightly, and although the mana was still chaotic, it was by no means what he had expected. He was fine, in a way. And as for Lilith, she was fine too.
“Rael, could you step out for a bit and let me talk to my father in private?” she asked.
Without answering, Rael quickly made his way out of the palace’s throne room, and to his surprise, on the outside, there were hundreds of people waiting, their ears glued to the doors and the walls as they tried to snoop in on whatever was going on inside.
Shaking his head inwardly, Rael snapped his fingers and coated the entire throne room in a soundproof barrier, making sure whatever conversation happened on the inside stayed on the inside.
And so, even Rael didn’t bother to listen, since he felt like he shouldn’t. His curiosity was great, but not that great, after all.
Just like that, the room was bathed in silence, with only William’s mana rampaging throughout the surroundings, and Lilith effortlessly negating it with a calm gaze.
She approached him slowly, her mana calming the surroundings as she eventually placed a single finger on his forehead. In the next instant, the chaotic process calmed considerably, and his mana became even more settled.
Before long, his transformation finished, and as expected, his strength rose to incredible levels. Perhaps he was once again stronger than her, which also meant he would retake the throne as a regular demon would.
Sighing inwardly, Lilith took one step back and then watched as he opened his clear eyes, which scanned the area and sent a chill down her spine.
“Where am I?”
Lilith pouted. “Your former deathbed. That’s what you wanted it to be, right? Hence why you didn’t even try all this time. You were just planning to die all along, right?”
She was relentless with her questions, since she knew the answers to most things he’d say. After all, they had spent a lot of time together while training. They had bonded, and although he might not have been a great father initially, she now knew him better than all her siblings combined.
And so, she knew that his end goal was to die so she could take over freely. Really… If Rael hadn’t helped, he would truly be dead. She hated it — watching someone she wanted to help refuse help entirely.
Still…
“So I’m alive. Rael intervened, I take it?”
“He did.”
“Hmm. In that case, thank him for me. I doubt I could have survived had I tried on my own,” William said, then let out a chuckle. “On that note, where is he? I’d like to thank him.”
A frown appeared on Lilith’s face. “That wasn’t your intention at all, and you know it.”
“Perhaps, but it’s too late for regret now. I’m alive, so I’ll take this second chance with dignity,” William replied and brushed some of the dust from his clothes.
Then, he glanced over to Lilith. “You will still remain king, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“As if.” Lilith scoffed. “I couldn’t care less about this dead title, so just take it back. It’s not like I’m stronger than you now.”
Whether he was stronger than Gaia, though, Lilith was sure he wasn’t. But he was definitely at the very top of the multiverse now. As for whether he was stronger than Rael — he would be killed before he could even activate the muscles needed to blink.
So yeah, that wasn’t a competition in the slightest.
“Please, as if I would take back what I had given. I can’t even duel you again, since under normal circumstances, I’d already be dead,” William replied with a chuckle. “Think of it as a curse for sparing my life. Deal with it, my daughter.”
Finally, he tapped her on the shoulder and approached the exit of the throne room. Evidently, he had realized that there were far more demons outside than he initially thought, and among them was Rael. He wasn’t trying to hide his presence this time.
Albeit, William did feel like some loose ends remained.
Turning around, he said:
“Is there anything you’d like to ask me, daughter?”
Lilith turned to him as well, confused by the question. Ask him something? Ask him what? He had already made his intentions clear, and she knew everything he would say. So what could she even ask him…?
What was the point of it all?
She thought long and hard, and although she didn’t expect it, she actually came up with something she wanted to ask.
