Capítulo 617: The Revival

The more Rael stared at the cocoon, the more he thought he was probably never going to see Anastasia again.

On one end, he didn’t really care.

On another, that would mean he had just wasted a feather on her.

“What are the odds they get along?” Rael asked.

“Zero,” Kareth replied plainly. “If they get along, I will gift you my palace.”

“Oh? Wanna bet on it?” Rael insisted.

Kareth turned back.

“You want to bet with my wife’s life on the line?”

“…”

“Yes?”

Hearing Rael’s response, he was left slightly stunned. After a brief moment, he let out a chuckle and then shook his head.

“Fine. If my wife survives, you get a palace. If I win, I will make you the Hollow Throne’s successor and force you to study my knowledge for the next millennia.”

“You’re betting against your wife?” Rael was more interested in that little fact. “But sure, if you’re so confident they are going to go at each other’s throats, then so be it. I accept.”

After all, Rael could spend the one thousand years trapped in time, so no time would actually pass on the outside.

Still, Rael was growing a little uneasy. What if she really died? Would Vatyra even do that knowing that Rael was here and he needed Anastasia’s support?

The cocoon began to enlarge, and then, when it was at its peak size, it slowly began to contract.

Powerful mana swirled inside the core of the cocoon, which of course was Anastasia’s body.

Rael tried to peer into the future slightly, but there were so many outcomes, he couldn’t confirm anything in such a short while.

So instead, he put his hopes in Vatyra’s understanding and watched as the cocoon finally vanished, revealing Anastasia lying limp on the ground.

Her skin was slightly brighter than before, but…

“I think I win,” Kareth said with a saddened smile. “Very well then, I—”

“AAAAAH!”

Anastasia awoke with a scream, startling both Kareth and Rael.

She looked all over her body, her brows twitching in both annoyance and shock.

Eventually, she rose to her feet, fixed her hair, and then glanced at the two of them who stared at her, stunned.

“I guess I won?” Rael pointed out the obvious.

Kareth nodded hesitantly. “It appears you did…”

Before they could continue their bickering, Anastasia dashed up to Rael and grabbed him by the collar. Then, she swung him into the sky and trapped him inside a golden barrier.

It was a snug fit. Rather, he couldn’t really move his limbs at all, and could only wait until he was crushed to death.

But that was when Anastasia appeared right above him, standing atop the barrier and glaring at him.

That continued for a few uncomfortable moments, until she finally spoke.

“What did you do to me?”

Pointing at his throat, Rael made it clear he couldn’t really speak. Seeing that, she slightly loosened the barrier, allowing him to at the very least lie down.

When he did, he decided to honestly answer her.

“You were about to die, so I used one of Vatyra’s feathers on you.”

It was a plain answer.

But her response was not as plain.

“No shit, genius. I know exactly what it is. I am asking why you did it. Because of you, I now owe Vatyra a great debt that I will never be able to repay.”

“You care more about debt than your own life?” Rael tilted his head. “You do know you have an eternity to pay back your debt, right? Kind of makes me think your age is just for show.”

“Are you calling me old?”

“…Aren’t you?”

That was, of course, a very wrong answer.

The barrier tightened around his neck, and as it seemed like she really might go ahead and kill him, a red head appeared right on top of the barrier, shattering it and freeing Rael.

He didn’t drop down right away as he stood in the air, staring at the person who had just appeared.

It was Vatyra, and for some reason, she seemed much more excited than before.

“Hello there,” Vatyra said. “I heard you talking about me, so I couldn’t help but listen in. You know, I was a little curious how you’d act after being revived by yours truly, but I definitely didn’t expect your arrogance to extend toward both of your saviors. Hmph, you really know no shame, dear little Ana.”

“Don’t call me Ana.” Anastasia glared.

“But I can call you little? Alright,” Vatyra teased.

They went back and forth at each other’s throats, and eventually, Anastasia broke the ice.

“Why did you do it?”

“Do what?” Vatyra acted oblivious.

“You know what…”

Letting out a chuckle, Vatyra said, “Seeing what’s about to transpire, I can’t help but feel like losing a Grade 8 might be a little bit of a disadvantage for our side. That’s why I revived you. There’s nothing more beyond that.”

After a brief pause, Anastasia responded.

“Unless you hit your head, you remember our past as well as I do. You can’t fool me.”

Sure, the words didn’t seem genuine at a glance, but Rael’s lie detection didn’t pick up a lie.

Furthermore, Anastasia had her own form of lie detection, and she was either too blinded by the past to trust it, or she just didn’t want to believe her own instincts.

Still, Vatyra’s unwavering gaze eventually made her give in.

“I don’t like leaving debts unpaid. Tell me what you want now, and as long as I can grant it, I will give you anything.”

“Anything~?”

An ominous sensation welled up in Rael’s chest.

Just what was she trying to pull here?

Even Anastasia felt uneasy, but still, her determination remained as she nodded twice.

“Anything.”

Hearing that, Vatyra’s smirk widened to the point it seemed unnatural.

Whatever she was about to say was going to be horrible.

Rael could only imagine the extent of Vatyra’s twisted imagination.

But as the anticipation seemed to be at an all-time high, Vatyra dropped a rather… strange request.

“I want you to be a nanny.”

“…”

A what?
