Chapter 725: Spirit Emperor
“Seriously…?” Astaroth muttered from the side, completely stunned.
And yet, Rael knew better than anyone that when life gives you lemons…
You get the fuck out.
“Let’s go.”
Rael pulled Victoria and Astaroth along by using his mana.
They passed the Higher God soon, and without being able to turn back, Rael tossed them into the spatial crack before finally glancing back at the Higher God.
Their eyes locked for a moment.
Sensing Rael’s curiosity, the Higher God added:
“Don’t think of it as a trick. For the Spirit Realm, I’m only an overseer. I watch the spirits and inform the stronger spirits about the weaker spirits’ whereabouts.”
He let out a sigh.
“I won’t say a thing now, but the stronger spirits will notice in due time. When that happens, you will have made an enemy of the whole Spirit Realm. But I’m sure you’ve already thought about that, hence why you’ve made such a rash decision.”
Rael shrugged.
“It is what it is.”
As simple as that.
So without wasting any more time, Rael finally stepped through the spatial crack, and only a few seconds later, he arrived back at the very top of the staircase where Astaroth and Victoria were.
Once they spotted Rael, they exhaled relieved breaths.
“Damn it… Why are you acting so nonchalant with him?” Astaroth said. “You almost got us killed talking like you two are the best of buds… God, sometimes you just make me want to come up to you and strangle the shit out of you.”
Rael rolled his eyes and showed Astaroth the middle finger.
Then he glanced over to Victoria and exchanged a nod.
It was pretty nice that she wasn’t as loud as Astaroth.
Though, Rael felt kind of strange calling him that…
In his mind, Astaroth was still Burger.
Anyhow, since there wasn’t much else left here to do, Rael proceeded to climb down the staircase, and as expected, the first couple of steps at the top nearly made him tumble.
But as he progressively made his way down, Rael didn’t feel the pressure anymore and treated it like some normal staircase.
As for Victoria, she struggled a little.
Astaroth, on the other hand… Since he was a Soulfire Dragon, he didn’t struggle in the slightest and treated the staircase in the same manner as Rael.
So just like that, the three of them began making their way down until eventually, they reached the very bottom.
Rael closed his eyes and tried to create a portal, but as Victoria mentioned previously, it was incredibly unstable, so the portal fell apart before he could even manifest it properly.
That meant he needed to go a bit further before he could create something.
And after just a couple more minutes, they reached an area where they could do exactly that.
It was by the same portal that Victoria had created earlier.
It shrunk a little, but Rael still felt like he could pass on through if he wanted to.
But instead, he simply stopped there and waited for Victoria and Astaroth to catch up.
In the meantime, though, Rael noticed that the spirits of the abyss started glancing at him from time to time.
It was a little bit creepy… and something they definitely didn’t do last time.
When Rael stared at them, they backed off, but it seemed like with every passing moment, more and more of such spirits emerged until eventually, there were thousands of such spirits staring at Rael.
Just then, Astaroth and Victoria arrived, sharing the same unease as Rael.
“These fuckers sense something is up, eh?” Astaroth remarked, glancing around. “Best we get out of here, since they’re about to start screaming like sirens and alert every single other being in the abyss.”
Other being?
Well… Rael wasn’t that keen on finding out.
And so, he glanced at Victoria, who had already begun making a portal back to the lower part of the Spirit Realm.
Just then, Rael felt a powerful pressure come from the direction of the staircase, and it was approaching rapidly.
The others seemed to sense it too as they quickly sped up what they were doing.
Victoria’s portal formed rapidly, and Astaroth began motivating her from the side like some little imp.
As for Rael, he focused on the approaching enemy who, in just two seconds, finally arrived in front of them.
It was a golden-haired man with tens of wings on his back.
He looked ridiculous at first, but from the power that came from him and the fact that Rael felt like his inspection was being resisted, he knew that this person was powerful.
Could it be a Spirit Emperor?
Maybe higher?
“Fucking Spirit Emperor… Piss off, bastard!”
Never mind…
The Spirit Emperor glanced at Astaroth and ignored both Rael and Victoria.
It seemed like he was here on a mission, and he didn’t even have any intentions of talking.
But in the same manner, Rael had no intention of giving Astaroth up.
So he took a step to the side and interrupted the Spirit Emperor from going any further.
He glanced down at Rael, then raised his hand.
Rael’s foresight reacted immediately, showing how his head went flying less than a moment later.
And without waiting for that to happen, Rael decided to make the first move.
A Heavenly Slash manifested in the blink of an eye and flew straight at the Spirit Emperor.
The Spirit Emperor narrowed his eyes at the attack and reacted by simply summoning a golden sword out of thin air and slashing vertically.
Rael couldn’t even see what happened until his Heavenly Slash simply passed through the Spirit Emperor’s body and continued flying forward, not dealing any damage.
Rael’s eyes widened slightly.
It was as though the Spirit Emperor converted Rael’s attack into something else, which made it deal no damage…
Definitely a powerful counter.
And so, Rael continued dishing out Heavenly Slash after Heavenly Slash, just to be countered repeatedly.
But right as Rael was about to toss another, the Spirit Emperor’s brows furrowed as he decided to finally take this fight seriously.
