Chapter 789: Assigning Work
After several more hours of banter and getting drunk, Evelyn eventually passed out.
Rael wanted to just fix her drunken state, because he could easily do so with his Laws.
But then again, he felt like it had been a while since she last relaxed like this. So with that good thought in mind, Rael hummed to himself, picked Evelyn up in a princess carry, and took her to a random guest room.
After he set her down on the bed and tucked her in, Rael laid her sword down beside her as well before finally leaving the room.
[Wow. I didn’t expect you to not even cop a feel while she’s sleeping,] Nyx remarked.
Stop trying to make me sound like a weirdo. Rael rolled his eyes. Also, instead of judging me all the time, maybe I should start judging you? What’s up with this fruit jelly galaxy stuff?
She didn’t reply, but she didn’t really have to, as Rael had already made his mind up about this woman.
Nyx was bad news.
Anyhow, now that Rael was done chatting with Evelyn, he knew it was probably in his best interests to contact someone else.
But then again, after hearing from Evelyn straight up how she felt, Rael knew that it was a bad idea to do so.
After all, how would someone he once knew feel if he suddenly summoned them and then asked them random questions about their life?
That’s right.
He’d be seen as some stalker, or rather, a spectator.
[Damn, she really got into your head good, huh? I guess a weaker being’s advice is sometimes better than yours truly,] Nyx said.
Rael scoffed.
I don’t discriminate between weaker beings and stronger beings. You should also know that by now.
Of course she did.
After all, while pissing Rael off, she was preoccupied with reading his memories. And after reading them for the last couple of hours, she had gotten a much better perspective on his personality.
So much so that she believed she could tease him and get away with it.
Obviously, that was a rookie move.
[So what now? If you’re not going to call them out, should we just scrap this whole reuniting idea? Should I pick out a movie the two of us can watch?] Nyx asked.
Rael thought about it for a moment, then nodded.
You can watch a movie by yourself if you want.
[Ugh… It’s only romantic if you watch it with me. Otherwise, I’d rather just sleep,] Nyx replied with a groan.
Hearing that, Rael felt like he had his work cut out for him.
But not only that…
“How about you step out here, then, and we talk?”
Puzzled, Nyx manifested herself and tilted her head, waiting for him to speak.
But what she most likely didn’t expect was this.
“You said you’re a good strategist, right? Since I’m sure you had plenty of fun combing through my memories, I want you to make a map of the areas that are most likely to be attacked by Solenne. I’m talking about general worlds, and even which parts of this world will be attacked, yeah?”
Before she could reply or state her frustration, Rael added:
“By the way, you contracted me, so enough being lazy and go do what I said.”
She grumbled in frustration.
“How about an easier task? I can sort out your paperwork if you want me to.”
“That was what the constructs were for, dear Nyx.”
There really was no way out of it.
And so, with another groan, Nyx stormed out of the kitchen and ran into the room where Zafira and he slept. For a moment, he thought she was going to do something weird, but when he walked in, he realized that she had begun to change her clothes on the bed.
Rael rolled his eyes at the sight and turned his back to her.
“You’re such a pervert.”
“You’re the one who came over here and looked. On another note, can you help me put my sock on? It’s stuck,” Nyx pleaded.
But Rael didn’t buy it for even a second and instead just continued standing there. Finally, Nyx dressed up and stepped out of the room.
She put on a surprisingly large purple dress. Furthermore, she had put on some black stockings and even heels.
It was almost like she planned on heading to some kind of ball.
But that was definitely not where they were going.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m getting comfy.”
“…With heels?”
She nodded.
“I’m a professional when it comes to walking in these things. You’d be surprised by how many times I have sleepwalked with these bad boys on. I didn’t twist my ankle even once!”
Right…
“Plus, I’ll be working from the sofa too. So it’s not like it matters. On that note, can you buy me a supercomputer? Or I guess, a super laptop? I need it for research and stuffing stuff into folders, and stuff.”
Stuff, stuff, and stuff, huh?
Well, since super laptops didn’t cost that much, Rael went ahead and purchased the first one he found in the Premium Shop. It looked plain as hell, but once the computer made its way into Nyx’s hands, the entire programming of the operating system was reprogrammed in a split second.
Rael wasn’t sure what she did, but the super laptop seemed to be running much faster now, so he didn’t concern himself with her any longer as she skipped over to the sofa and sat down before finally getting to work.
Rael felt like he had been played, at least partially.
She made it seem like she hated this, but her expression wasn’t that of a woman who hated work.
But even if Rael was tricked, he had pretty much sorted out the stuff he wanted to do here, at least until he was in a better headspace to continue talking with the others.
“Nyx, whenever Evelyn wakes up, tell her she can live here if she wants. The house is too big anyway.”
“Roger that, captain.”
“…”
Whatever.
Rael left through the front door, and after pondering it for just a moment, he decided there was a particular group of people he wanted to pay a visit to.
The barbarians.
