Capítulo 912: The Arena
A few minutes passed since their quarrel, and now, Altros stood with a red mark across his cheek. He teased Melissa so hard that she had no choice but to beat the shit out of him.
Of course, Rael didn’t step in, since it was very well deserved.
“Well, you said PvP arenas, right? I’m kind of interested, so lead me there, why don’t you?” Rael said with a smile.
Altros rubbed his cheek and nodded. “Sure… Also, can you tell this woman to not hit me anymore? I’m sure she’d listen to you.”
Rael shrugged. “Maybe in the future.”
Melissa gave both of them a glare, then puffed her cheeks out in annoyance. Without saying anything, she kicked off the ground and launched herself back to South Korea.
Rael watched her fly away, until finally, he followed after her. Except he was so fast that it was barely a challenge to cross such a distance. Albeit, he still opted to be careful, since this world had just been a normal world not too long ago.
God only knew what would happen to the atmosphere or the solar system itself if Rael moved several million times the speed of light out of nowhere. So of course, moderation was in order.
And because of said moderation, it took him nearly five seconds to arrive back in South Korea. To be honest… The countries along the way didn’t seem to be that developed, and if Rael had to guess, it had something to do with Altros’s, Melissa’s, and maybe even Karina’s existence.
Speaking of Karina, Rael was sort of curious how she was doing. After all, not having seen her for so long, it raised the question of just how her life had turned out in the past couple of years they hadn’t seen each other.
Anyhow, Rael put that aside for now as he followed the sibling duo. They led him to one of the many large arenas in Seoul, where there were thousands of people gathered.
The majority stood in a queue and waited for their turn. Every time one person left the arena, another would enter. It continued like that for quite some time, and Rael was sure that he would also need to enter this big ass queue.
But instead, Melissa took the liberty of cutting the line and flashing her government-issued badge, practically causing the eyes of the guards to pop out of their sockets.
“M-Miss Altros!”
“We didn’t know you would be visiting! We’re sorry!”
The two guards bowed, then added:
“Is this a three-person entourage?”
She nodded with a faint smile. “Yep. We’re here to spectate this guy.” She pointed at Rael. “He should be pretty strong, so if you want to make some money today, bet on him to win all his fights.”
The eyes of the guards sparkled as they swiftly nodded and let the three of them through. Rael felt it was a little bit strange to be treated as a VIP, especially in a world where he didn’t even know anybody.
But then again, getting free stuff was always nice. Even nicer than free stuff was getting free stuff ahead of everyone else.
Hehe.
They entered the arena and walked through a long hallway, covered in all sorts of cameras and motion triggers. It seemed like every movement he made was registered by one of the cameras and input into the system that existed here.
Rael always believed that shitty systems like this were the reason that robots took over and humans had their silly little apocalypses. But then again, it might just be a canon event.
“Don’t make any very sudden movements. This long hallway is meant to assess your strength and basically create a game character for you in the virtual world, which you’ll be able to use by the time we reach the end of this hallway,” Altros said.
Rael hummed in satisfaction and walked even more calmly than before. Just in case the system couldn’t pick up on his actual strength, Rael decided to walk especially slowly.
But all that seemed to do was cause some of the cameras to flicker and then crack under the pressure. That reminded him of Fear. He used to use it quite a bit in the past, and it was really fun too.
Maybe he should make his game character with that in mind? That would be loads of fun…
In just a few minutes of walking, they finally arrived at the end of the hallway, and to Rael’s genuine surprise, he was met with a giant stadium-like arena in front of him. Along the floor and in several dozen rows, there were Virtual Reality Pods.
He could tell there were so, so many people here, and every single one was in those pods over there.
Rael wasn’t really expecting it to be this advanced, but what about security? Whenever the people were inside those pods, wouldn’t someone just pop out and, well… kindly rob them?
As if noticing what Rael was planning from just his look, Melissa said:
“No, you can’t steal. There are cameras everywhere, and if you managed to enter this place, your whole DNA has already been recorded. If you so much as steal someone’s pencil, you’d be labeled a federal criminal and killed on the spot.”
Oh.
“What if I don’t live here, though?”
Her brows twitched at Rael’s words.
“No stealing. If you steal, I’m going to beat you up just like Altros was.”
What a bummer.
But oh well, it wasn’t like Rael could do anything about it. He could only smile and wave, since he knew that this woman would be a pain in the ass moving forward, especially with how curious she was.
Though… He also firmly believed that if Altros went away to train somewhere, she’d become more mature.
Anyhow…
“Alright, teach me how to log in and stuff. I won’t be playing for long, since my wives are going to wake up in an hour or two. But hey, I can have fun for two hours, can’t I?”
