Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1719: Rank

There was no doubt that had Ancestor Zeekr known that the reality was that Sylas hadn't been raised by the Weaver Guild at all, and had only spent a short few days with their teachings, it would have changed his assessment entirely.

A Sylas of this talent with the full backing of the Weaver Guild at his beck and call…

It was impossible to fathom just what sort of level he would reach.

Many explained the history of the Weaver and Seeing Eye Guilds too simply. They spoke of two powers with different approaches to nurturing strength, each one feeling that the other was in the wrong.

They were likewise close in proximity and thus butted heads, many times not even due to matters of their own will, but instead the actions of the system.

It was a story that almost said that they might very well be friends if not for circumstances.

But this couldn't have been further from the truth.

There was only one person in the Skai Heaven that knew the truth of the Seeing Eye Guild, and that person was none other than the very same mysterious and often forgotten eighth founder that Fanelei continuously referenced.

The Ancestors of the Seeing Eye Guild would rather burn everything to the ground than risk another such existence appearing for the sake of the Weaver Guild.

The last time, they had not only almost been exposed, but a Heaven War had almost been triggered long before they were ready. In the end, they edged that man out, and his life and death—the mysterious circumstances surrounding it—and all of the secrets whispered toward hushed mouths, were all things that only the Ancients of the Seeing Eye would be privy to.

Unfortunately for them… the only person who had this information was Fanelei. Well… Fanelei and a certain Purvon Heir.

However, for the very same reasons, both were bound to Sylas.

That said… there were many others who weren't currently in the right circumstances to disclose this matter that had the potential to expose this secret.

And not everyone who was might care to keep it secret for as long as they should.

It was hard to describe how simply unbothered Sylas was by the possibility that he was being praised at the moment. While he was doing this, in part for the praise—that was only true insofar as it helped him out with his Karma.

This mysterious, amorphous force that he couldn't quite grasp was something he didn't really like all that much. But, he had never put his feelings in so many words because Karma wasn't random.

In a lot of ways, it was the direct result of cause and effect.

How could he be mad at it? If anything, he was mad at himself for falling victim to it so often.

Any time that Karma had burned him, it was because he wasn't good enough, because he wasn't adequate enough.

However, that didn't mean that he didn't want to find a way to control it.

This world placed a lot of importance on amorphous concepts…

Will… intent… Karma…

Things that didn't inherently have definitions, even to the systems that tried to control them.

His Madness was probably one of the biggest mysteries of them all. It progressed only when he came to a deeper understanding of himself, and then it directly impacted his Will in unfathomable ways.

Was there any other Comprehension out there that gave a +10,000% boost to a stat? Even one across multiple stats?

The answer was likely yes, but Madness hadn't even reached its ceiling yet.

Sylas slowly opened his eyes.

A full two days later, Salivar managed to walk out. He looked tired and fatigued, but once again, his Aether surged and he was quickly back up to full health as though nothing had happened.

Once again, he said not a single word, looking ahead toward the next test.

For some reason, the boisterous young man had become completely quiet. He didn't make any excuses, he didn't seem hurt or disgruntled—he was simply focused in ways that were hard to describe.

It was no wonder the Seeing Eye Guild had such high hopes for him. Or, maybe, this was what it took to become a Cryst Emperor. Anything that placed such a heavy emphasis on Will was bound to have some character effects…

At least, that was what others might think.

Sylas had a completely different conclusion, one that he had already all but confirmed to be the case.

It would be up to Salivar's Luck whether he would suffer the effects of that conclusion or not.

The two stepped forward and entered the third test.

It was a complete replaying of everything that had already happened. Complete and utter domination, a gap that was unfathomable.

The more Sylas crushed Salivar, the more the latter's light dimmed and the more Sylas' own shone brightly.

The number of powers and individuals tuning into this unprecedented Quicktime Event was only growing larger.

Many of them had the same reaction—one of disbelief that there could be an F-tier so old and lacking in so many ways, and yet still daring to do such a thing.

But then the end result was always the same.

Shock. Disbelief.

By the end of the fourth test, the name of Sylas Grimblade was well known across the five most powerful Horizons beneath Demi-Godhood, and it seemed to only be spreading further.

But they were all anticipating the fifth test much the same.

This one wasn't one that could be fixed with Rune Mastery—at least not in the ways he had until now.

The first four rounds had always been random, a series of challenges selected from a large pool to stop the few from cheating the many. There was only so much one could do to prepare for so many different possibilities. In the end, it was either you were good enough, or you weren't.

But the fifth round was probably the most straightforward of them all in forcing you to prove yourself.

Sylas stepped forward and the world warped around him until he was in a world of white.

Across from him, Salivar appeared, his skin scorched through by the last round. But slowly, he began to return to full health once again.
