Global Gods : Skill-Resonance Awakened

Chapter 220: Ch 220 : A Purpose in Life

In the Heaven realm, a paradise of eternal happiness, two figures walked in silence. The rivers flowed, the trees bore shinning fruit, and the air was filled with a gentle, perfect warmth. It was a flawless, beautiful, and somewhat empty world.

"It's quiet," Gaia, the demigoddess of life, whispered, her voice the only sound in the large realm.

"It's dead," Uranus, her other-half, replied, his voice a low, frustrated growl. He kicked a pebble, sending it skipping across a glass-like pond.

"Master's Nine Lives blessing… it's a miracle for them, but it's a curse for us. Not a single soul has arrived in Heaven in a century. Cerberus is still busy, I suppose; the wicked always find a way to sin, but us? We are… useless."

"We are not useless, brother," Gaia said, her gentle hand coming to rest on his armored shoulder. "I have been busy. The new worlds of the Pantheon are unbalanced. I have been creating new species, new beasts and organisms to fill their ecosystems. There is much work to be done. There is much life to create."

"You have a purpose," Uranus countered, his voice sharp with an envy he couldn't hide.

"My purpose was to guide the worthy, to be the ferryman to their final, glorious reward. But there are no worthy souls to guide, because there is no end. I am a guardian with nothing to guard, a warrior with no one to fight." He slumped onto a bench. "I am a relic. A demigod without a purpose."

"If Master created you, then you have a purpose," Gaia insisted softly. "You just need to find it."

"maybe," Uranus whispered, his voice dangerously low, "my purpose is to find souls. And if no one is dying… then maybe…"

Gaia recoiled, a flicker of genuine fear in her eyes. The implication was horrifying.

"You should ask the Master," she said, her voice firm. "He will know. He will guide you."

Uranus looked at his sister, at the fear in her eyes, and a wave of self-loathing washed over him. He was scaring his own twin.

He nodded, his magnificent, angelic face a mask of internal turmoil and despair. "Yes. You are right."

In his God space, Sunny was in the triumph of his new creation. He had just set the Timepiece in the sub-realm for his clones, their 100,000x accelerated training now underway.

But a new, brilliant, and profitable idea had taken root in his mind.

'Why stop with my clones?' he thought.

He began to pour trillion of faith into the subspace, expanding it, forging new, stable pocket dimensions within it.

He was building a realm, where his subordinate Gods; Zir, Asura, Strategist, and the other 5.5 billion, could pay a small fee to enter their own time-accelerated chambers to comprehend their chosen Laws.

He would be charging them for the very privilege of becoming stronger, a new path to print faith and also make his subordinates stronger with each passing second.

He was just calculating the potential profit margins when the request came, a respectful whisper in his mind.

'Master, may I come to your God space? I wish to ask for your guidance.'

Sunny sighed, the interruption pulling him from his calculation of the profits. He waved a hand, and the very space in his throne room rippled.

Uranus, in his angelic, humanoid form, stepped through and immediately fell to one knee.

"Greetings, Master."

"Stand, Uranus," Sunny said, his voice casual. "What do you want?"

Uranus rose, his hands clenched at his sides, his handsome face filled with worry for the future. "Master," he began, his voice trembling, "I wish to know my purpose."

Sunny's casual demeanor vanished.

"I… I do not understand," Uranus continued, the words tumbling out of him, "You have granted near immortality to the universe. There is no death. The Law of Life… what is its purpose, if its cycle is now broken? Why do I exist, if the souls I was meant to guide no longer need me?" He looked at Sunny, his eyes filled with a desperate, almost fanatical plea.

"What is the meaning of life, Master, in a world where no one truly dies?"

Sunny froze. He looked at his creation, at this perfect, angelic being, and a cold, dawning horror crept into his mind.

He remebered the memory of Uranus's creation, the divine embryo pulsing in his hands, and he remembered his own, casual thought at the time: 'A being to collect the souls of those with good karma, a guide to the afterlife.'

He had created his Demigod of Life to be a… soul collector. He had, in his own, foolish, shortsighted "creativity", created a being whose fundamental purpose was tied to death.

And now, in the immortal empire he had built, that being was becoming unstable. He may even try to forcefully take away the souls of 'worthy' individuals according to him.

"I created you as the Demigod of Life. Not the Demigod of Death. Life is not about its end. Life is a beautiful, chaotic, creative concept. Look at your sister. Gaia's purpose is to create. She fills my worlds with new species, new wonders, new expressions of life. That is her path. You are the other half of that same coin." Sunny said, his voice calm yet his mind was also in turmoil.

"But… what is my purpose, then?" Uranus asked, his face a mask of confusion. "If I am not the end… what am I?"

Sunny looked at his creation, at the untamed power and the confusion warring within him. He could have given him a new, simple purpose. 'Go protect Ragnok.' 'Go guard the Timepiece.' But that would just be patching a wound, not healing it.

"That," Sunny said, his voice softening, "is something you must find for yourself."

Uranus's face fell.

"I gave you an affinity for a Law, Uranus. I gave you a divine will. I gave you life," Sunny continued, his voice that of a father's guiding hand. "I will not give you a simple, pre-ordained answer that a child could follow. Your purpose is not to collect souls, but to embody life. Is that life in the form of a protector? A healer? The very vigor of combat That is a journey you must walk yourself. Go. Find out what 'life' means to you."

Uranus looked at his Master, his creator, and he saw not a tyrant demanding obedience, but a father demanding growth from his children.

He bowed his head, his mind no longer filled with the blackness of despair, but with the light of a new, unknown path. 'I will try my best, Master.' He bowed deeply and stepped back through the portal, his heart heavy, but no longer empty.

Sunny let out a long, slow sigh of relief as the portal closed. "He scared me for a second," he muttered to the empty room. "Asking me for the meaning of life… what do I look like, a philosopher? I have no idea what the law of life is." He had bluffed, and by some miracle, it had worked.

He shook his head, pushing the philosophical crisis aside.

"All things are done for now. My lifeforms are advancing. My demigods are comprehending the laws and the subordinate Gods will be comprehending their laws in the accelerated time too."

He closed his eyes, his mind finally, finally clear to return to his own, crucial task: the comprehension of the SSS-Grade Law of Manifestation.

He sank into his meditation. The universe around him faded. The flow of time, the needs of his empire, all of it dissolved, leaving only the complex, beautiful, infinite patterns of the law…

Slowly.... Half a hour passed, while Sunny was busy comprehending the law.

SKREEEEEEEEAM!

Just then his Divine Intuition shrieked. It was an alarm of existential crisis, so loud it ripped him from his meditative state.

"HAAAAH~" Sunny's eyes snapped open, a groan of frustration erupting from his lips. "Life never lets me have a single moment of rest, does it?!"

He activated his God's Domain, his consciousness expanding, his divine sense flaring out, searching for the source of the threat.

But before he could even turn his gaze, the universe shook. His entire God space, his new universe, shuddered so violently that planets cracked and his manifested suns flickered.

Sunny leaped from his throne, his divine form crackling with power, his heart hammering in his chest. "This strength… The Demon Gods are here!"
