This was a secret exhibition. For the mysterious Far East, all the nobles exhibited a strong curiosity towards it. The exhibition's venue was large, and amidst the murmurs, shouts of surprise were occasionally heard.
Lorenzo slowly walked up to the massive bronze object. Its overall shape was slender, but due to multiple damages, its original form was indistinguishable. Yet, the remaining fierce aura continued to daunt people's hearts.
"They say it might be a weapon."
Selyu came to his side. Keen as always, she overheard the whispers of others discussing it professionally, as if it was not just the nobles here but also scholars from afar.
"A weapon?"
The object was too large, too big for a human to use, but Lorenzo did not refute Selyu's words. He understood well that some things could indeed use weapons that large, such as those Armors of Original Sin.
This was an armor weapon. Although Lorenzo could no longer discern its original appearance, it was certain that this was the strange weapon used by those Eastern armor from the mysterious Far East.
His eyes scanned rapidly, and amidst the surroundings, only this item exuded an odd aura, while other exhibits clearly displayed their functions.
But then, another person appeared beside Lorenzo, who looked over, somewhat surprised.
"Are you hosting this?"
"Otherwise, this could be called the first exchange between the Far East and us. Although it's merely some unremarkable things, I should be the one present, shouldn't I?"
Behind the silver-white mask, Bola softly said to Lorenzo.
"I thought you wouldn't come to the Lower City District anymore, Lorenzo."
"After mixing here for so long, can't I come back for a bit of nostalgia?"
Said Lorenzo, as he looked at the broken armor weapon in front of him.
"This shouldn't be just a simple exhibition, right? Clearly something normal is happening in secret in the Lower City District."
If it were grandly exhibited, with the Far East Jiuxia as a draw, the ticket sales alone would bring in a large profit. Yet, it hides in this filthy darkness like some shady deal.
"Because the upper class is also hesitating. It's a clash between two civilizations, East and West. No one knows what will happen with a rash contact. This exhibition is merely a signal to inform those upper-class nobles that guests from the Far East will arrive sooner or later."
"A precaution shot?"
"Probably."
Lorenzo attempted to reach out and touch the weapon, but stopped midway, his look at Bola filled with scrutiny.
"You should know what this thing is, right?"
"Roughly."
Bola didn't reveal much to Lorenzo, yet his reaction exposed him, making Lorenzo feel it's somewhat intriguing.
"Did you guys obtain armor from the Far East?"
The weapon existed here; they had no reason not to acquire that mysterious armor.
"We've only got our hands on a wreckage."
Faced with this, Bola surprisingly did not further cover it up, directly admitting it.
"You should've seen those monks; they crossed the ocean, hoping to exchange those remnants for a place to live."
"Sounds like something conspiratorial."
"Exactly, but this item is too tempting, isn't it? So we accepted it and temporarily settled them here."
"Do you know their identity?"
"Just know they're monks from a vassal state of Jiuxia, here for some so-called pilgrimage."
Lorenzo was briefly at a loss for words, then gazed intently at Bola, eventually sighing deeply.
"So what do you want me to do, Bola?"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't play dumb. I'm not a member of the Purification Mechanism, yet you tell me these things. Just like you couldn't resist the temptation to accept them, do you think I would resist the temptation not to take a look at the armor from the Far East?"
Hearing Lorenzo's words, the smile on Bola's face widened.
"I prefer working with the smart, especially like you. If you hadn't come today, they would be sent to the Perpetual Motion Pump tonight, and you wouldn't be able to see them. As for the cost, let's discuss that later."
Bola said as he led the way ahead. While walking, Lorenzo's gaze remained on the machinery in the exhibition. He felt things weren't as simple as Bola portrayed; a group of monks couldn't carry such heavy items over such a distance.
But then his pace suddenly stopped, Bola pointed behind Lorenzo, at a smaller "Lorenzo" he had surprisingly failed to notice someone else was following him at first glance.
"Is that your friend?"
Lorenzo thought for a moment and decided not to complicate matters further.
"My assistant, yes, an assistant."
Lorenzo said while lowering Selyu's hat again, concealing her completely in darkness.
Bola eyed Lorenzo with suspicion. He'd never heard of Lorenzo having an 'assistant,' especially not in a situation like this.
"I can only take you in."
Lorenzo found himself in a dilemma. He wanted to see the remnants of armor from Far East Jiuxia, but didn't want to expose Selyu's presence here, as that would lead to evident trouble later.
"Then leave it be."
Lorenzo waved his hand and refused Bola's invitation.
"You don't want to see it anymore?"
"But I can't leave her here. Besides, such things, as long as demons exist, I'll eventually have the chance to see."
Lorenzo was inexplicably confident, though this sense of confidence wasn't necessarily a praiseworthy trait.
Bola looked at them suspiciously, thinking that for Lorenzo to give up so simply showed that the identity of the smaller Lorenzo might not be right.
"Wait a minute, Lorenzo, you wouldn't!"
Bola seemed to realize something. He reached out to grab the smaller Lorenzo quickly, and Lorenzo surprisingly didn't stop him in time. Bola then cursed angrily.
"Are you really courting death? Do you need Arthur to crack your skull before you settle down?"
With that said, he flipped off the deerstalker hat, revealing the girl's face for a moment, confirming his suspicion.
"Quickly, send Eve back! Once Arthur finds out, it's all over!"
Bola wailed like a banshee, puzzled by how this maniac could be so interested in his boss's child.
"Wait, what are you doing!"
Lorenzo grabbed Bola by the throat and wrestled him in a bear-like grapple, and at that moment, the deerstalker hat fell, and Bola finally saw her face, but it wasn't Eve.
He stood dumbfounded for a moment, but soon this cold little face overlapped with someone in his memory. Bola sharply turned to Lorenzo, who attempted to appear aloof, though no one would buy it.
For a moment, Bola felt overwhelmed with emotion — surprise, admiration, and a sense of Lorenzo's high standards, particularly him targeting the Duke's...
"Miss Stuart?"
Selyu nodded coldly. The task of bringing her back was initially issued to Lorenzo by Bola. Though many years had passed, Bola still remembered her.
"Lo... Lorenzo."
Bola uttered as he drew a silver revolver from his waist.
"She's not yet of age! You're committing a crime!"
"What on earth are you thinking!"
The two maniacs yelled at each other, wrestling together, while Selyu watched their loss of composure, not intending to intervene. She pondered about the so-called Eve and who she might be.
