Instigator and Protector of Violence

Chapter 101: The Direction of the Wind

"So, who are we sending to kill him?"

Ethan faced the crowd and spoke slowly.

"Simple, according to the traditional rules, draw lots."

Sandro smiled and spread his hands.

As a result, George directly conceded, saying, "I abstain, I'll give up half of my share for the next two months, is that okay?"

The Evans Clan indeed had no more people, and couldn't afford to lose anyone.

"I agree." Sandro nodded, looking at everyone.

Since George was so straightforward, willingly giving up benefits, the others had no objections.

So the scene turned into a one-on-one, king against king.

Ethan, and Sandro.

Ethan, at this moment, could not back down.

Every confrontation with Sandro was crucial now.

This was a showdown between the new and old forces of Winster.

It was also the wind wandering between the two of them before the final strike.

For now, the wind was temporarily blowing from Ethan towards Sandro.

"Let's draw lots then." Ethan tapped the table.

John Hott stood up at this moment and said, "Why don't I host it? Do either of you have any objections?"

He was a third party, not part of the Mafia, and if speaking of connections, although he was introduced by Sandro, his main employer was Ned.

Ethan was quite close with Ned now.

"I have no objections." Ethan and Sandro shook their heads at the same time.

John Hott immediately ordered someone to bring paper and pen, wrote different contents on two pieces of paper, then swapped them behind his back before pressing them into his palm.

"Come on, who'll choose first?"

"Sandro is the elder, let him go first." Ethan looked at Sandro.

Sandro did not refuse, nor did he hesitate much; he said the left hand.

John Hott raised his left hand in front of everyone, then revealed the answer.

He was not a transcender, just a common man, and everyone could clearly see his actions; no cheating was possible.

The answer was: No.

He then opened the other hand's answer, for the sake of fairness.

The slip indeed read: Yes.

Ethan.

"I understand, I'll send someone to do it as soon as possible."

The meeting ended.

On the way back in the car, Anya already knew the content of the meeting and said, "Master, could it be a trap?"

"For now, it doesn't seem so... but Sandro would not make a move without reason."

The situation was as if two swordsmen had reached the moment of matching their auras.

Though the wind was blowing towards Sandro, who could say Sandro wouldn't suddenly show some extraordinary move.

After getting home, Vincent proposed that he go on this mission.

"Albertine's strength should be second to the True Name of the Law Enforcer, Virel is not suitable to go, I should go instead."

Ethan nodded but said, "No rush, let's wait for the Shadow to arrive."

Now that they were aware Sandro might have some tricks, they couldn't rush.

This matter needed to be done steadily.

It needed to be done neatly, without fanfare.

The Shadow had already dealt with matters back home and would soon arrive in Winster.

This was one of Ethan's hidden trump cards.

And then there was...

Gustav.

"We'll go to Winster University later."

Since we gave Gustav an officer's true name system last time, it's necessary to fully prepare if we're going against Albertine.

So later that evening, Ethan arrived at the seaside cliff.

But the atmosphere at Winster University felt a bit off today.

Oppressive.

There weren't many people visible at the school, even if there were people, they walked briskly as if afraid of being caught by someone.

Ethan came directly this time, without notifying El in advance, so he didn't see him immediately.

However, on the way to Gustav's lab, Ethan overheard a few students whispering.

"I heard... agents from the Kingdom Defense Bureau came to our school?"

"It seems it's true, they even went straight to the principal's office, what's going on?"

"Could it be something happened to the principal?"

"Forget it, let's not talk about it. That's the Kingdom Defense Bureau, we better hurry to class."

Upon hearing this, Ethan stopped in his tracks.

Kingdom Defense Bureau?

The principal...

So Solomon hadn't come looking for Loren earlier?

Then how did Loren disappear?

Ethan wasn't afraid of the Kingdom Defense Bureau, he even had a slight personal relationship with Solomon.

Out of curiosity, or rather, a desire to confirm something, Ethan also headed toward the bluestone building.

As he reached the entrance, he saw El standing there, looking worried, but not entering the bluestone building.

"Dean El, has something happened?" Ethan called out.

"Oh, Ethan, why are you here?" El seemed a bit dazed.

"I haven't attended class for several days, so I thought I should come," Ethan said offhandedly, then returned to the previous topic.

"Is the principal... back?"

"No." El shook his head, looking even more bewildered, with a hint of despair.

"I don't know what happened, and then..."

Saying this, El paused, glancing around, then looked at Ethan.

"You mustn't spill this..."

"Rest assured, I'm part of the school too."

"Here's what happened, today a group claiming to be the Kingdom Defense Bureau came to find the principal, I said the principal wasn't here, they wouldn't listen, they barged in, and after entering the principal's office, they kicked me out, and now I don't know what they're doing inside..."

As they were speaking, there was movement from within the bluestone building, someone Ethan recognized as one of Solomon's men emerged quickly.

He glanced at Ethan, clearly recognizing him, but said nothing, just spoke to El, "Loren Roland has been confirmed to be involved in a major threat to the Kingdom's security, we need to conduct a thorough investigation on him, please lead me to meet the board members, and until our investigation is over, this office is completely sealed, no one is allowed in."

While he spoke, some of his colleagues were already moving things outside; Ethan caught sight of one of them holding a black robe and a pure black mask.

So, the principal was the Black Robe?

"This... yes, please... come this way, officer." El was completely stunned, having originally thought the principal was merely missing, but now it was linked to some significant security event.

Would it even implicate him?

Ethan noticed the agent looking at him, nodded while smiling, and left as well.

So, the principal fled?

That wasn't entirely surprising.

Even Ethan could predict that the Kingdom Defense Bureau would conduct a thorough investigation; the principal could not have been unaware.

But if he were the Black Robe, then, who would the King of Winster be?
