The sea roared like a wounded animal. The sky was black, and the wind looked like it wanted to tear the bone ship apart. Daniel and Kayn were standing on the deck, which was shaking dangerously under their feet.
"What's going on?" Kayn frowned and looked at the sea with a confused expression.
Just a few seconds ago everything had been calm, but suddenly the sea started to boil and tremble, as if it was about to split in two.
Even the sky only had dark clouds and there was no rain, but all of a sudden a terrifying and heavy rain started pouring down.
However, before there was any chance to react or check things properly, the sea truly split open.
At that same moment, the water beneath the ship exploded.
A massive monster burst out from the sea, with a body like a huge dragon, black-purple scales, and a snake-like head filled with thousands of serrated teeth lined up on top of each other. Its yellow eyes shone like two lights in the darkness.
"What is that thing…" Kayn's eyes widened in disbelief and he froze in place. It was the first time in his life he had seen such a terrifying monster.
It was so frightening that his whole body was screaming at him to run.
The monster's aura was destructive and overwhelming, so strong that it covered all of them, as if they were nothing more than ants in front of it.
With the roar of the sea, the ship's crew also rushed toward them. When they saw the monster, they froze as well, filled with shock and fear.
"My god! This monster—"
"How is this monster here? Wasn't it just a legend?"
"The nightmare is real! This monster really exists!"
"Why is it attacking us?!"
Some of them were so terrified that they fell to the ground, unable to believe what they were seeing.
They knew this monster! One of the greatest legends of the seas! A creature said to be the true ruler of the deep ocean.
Daniel and Kayn ignored the crew and kept their eyes on the monster. The way it stared at them made it look ready to attack and swallow the entire ship at any moment.
Veronica, who had heard the noise, also came up to the deck.
"Damn… no… no! This can't be real! This… this is the Devourer of the Tid!" Veronica said as if her blood had frozen. Her eyes were full of disbelief, like she was seeing the most terrifying thing in her entire life.
"You know this monster?" Daniel asked without turning around.
"It's one of the greatest legends of the seas, a monster known for its indescribable power and its ability to devour anything!" Veronica explained in fear.
"But this was only a legend! No one has seen this monster for centuries! Why would it appear now and attack us?" she added with a trembling voice.
Hearing her last words, Daniel frowned slightly and for a moment glanced at Finn on his shoulder. For some reason, Finn was also staring at the monster with hostile eyes, and it almost looked like he was growling.
Even stranger, Daniel felt like the monster was also staring at Finn.
Could it be?
"Captain! We have to get away! We have to—" one of the crew screamed.
However, before he could finish, their nightmare became reality.
The monster attacked and bit into the ship, and the sound of cracking bones filled the sea.
The ship shook violently and half of the deck was thrown into the air. Heavy rain slammed down from the sky. The violent wind tore the ropes apart and ripped the bone-like sails like shredded skin.
"What do we do now! We can't defeat this thing! The ship is breaking apart!" Kayn shouted anxiously while holding onto a piece of wood to stay in place.
Even though he had faced many dangerous situations during his missions, that didn't mean he wanted to die.
Right now, he could truly feel death.
"Hold on tight! The ropes! Keep the ship stable! The waves are going to swallow us!" Veronica shouted orders with a pale face full of shock.
But in the middle of all that chaos…
Daniel did not react at all.
'He really deserves to be a captain. Even though she's scared, she's still trying to keep things under control,' he thought and nodded slightly at Veronica's commands.
"Stay here and wait for me until I come back," he said to Finn, who was sitting on his shoulder.
Finn nodded, flew down, and landed on top of one of the sails.
As if there was no storm, no monster, and no approaching death.
Calmly, Daniel drew out his sword, The Heavens Honor. A death-like light from its aura spread through the air.
Without hesitation, he jumped onto a wave and went straight toward the monster's open jaws.
He raised his sword and struck with all his power. The sound of metal hitting scales was something between stone shattering and iron being split. The monster was pushed back, but not by much. Its massive body twisted again on the water, and its huge tail lashed around like a whip.
"Annoying." Daniel said coldly, without any shake in his voice.
The monster roared and charged at the ship again from the side.
"Hold it back, Daniel! If it hits again, we're going to the bottom of the sea!" Kayn shouted.
"Hold the sails! Pull the rope, no! To the left! To the, damn it! We're capsizing!" Veronica screamed through the storm.
Giant waves lifted and slammed the ship again and again. Half of the crew fell to the ground, while the rest desperately tried to keep the ship upright.
Daniel attacked again, this time with his sword aura. The power of death wrapped around him as his strike landed directly on the monster's neck. Dark blood, like oil, sprayed out of the wound.
But the monster did not retreat. It twisted its body, opened its mouth, and attacked again at terrifying speed, as if nothing had weakened it.
Daniel struck once more and pushed it back several meters, but the wild waves between them made it impossible for him to fully control the situation.
The storm grew even worse. The sky looked like it wanted to swallow the ship.
"This is getting out of control! Someone stabilize the ship—" Veronica shouted desperately.
In the current state, the ship could sink at any moment. The fact that it hadn't yet was a miracle by itself.
The rain poured like a flood and the waves slammed into them relentlessly, and on top of that, the ship was already damaged.
And just when it seemed like things couldn't get any worse—
At that exact moment, a gigantic wave, larger than any they had ever seen, rose up behind them.
At the same time, the monster twisted its tail and struck Daniel hard in the chest.
Daniel was thrown back at incredible speed, exactly as the massive wave crashed down onto the ship with an explosive sound.
The deck split apart. A circle of bones collapsed. The crew's screams were swallowed by the water.
And Daniel, like a bullet, was dragged down toward the dark, endless depths.
The last thing he saw was the monster's tail smashing into the ship once again.
