Daniel clenched his teeth. There was no room left to retreat.
He knew very well that if he didn't decide right now, he wouldn't even have the chance to think.
The presence of that old demon was like an invisible weight pressing down on his soul; a pressure that wasn't mana, and wasn't killing intent, something deeper… something that threatened the core of his existence.
In this situation, hesitation was stupid. His enemy was a Heavenly King, and if he didn't use his trump cards, he literally had no way to get out of here.
"There's no choice…"
He made up his mind.
Self Transcendent.
Even though using this skill meant he would have to pay a heavy price, just like he reasoned earlier—he had no other option. If he didn't use it, he would definitely die here.
But right at that moment, his mind went blank.
There was no physical or spiritual pain, not even a mental attack or anything similar.
Just… emptiness.
Daniel blinked. His heart beat faster. He felt like he had lost something, something vital, something he had been holding onto just a second ago.
He knew he wanted to use a skill.
He knew that skill was his only way to survive.
But its name? Its meaning? Even its feeling?
Nothing remained in his mind.
Confused and stunned, his gaze lifted toward the old demon. Daniel's eyes grew cold, he understood the old demon had definitely done something just now.
But how? How could he erase all memories of a skill? Did he use some special ability? Lock the memories? Or was the difference in power so massive that Daniel couldn't even comprehend what happened?
The old demon's gaze… was playful. Like a child who found an interesting toy.
"Human, thinking too much is not good. If you hesitate even for a moment, the enemy moves first," the old demon said calmly.
"Just now, I felt you had a trump card to escape or even fight back. So… I erased its concept from your mind."
A heavy silence swallowed the space.
"This… is the real power of a Heavenly King."
Daniel's heart dropped.
Not because of the power, because of how simple and cruel it was.
He had fought a being near this level before, but not himself, Fallen Will did.
But that was on the third floor of the Tower. He didn't see this level of power from that enemy back then, or maybe the consciousness that took control of his body was so powerful and experienced that tricks like this didn't work on it.
So what should he do now?
Use Fallen Will?
But the moment he decided to use that skill, all memories of it would be erased again.
"…But there is still something I don't understand. I'm certain I completely destroyed your body. Your return shouldn't be possible," the old demon tilted his head.
"I'm immortal. I never die," Daniel said with a grin.
"True immortality doesn't exist. Everyone dies. The limit just differs for each being." The old demon laughed.
Then the giant demonic hand formed again.
This time slower, heavier, and with a clear intention, testing.
He didn't want to simply kill anymore; he wanted to see how far this "immortality" could go.
Daniel gritted his teeth and summoned his sword. He borrowed the power of the Fallen Ones, moved the laws, and even started burning his own life force.
His body screamed.
His soul trembled.
But he stood his ground.
The giant hand descended and Daniel struck with everything he had.
The blade only managed to make a shallow scratch on the hand.
A moment later, the hand closed. Pressure, then explosion.
Flesh and blood burst in the air.
"How did he come back again?!" the crown prince asked the old demon.
The old demon pulled his hand back and looked at the scratch. For the first time, a faint glimmer of surprise appeared in his eyes.
"I don't know. Probably a special skill or a rare treasure."
"Then how did you know he wasn't actually dead?" the crown prince asked with hesitation.
"When I killed him, his soul and life energy didn't disperse."
At that moment, Daniel reformed again.
But this time his expression was darker, colder, and angrier than before.
Damn it.
He had no way to escape, and worse, his enemy now knew he could return. Meaning he had completely lost the element of surprise.
And the space was fully locked. Even if he wanted to escape, he couldn't use any method to do so.
"Interesting. How many times can you come back to life? Human, tell me your secret. Maybe I'll let you live," the old demon said.
"Let me live? You think I'm stupid? You'll kill me anyway."
"Correct. But I would give you a calmer death. And I won't have to torture you until I figure it out myself."
"That's not something you can do even if you want to," Daniel growled.
"So it's an innate skill. What a waste." The old demon shook his head.
"Now the real question… If I destroy your soul, will you still come back?" His eyes turned cold.
The giant hand reached out again. This time Daniel was truly worried, if his soul was destroyed, everything would be over.
With a choked shout, he activated all his skills, covered his sword with laws and the remnants of his power, and struck again.
A deeper scratch appeared.
An opportunity.
"Finn!"
"Finn?" The old demon and the crown prince frowned.
The locked space suddenly shattered.
Something flying at insane speed shot in, smashed into both of them, and then shot upward.
A blinding light filled the area and disrupted their vision for a moment.
"Go! Right now!" Daniel jumped on.
But a moment later, the old demon appeared again.
"Dragon…?" With one finger, he slammed Finn into the ground.
With the other hand, he crushed Daniel's neck and threw him to the ground.
"I didn't expect such a surprise… but I guess today really is my lucky day," he muttered calmly.
