The Growth of a God

Chapter 12: Mentor of the Gods · Long-Eyed God (Part 1)

What the true name of the Long-Eyed God is, has already become untraceable.

Since he lost his clan and was no longer believed by living beings, he became a Lost God wandering in All Heavens and Myriad Realms.

For faith, for survival...

The Long-Eyed God has stolen Divine Artifacts, traded civilizations, and is regarded by some large Divine Pantheons as an Evil God.

Yet no god denies the strength of the Long-Eyed God, just as no one denies his ancient origins.

The only certainty is that this ancient god has been spreading his totem — the Divine Statue with Vertical Eyes — through All Heavens and Myriad Realms since a long time ago.

In fact, this is a common method among Lost Gods to collect faith.

As for these Foreigners, the local gods often label them as Evil Gods or Demons, strictly prohibiting the creatures in their domain from believing in those of unknown origins.

From the standpoint of the local gods, there is actually nothing wrong with this approach.

After all, Lost Gods will resort to any means necessary to gain faith, essentially no different from real demons.

Recycling?

Sustainable development?

Helping native civilizations progress?

These are never within the consideration of Lost Gods, who focus solely on seizing as much faith as possible in the shortest time.

Moreover, the fact that they have become Lost Gods in itself indicates that they are incompetent and do not know how to maintain faith over time.

Adding these together naturally leads to Lost Gods being among the least welcomed beings in All Heavens and Myriad Realms, second only to Divine Abominations.

However, in this regard, the Long-Eyed God is an exception.

He was born long before, with rich experience in nurturing races and civilizations, and knows how to collect faith properly.

In the case of the Long-Eyed God, situations rarely occur as with other Lost Gods who, for short-term benefits, lead a civilization or a race completely astray.

Were it not for the Long-Eyed God's persistent refusal to join a Divine Pantheon, he would not merely be a wandering Lost God.

As for the reason the Long-Eyed God refuses to join a Divine Pantheon?

Some rumors say it's because he originated from a once-glorious Divine Pantheon, and after its collapse, he didn't want to join another.

Other rumors suggest it's because the Long-Eyed God has lived too long and is already on the verge of falling into the Fallen Area.

Under such circumstances, no Divine Pantheon would dare take in this ancient god on the brink of demise.

Of course, if it were only for this reason, the Long-Eyed God wouldn't be that famous.

Similar ancient gods in All Heavens and Myriad Realms number not merely a hundred but at least dozens, and the Long-Eyed God is not particularly outstanding among them.

What truly made the Long-Eyed God renowned is his unique technique for creating totems.

Generally speaking, gods often create divine statues or totems to accept and transfer the faith from myriad beings.

But the problem is, creating divine statues and totems in itself consumes a lot of Divine Power and faith.

Even the Main Gods of large Divine Pantheons wouldn't be extravagant enough to mass-produce their totem Divine Statues.

Yet, in the case of the Long-Eyed God, who has already lost his faith, numerous totems are spread throughout All Heavens and Myriad Realms.

The key is that these totems from the Long-Eyed God are different from the usual ones.

They can act independently of gods and rarely cause large-scale civilization disasters simply for gathering faith.

In the worlds of some nascent gods, the Long-Eyed God's totems even serve as "Guides" to some extent, teaching them how to nurture proper faith.

.........................................................

"Mentor of the Gods?"

He opened his mouth in some surprise.

Li Hao never imagined that there would be such a complex reasoning behind this bronze mask.

Especially the existence of the Long-Eyed God, it simply refreshed his understanding of the gods.

"No wonder I couldn't find any information about him in the various boards of the 'Civilization Game'."

"The existence of the Long-Eyed God, I'm afraid, is a secret among the gods, isn't it?"

Upon hearing Li Hao's musings, the Faceless nodded with his usual smile.

"That's right, the Long-Eyed God can indeed be called the 'Mentor of the Gods'."

"Quite a number of gods in the early stages were guided and favored by him."

After a slight pause, the Faceless continued.

"So, you need not worry about the Long-Eyed God's totems bringing you any unnecessary trouble."

"To my knowledge, the Long-Eyed God won't even reclaim the Power of Faith from the totems."

Upon hearing this, Li Hao suddenly understood.

Because he found that the purpose of the Long-Eyed God in releasing totems was actually somewhat similar to his own.

Both are exploring worlds beyond their cognition, exploring the infinite possibilities of All Heavens and Myriad Realms.

In comparison, trivial faith and divine power are simply not worth caring about.

"You just said, the Long-Eyed God is a contradictory fellow, did he do something else unconventional?"

Releasing totems into other gods' territories is certainly unconventional.

But from Li Hao's perspective, it doesn't warrant the "contradictory" evaluation from the Faceless.

"You are correct; for ordinary gods, the Long-Eyed God is indeed a qualified mentor."

"However, for ancient gods who have existed since time immemorial, the Long-Eyed God's actions resemble a form of probing."

"Although it's unknown what the Long-Eyed God is probing, quite a number of Main Gods, even the Supreme God, have shown apparent aversion and resistance to such actions."

"Especially, considering the Long-Eyed God has a precedent of inciting a 'Gods' Calamity', no god dares to be careless."

The Faceless sighed with deep emotion after saying this.

"The world is indeed too vast; even the Supreme God faces moments of powerlessness."

Hearing the Faceless's sentiment, although not bearing much hope, Li Hao couldn't help but ask.

"So if I want to find this Long-Eyed God, do you have any methods?"

The sentiment on his face instantly transformed into a profound smile.

The Faceless didn't answer Li Hao's question immediately but instead responded expectantly.

"Do you really want to find the Long-Eyed God?"

Li Hao nodded decisively, not hiding his interest and intention.

"If you indeed have this intention, I could apply to my master to use a certain Divine Artifact to help you locate the source of this totem."

"However, you must reach an agreement with my master under the witness of the 'Balance of Truth'."

As if fearing Li Hao might misunderstand his intentions, the Faceless immediately added after saying this.

"Rest assured, my master has no intention of competing with you for any spoils."

"My master merely wishes to uncover the secrets and truths that have long been buried in the river of history."
