"Are you still in the car?" Yang Qi asked, "Where did you go?"
"I went to take a look at the construction site."
"Construction site? The comprehensive talent training base that's being built?" Yang Qi immediately caught on.
"Yeah, considering it's a future workplace, I thought I'd better check it out first," Sun Hang said.
"As soon as you're done, come back quickly. The girl has been waiting for you for a while," Yang Qi's tone sounded somewhat peculiar, "She wouldn't cook without you, saying the noodles would clump if they sat for too long and wouldn't taste good."
"I'll be there in twenty minutes." After Sun Hang said that, he floored the gas pedal as usual.
With the help of "bullet time," no matter how fast the car was going, in his eyes, it seemed as slow as a snail... He even considered learning how to fly a plane, but after finding out that pilots need to study a dozen or so thick, brick-like books on basic theory before officially taking control, Sun Hang decided to give up.
"Drive safely... you seem to be driving too fast," Yang Qi frowned slightly on the other end of the video call.
"It's just 190 km/h," Sun Hang glanced at the speedometer and said indifferently.
"Just?!" Yang Qi's voice rose an octave, "You're still in the city! Even on elevated roads, the maximum speed limit is 80... I admit I drive quite wildly, or else I wouldn't have driven this car to this point... but you... you..."
Yang Qi took a moment to calm her tone: "No need to rush so much... it's not like we're not waiting for you, drive slowly, there are still cars on the road once out of the enclosed lane, don't make me go down to the transport department to bail you out..."
"Why do you sound more and more like a nagging mom?" Sun Hang went for the kill with one sentence.
"Just die on the road then!" In a fit of anger, Yang Qi hung up.
...
When Sun Hang opened the door to his home, he found that Yang Qi wasn't the only one visiting for a meal—Zhong Ling was busy in the kitchen wearing an apron, while Yang Qi was flustered trying to assist her, and on the sofa in the living room sat Yang Lian and Ye Xuan, quietly discussing something over the tablet.
"Oh, you made it back alive," Yang Qi glanced at Sun Hang as he walked through the entrance, saying sarcastically.
"Hehe." Sun Hang laughed, handing the car key back to Yang Qi, "The gas is almost out, needs a refill."
"Fill it up yourself." Yang Qi tossed the keys back to Sun Hang, "You have higher clearance than me, just tell the logistics department at the institute, they'll even fill aviation fuel for you."
"If I say I want to fly a plane, could they get me one?" Sun Hang's eyes lit up, rekindling his abandoned idea.
"Don't even think about it," Yang Qi retorted, "If you want to fly a plane, you'd better first learn how to repair one, or what would you do if something went wrong at tens of thousands of meters altitude?"
"Just parachute out," Sun Hang answered immediately, "I won't die from the fall anyway."
"And what about the plane? Would you abandon it over a minor issue too?"
"Can you fix a plane?" Sun Hang suddenly gave Yang Qi a once-over.
"What are you up to?" Yang Qi felt an ominous premonition.
"With my authority, getting you a pilot license and having you as my co-pilot should be no problem, right?" Sun Hang grinned mischievously.
"You..." Yang Qi gritted her teeth, "Suit yourself!"
"We'll talk about it when we have time later." Sun Hang walked through the kitchen into the living room, sat down on a single sofa chair and picked up a fruit from the platter that looked expensive but he couldn't name, took a bite, then leaned over next to Ye Xuan and Yang Lian, "What are you guys looking at that's so engrossing?"
"Mr. Deng is dead," Yang Lian looked up at Sun Hang and slightly turned the tablet screen towards him.
The screen was showing internal news from the Dubhe Tower, with several Sheriff's officers and Dubhe Tower field agents walking back and forth in a laboratory, and multiple dried bloodstains marked on the lab floor, with the outlines drawn in white chalk—vaguely indicating that there were two victims on the scene: one by the lab bench and another slumped against a corner, with a trail of bloody footprints between them.
"Mr. Deng? Which Mr. Deng?" Sun Hang was momentarily surprised.
"The one who led the team to successfully develop 'Li Fire', Mr. Deng Yi. An important member of the 'reform group' keen on expelling you Hunters," Yang Lian explained, "I showed you the livestream of her conference during the celebration party."
"Who did it?" Sun Hang leaned in closer, catching a faint scent of shampoo from Yang Lian's hair, "It couldn't have been those Hunters who hate the reform group, could it?"
Ye Xuan glanced at Sun Hang, who seemed to wish trouble on the world, and shook her head: "Preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Deng committed suicide, but there was another murder case too, the victim was the second-in-command of Mr. Deng's team... as for the killer, based on current evidence, it appears to have been Mr. Deng."
"Not appears... it was Deng Yi." Yang Qi chimed in, "The surveillance captured the two arguing, then Mr. Deng drew a gun and fired multiple shots at the other person before walking to the corner and shooting herself."
"Was this an internal conflict? First shot the partner, then committed suicide out of guilt?" Sun Hang was even more puzzled... logically, the second-in-command was likely also 'reform group' member, why would there be infighting among them?
