Chapter 144: Arboreal Civilization

The entire sub-dragon village had been turned into ruins.

When the juvenile dragon landed, it saw a large number of corpses, but the dark elves had taken their own bodies away, leaving hardly any useful weapons or equipment behind.

The conquest wars of the Dark Elf Empire abroad were somewhat like Duncan's campaigns against the Barbarian Race, whether against the Celtic barbarians or the Germanic barbarians, they were all losing trades that hardly yielded enough profit, leaving only a pile of barren land.

However, the dark elves were much more ruthless, directly implementing a scorched earth policy: kill all, burn all, loot all. The sub-dragons that didn't resist were captured as slaves, while all who dared resist were slaughtered.

"Damn it. Even the herb baskets were taken!"

The juvenile dragon landed at the sub-dragon priest's mud hut, which was well-suited to the swamp's moist, dark environment. The hut was built with mud bricks, then covered in a layer of clay, representing a standard sub-dragon mud dwelling. The priest's house had already been ransacked, with nothing of worth left behind, just a few baskets with some odds and ends outside, the valuable ones taken away in whole baskets.

— Swamp Mushrooms, Death Knell, Earth Roots.

Dragons possibly have an innate treasure-seeking ability, as it even found a few herbs under an overturned wooden shelf. One of the sub-dragon tribe's greatest wealth was herbs, possessing many rare alchemical materials and could concoct deadly poisons to paralyze enemies.

"This is the most extreme form of war-sustaining war!?"

Duncan fell into deep thought, quietly pondering, "If the Dark Elf Empire treats all their conquered territories this way, wouldn't other races hate them immensely?"

The Britain Kingdom's expansion was much gentler. If Duncan adopted such measures, war could still bring some gains. However, the future would be uncertain.

Everything had truly been looted here.

When the Dark Elf army withdrew, they had also taken away many sub-dragon slaves.

"However, such plundering indeed allows for sustainable expansion. Even if what's conquered is barren land, they can forcibly sustain it through war."

Duncan's eyes slightly narrowed. What he witnessed today made him realize he wasn't the only one under threat from the dark elves.

Even if they couldn't unite, other races could still cause the dark elves significant trouble, delaying their invasion of the Northern Land.

All around the juvenile dragon were the corpses of sub-dragons, with the severed heads of dozens of sub-dragon warriors mounted on stakes, circling the burning Heister Divine Tree, seemingly to intimidate the rebels.

A leader unit bearing a grey skull mark had thus perished.

The Dark Elf Empire was too powerful.

The dragon pushed aside the heads before it and slowly approached the charred Heister Divine Tree.

There were still several lizard eggs below.

Some had been roasted by the fire, and Duncan peeled the eggshells away, revealing humanoid outlines that differed from sub-dragons, resembling an intermediary life form between sub-dragons and lizard species.

There were still a dozen lizard eggs beneath the tree roots.

— Sub-dragon Eggs (hatching interrupted).

The juvenile dragon carefully used its claws to dig them out, closely inspecting and sniffing them, clearly able to sense the bloodline aura of the lizard species.

At this moment, a drop of thick juice fell onto the dragon claw from beneath the tree root.

— Heister Tree Juice (Mythical Marvel).

Huh?

There's still more?

The juvenile dragon took a nearby clay bowl, slashed open the tree root with its sharp claw, and soon droplets of thick tree juice began to drip.

— "Heister Tree Juice (Mythical Marvel): Creatures who consume the divine tree's juice will establish a spiritual link with the Heister Tree, and a very few will gain acceptance from sub-dragon society, able to integrate into their community.

It also serves as the milk for juvenile sub-dragons, further evolving their bodies, as sub-dragons are the offspring of the roots.

Characteristics: Poisonous, Hallucinogenic, Prophetic, Spiritual Link, Genetic Evolution (for sub-dragons), Alchemical Material, etc."

A small bowl of Heister Juice was collected.

To sub-dragons, this tree juice is also toxic, with a very strong hallucinogenic effect, yet they believe it acts as a part of communicating with the divine tree. Other races face possible poisoning if directly consumed. It is extremely rare outside and even dark elves must use it cautiously, often to assist in various prophetic ceremonies.

However, the dragon's resistance to toxins is very strong.

Duncan had the juvenile dragon lick its paw, and soon the projection page blurred as if intoxicated, gradually fuzzing out.

In past gaming experiences, when a game character drank too much, the screen would blur under intoxication. Now Duncan found himself in a similar situation; the display was a bit muddled, though it wasn't too impactful, yet he could faintly hear whispering voices.

Although he was controlling from a god's perspective, Duncan's consciousness maintained a five-sensory link as streams of whispering echoes continuously surged into his mind.

"Dragon?"

The contour of a large tree appeared, its soul turning toward the north.

"It's not a dragon of this world!... It's an alien dragon!..."

Within the pitch-black venomous swamp, an ice-blue bud bloomed on a giant tree, looking towards the Northern Land, exchanging with other Heister Trees.

"It has forelimbs, is it a hybrid dragon?"

Tree shadows emerged in the juvenile dragon's hallucination, their numbers plenty, spread across the depths of the swamp.

The projection page was gradually becoming clear.

The hallucination faded away.

The juvenile dragon's resistance was too strong; this amount of tree juice could barely effect it for long. In the last hallucination, a Heister Divine Tree blooming with ice-blue flowers said, "Drink a bit more!... It won't harm you!..."

"Drink it, and you will be able to communicate with us spiritually..."

The projection page returned to normal.

The juvenile dragon shook its head, its ice-blue vertical pupils gradually regaining clarity as if escaping the influence of hallucination and toxin.

Duncan pondered at the projection page for a long time before finally having the juvenile dragon take a small sip.

The image blurred once more.

But this time, a series of characters flashed under the god's perspective.

"Dimension life detected!"

"Target identified as 'plant life' 'collective consciousness' 'symbiotic cluster form'!"

"Recording data!... Marking target!..."

In an instant.

It was as if each signal tower was lit up, Duncan's spiritual link far surpassing those of other Sub-dragons. He saw the Heister Divine Trees scattered in the Black Swamp, and the Sub-dragon tribes built around them. They spread across the entire swamp, sharing a massive consciousness and memory body.

For millennia, Sub-dragons have continued their race in symbiosis, rarely leaving the swamp, unlike other races that like to expand.

At this moment, it was as if the heavens and earth were being propped open!

Duncan couldn't tell if it was an illusion or reality, but he saw in the projection page a magnificent Heister Divine Tree, composed of other Heister Trees, its roots plunging into the earth's core, even passing through the magma layer, entwined around huge skeletons.

"Mark the Earth Bone's veins!"

"Mark the Heister Divine Tree cluster consciousness!"

"Discovered unknown civilization evolution path!... Recording data!..."

"Dimension Space entering[Observer]state!"

In an instant.

Not only the projection page, but behind Duncan, the vast feather-shaped nebula also began to spin, countless stars illuminating, gathering in the empty cosmic void, finally forming a tree-like nebula structure.

"Mark complete!..."

"Dimension Observer recording new data!... Archive marked[Tree-shaped civilization form]!..."

"Exiting observer state."

"Access granted."

"Unlock 'Sub-creation Technique'."

Dimension Space.

In the void, as Duncan's consciousness landed on the vast tree-shaped nebula, the originally empty two projection screens suddenly manifested a light screen.

——"Tree-shaped civilization form[Observer Archive]: Sub-dragons and Heister Trees have formed a unique symbiotic state. Their genes are modified by higher-level tree life. This is a social form and civilization ideology different from conventional humanoid races."

(Mark complete.)

(Dimension Space initiating data parsing for creators and creation gods from different worlds!)

(Civilization form recorded by the observer is included in the Dimension Space archive.)

(Partially unlocking observer privileges.)

(Marked civilization: Level 1 tree-shaped civilization.)

Consciousness returns.

Duncan suddenly felt his body within the Dimension Space, but it was not composed of flesh and blood, rather a pure energy body.

With a slight movement of his mind, a phone appeared in his palm out of nowhere.

But there was no signal.

It was just an empty shell of a phone, like a model, even the screen couldn't be lit up.

For the first time, Duncan felt the mana pool of the main body, yet there was no projection page display, nor any data; it was like two pools, one from the No.1 Human Form, and one from the No.2 Human Form.

A slight movement of thought.

A modern leather sofa appeared, quickly draining a significant amount of mana from the pool.

Duncan focused his attention on the projection page.

The next second.

He spread his hands towards the void of Dimension Space, saying: "The Creator said, let there be light!"

Light shed over the void.

A sun.

Or rather, a star, shining among countless bright stars, immediately illuminating the boundaries of the void, light spilling into the Dimension Space.

In an instant, the mana pool was completely drained.

That sun-like reality also dimmed into a backdrop, finally resembling a solar-powered light bulb hanging in the void.

The light came.

But not the kind of light he imagined.

Duncan felt the slowly recovering mana pool, snapped his fingers, and the magically created sofa moved behind him. When he sat down, a cup of hot tea appeared in his hand, tasting exactly like a memory from his previous life.

Everything was too monotonous in the Dimension Space, but unfortunately, his current abilities couldn't frequently create things.

He used to just be a spirit body hanging here.

Now, however, there's a bit of a master feeling; Duncan prepared to slowly create a room.

"Dimension Observer, eh?"

Sitting on a luxurious leather sofa, chin resting in thought, Duncan eventually turned his gaze back to the projection page in front of him.

With a slight hook and swipe of his fingertips,

the left and right projection pages were arranged in front of him. The No. 1 Human Form's projection page remained in entrusted state, while the No. 2 Human Form's projection page, after the initial blurry illusion disappeared, revealed a 'Spiritual Link' mark.

——"Spiritual Link: You have fully digested the power of the Heister Juice. You can now, under certain circumstances, use psychic power to attempt communication with the oldest tree-shaped intelligent life."

In the body of the Juvenile Dragon appeared a faint, eye-invisible glow.

That was psychic energy.

At this moment, it was like a signal tower, its glow far weaker than the other Heister Trees, but fortunately, it could move freely.

The brief contact, the ancient tree-shaped civilization structure temporarily accepted this observer.
