Abyss Sequence

Chapter 4: Culture Wars

"Yan Luo, don't you think what you're doing... isn't quite right?"

The Lord decided to introduce other Elf Cities to Yan Luo and his team, intending to purchase goods according to the method outlined by Yan Luo.

Currently, three trucks are parked on a vacant lot near the Lord's Mansion, and the elves are unloading goods from them.

Thus, Yan Luo and the three drivers can take a break and relax.

Sipping on the alcoholic drinks provided by the elves, one driver looked at Yan Luo with some difficulty and said, "After all, according to what you said, over there we want to destroy elf culture and implant our human culture into theirs, making them vassals of our culture. Isn't what you're doing going against this approach?"

The three drivers are directly affiliated with the Pension Association, and naturally they are aligned with its interests.

Having understood Yan Luo and the Lord's conversation through a translation plugin, they expressed some dissatisfaction with Yan Luo's act of undermining the Pension Association's plan.

"Short-sighted," Yan Luo replied calmly.

The three drivers were taken aback, staring at each other.

"Why do you say that?"

Yan Luo glanced at the elves using magic to unload nearby, and snorted coldly: "Those guys only see the benefits but not the risks. Are their fists bigger than the elves'? The premise of cultural invasion is strong own strength; what are they really? How many unconventional weapons do they have?

"If the Elf Race's rituals collapse, will their hearts turn to humans? I think they are more likely to rebuild their culture to adapt to the times. The current elf culture will certainly be eradicated and become more aggressive, and when that time comes, it will be us who suffer."

After hearing Yan Luo's analysis, the three drivers were speechless.

What they didn't know was that when Wu Zechuan demonstrated his eight engravings, the Lord and Master Magnus were only slightly surprised, not overly shocked.

In their eyes, a Second Rank expert is not considered truly powerful.

Considering that Blue Star had been cut off from the Abyss for over eight thousand years, and during those years, the elves had coexisted with the Abyss, living long lifespans of hundreds or even thousands of years was no problem.

No one knows how many elves have reached Sequence One levels of strength.

There might even be stronger experts at higher levels.

After Liu Feiyu returned from the Elf World, he presumably informed the Pension Association of what he observed, making them aware that elves might fear the 'Saint', thus planning to exploit the Saint's reputation and elven disposition to culturally infiltrate them.

Yan Luo has no negative view on the matter of 'cultural invasion', fully supportive of it against elves, but the Pension Association's means are too base, potentially provoking a fierce elven resistance, which is why he helped the Lord of Gass City devise a breakthrough method.

Because this proposal was made proactively by him, it doesn't count as a breach of contract by the Lord of Gass City.

It took about half a day for Gass City's elves to unload their share of the goods from the trucks and return the remaining ones to Yan Luo and his team.

To Yan Luo's surprise, Julia appeared before him once again.

"Next, I will take you to other Elf Cities," Julia said, looking at Yan Luo.

Yan Luo felt puzzled, "Why you?"

Julia smiled with pursed lips, "Because my father is an 'Intercity Messenger', responsible for delivering messages between cities. When I was young, I accompanied him several times to nearby cities, and he wants me to take over his position. It's just that my current strength isn't enough to become an Intercity Messenger, so I remain with the Lingge Corps."

The Elf World and Blue Star bear some similarities. No, rather, Blue Star is similar to the current Elf World.

The wilderness of the Elf World is the 'Abyss', wandering with countless demons, thus cutting off virtually all interaction between cities.

Each city is an independent city-state, with the Lord as the highest authority here.

Blue Star, at least, has networks linking various settlements, preventing the same predicament faced by the elves.

Yan Luo nodded, "Alright, let's depart now."

"Eh? Now?" Julia was taken aback.

The elves' concept of time differs from humans, and Yan Luo is among the humans who act most rapidly, making his sense of time vastly different from Julia's.

"Do you have anything else to do?" Yan Luo asked.

Julia thought for a moment, "Pack some luggage, gather some supplies..."

Yan Luo interrupted her, "Can you gather here by noon tomorrow?"

Julia was silent for a few seconds, finally nodding, "I can."

Yan Luo decided, "Then tomorrow noon, we'll be waiting here for you."

After letting Julia handle her matters, Yan Luo took the three drivers to find the Lord's Mansion, hoping they could arrange accommodations.

Since it was already evening, the Lord's Mansion quickly arranged accommodations for Yan Luo and his team, about three hundred meters away.

After dinner, Yan Luo immediately went to rest.

The three drivers looked out the window at the dual moons, and couldn't help but marvel.

They truly arrived in another world, such a spectacle couldn't be seen on Blue Star.

Unfortunately, their superiors don't allow them to take photos as souvenirs in the Elf World, to prevent accidentally spreading the existence of this world.

They can earn a lot in this world, but if its existence were prematurely spread, their income as well as that of their brothers and sisters in the whole industry chain would be affected.

Though regrettable, the three drivers held back, quickly hypnotizing themselves to sleep.

The next morning, Yan Luo and his team had no tasks, so they exercised outside their residence.

The result drew many elves to watch.

Looking at the handsome and beautiful elves, the three drivers couldn't help but click their tongues in amazement.

The elves surrounded Yan Luo and his team, asking about the human world one after another.

But Yan Luo replied with a 'no comment' to each question, shutting them down.

"It's not fair! You can know what our world is like, but we can't know what's yours!" an elf angrily exclaimed.

Yan Luo glanced at him and said, "Through the goods we sell, you can discover a lot of information about the human world and understand our potential culture. I don't tell you what the human world is like, partly for confidentiality, but mostly to use your curiosity to drive sales."

Upon hearing this, the elves present were stunned.

Even elves don't typically express their true intentions so directly.

While they're truthful, they usually present their thoughts tactfully; someone like Yan Luo speaking candidly about what's in their hearts is rare.

"Humans are truly evil! Do you want to use this method to increase our likability towards you?"

Among the surrounding elves, such a voice emerged.

Yan Luo looked over and said, "I remember you; yesterday when we entered the city, you stood by the roadside urging other elves not to buy our goods because you thought it would lead to human culture invading yours."

The elf pointed out by Yan Luo stood tall and voiced loudly, "That's right! That's exactly what I think!"

Yan Luo nodded, "Yes, you are correct, accepting our goods will indeed lead to cultural invasion from us. But this is a transaction, as you buy our goods, we get yours, both cultures infiltrating each other. It's a cultural struggle to see which is superior. If the elves' culture is more advanced, we will bow before it, but if ours is superior, yours will shift towards ours.

"You did notice the elves' crisis, but have you considered, based on what I just said, why do you think elf culture will be distorted by human culture?"

The elf was left speechless, his lips moved but no words came out.

Why...

Could it be that human culture is more advanced? Is elf culture really inferior to human culture?

Yan Luo glanced at the time and said, "It's about time, we need to head to the next city. Everyone, clear the way, we're leaving."

To reiterate, he never thought cultural invasion was wrong, he just opposed the Pension Association's approach.

If given the chance, he would once again export values to elves, like this time.
