Abyss Sequence

Chapter 14: Li Jiongming

The Lord of Pirie City considered this a war.

If they continued trading with humans, many elves would come into contact with advanced human goods and would be unable to return to their past ways.

However, human products were indeed convenient, bringing many conveniences to the elves.

Take the magic power meter, for instance. With this machine, they could abandon the vague calculations of the past and know exactly how much magic power they possessed within their bodies.

According to Yan Luo, humans also have a device called a 'terminal' that integrates the functions of all machines. No matter what machine it is, one can access it directly through the terminal without complicated operations.

The Lord of Pirie City couldn't imagine how convenient human society had become. He only knew that even without a personal terminal to integrate these machines, they could still have a revolutionary impact on the elves.

Undoubtedly, these machines were initially designed for the convenience of human use and activity. With these machines, humans could live more safely and healthily.

If the elves refused to trade with humans, they would always lag behind.

Recalling the list of goods, the Lord of Pirie City suddenly remembered something and returned to Yan Luo to inquire, "Most of the machines you use require energy called 'electricity.' Although you've equipped corresponding charging devices, those cannot meet the demand of so many electric machines—did you and Gass City make some additional deals?"

The Lord of Pirie City had read the introduction letter from the Lord of Gass City, which stated that Gass City couldn't purchase all the goods brought by humans, so they went to other cities to sell.

That is to say, from the beginning, humans intended to sell all their goods in Gass City.

Among them, the mismatch between the number of electric machines and power supply devices was significant. The Lord of Pirie City sensed something from this, realizing that humans and Gass City might have made other deals.

Yan Luo didn't expect the Lord of Pirie City to guess this matter, so he revealed the transaction conditions Liu Feiyu had with the Lord of Gass City.

Humans actually allowed Gass City to have a power supply system?

The Lord of Pirie City immediately asked, "Then, can Pirie City also purchase a copy of your power supply system?"

Although Pirie City had its own magic power energy system, the Lord thought adding a power supply system would be even better.

Yan Luo responded quickly, "I can't decide on this matter. I need to consult with others."

Pirie City differed from Gass City in that the elves of Gass City, even after installing the power supply system, wouldn't delve into it because they didn't have that technology.

But Pirie City was different. The elves in this city were originally founded on technology, and there's a possibility they might truly figure out the principles of the power supply system.

"Alright," the Lord of Pirie City said helplessly.

On the surface, he prepared to wait for the answer Yan Luo would bring back from the human world, but secretly, he was already ready to send artisans to Gass City.

They didn't have to stubbornly stick to one goal. As an artisan, the Lord of Pirie City's thinking wasn't that rigid.

Since Gass City had a power supply system, they could very well dispatch a few artisans to Gass City to conduct some research there.

Humans would surely create some encrypted components for the power supply system to prevent their machines from being dismantled.

But that didn't matter. If they couldn't dismantle it, the artisans they sent only needed to understand the principles of the power supply system. It wasn't impossible for the elves to create their own energy system.

This invisible war between humans and elves had to be fought, even if, in the beginning, the elven side might collapse, human goods would flood in, and the elves would be exploited for their labor by humans.

But over time, their technology would also develop.

Any advancement in the manufacturing technology of the elves would be a good thing!

The current elven society was like a stagnant pool of water, unable to be reawakened no matter what they did.

Now that humans were involved, perhaps it could spur a new round of development for elven society.

Thinking of this, the Lord of Pirie City had the employees of the Lord's Mansion count the materials they used for trading with humans and handed them directly to Yan Luo and his team.

Elves had a very different sense of time from humans, but their action capacity was not low. The employees who received the order immediately sprang into action.

Yan Luo felt that the Lord of Pirie City seemed to have made some kind of resolution and looked deeply at him.

The Lord of Pirie City noticed Yan Luo's gaze, turned his head to look at him, and smiled.

......

"What? You're planning to bring the professor into our team?"

Sasa was startled upon hearing Wu Zechuan's idea.

She had never thought of bringing Li Jiongming into their team, as there was nothing in their team that could attract him.

Sasa pondered for a moment and said to Wu Zechuan, "To be frank, I can't even guarantee that the professor isn't one of the Abyssal Believers."

The Abyssal Believers were embedded in various fields, seldom being revealed.

Their team was currently weak. Although some cards were publicly shown to confront the Abyssal Believers, the latter were unsure of their actual strength and dared not attack them easily.

If the Abyssal Believers learned of their real strength, they might directly launch an attack against them.

They had to be cautious even when dealing with the She Family, let alone facing the entirety of the Abyssal Believers.

[Regarding this matter, I can vouch for Professor Li. He is definitely not one of the Abyssal Believers.]

Upon hearing this, Sasa's expression became somewhat strange.

She was Li Jiongming's student, yet she couldn't determine if he was an Abyssal Believer, and Wu Zechuan, an outsider, dared to say he could vouch for him?

Who really was Professor Li's student?

Probably sensing Sasa's confusion, Wu Zechuan explained, [Someone in the Pension Association knows the higher-ups at Lingquan University, and they can assure that Lingquan University is 'clean,' free from the pollution of the Abyssal Believers. However, this might not be the case for other universities; the deeper the capital involvement, the closer they are to the Abyssal Believers. Since they find it hard to insert themselves into the United Government, they resort to using capital to manipulate the world, so Lingquan University, mainly funded by the Lingquan City Government, fares better, whereas universities relying more on capital are more seriously polluted by the Abyssal Believers.]

[It is said that quite a few fraternities and sororities at universities are indeed subordinate organizations of the Abyssal Believers, deeply infiltrating Blue Star Society. This is also why the United Government has been unable to decisively wage war against them.]

The United Government did not have an actual entity structure; it was a parliament constituted by numerous cities.

There were various voices within the parliament, with the leading ideologies of different factions as different as humans and dogs.

Undoubtedly, there were spies for the Abyssal Believers among the United Government's high ranks, and some lawmakers might even be Abyssal Believers. However, this couldn't prevent the United Government's main body from maintaining a strong aversion to the 'Abyssal Believers' group.

After listening, Sasa said, "Since you know the higher-ups at Lingquan University, why do you need me to talk to the professor?"

[Because you are Professor Li's student, and having you speak can perfectly explain the recent occurrences affecting you.] Wu Zechuan explained.

Indeed, Wu Zechuan's explanation hit Sasa's soft spot.

After considering it for a moment, Sasa hung up the call, reached out to Li Jiongming, and then left her dormitory to find him.

It was evening, the time for dinner.

Sasa arrived at Li Jiongming's dormitory, where the elderly man was enjoying his meal in small bites.

Most of the table was empty, with only the food in front of Li Jiongming—a bowl of rice and two side dishes.

One plate of pork, and one plate of greens.

"There's not much food on the table, so I won't invite you to sit and eat with me," Li Jiongming said.

Raising his eyelids, he looked at Sasa, "What's the matter?"

Sasa carefully considered her words, then cautiously asked, "Professor, did you know about the 'Abyssal Believers' before Wu Zechuan exposed their existence? And do you know that Yan Luo and I are dealing with the Abyssal Believers?"

Li Jiongming quietly put down his utensils and looked at Sasa calmly.

Sasa remained motionless, silently enduring Li Jiongming's scrutiny.

"Yan Luo, he must be the 'Saint,' right?"

Li Jiongming's words shattered Sasa's psychological defenses, leaving her speechless in shock.

The professor... knew what a 'Saint' was?!
