Chapter 245: Besieging the Blood Qilin

After the two temporary troops set up camp, Li Jinting summoned Xiu Haofeng and Ji Nanhong to formally inform them of the situation with the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin.

The Mutated Demon Blood Qilin is a Secret Spirit living alone in the back mountains of Qilin Mountain. Previously, Lin Yushen had sent people to probe the strength of the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin.

Undoubtedly, it is a top-tier Third Awakening World-Defying Secret Spirit, extremely powerful in every aspect among the Third Awakening cultivators.

Whichever of the two legions is able to behead the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin will become the new master of the entire Qilin Mountain Range.

With a two-day limit, if neither team manages to take down the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin after two days, they can forget about the new corps; the Corps Commander of the new troop will be selected from the three Third Awakening Deputy Commanders.

The Celestial Court Army allows for low-level superiors, but they cannot tolerate any ineffective commanders.

Even with the backgrounds of Ji Nanhong and Xiu Haofeng, they still need to prove their abilities to earn their positions.

In two days, regardless of the means employed, they must capture the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin.

Leng Zhe, after reading the detailed information on the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin brought back by Ji Nanhong, said the first thing: "We must cooperate with the Red Cavalry."

"No chance?" Ji Nanhong frowned.

"The Mutated Demon Blood Qilin is a top-tier Third Awakening Secret Spirit, its capabilities are far more terrifying than we initially expected. There's no way our team alone can capture the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin. The people testing us with this task never intended for any single team to complete the beheading mission," Leng Zhe said.

Almost at the same time, Shi Zhimen, after reading the information, also suggested to Xiu Haofeng the same cooperation.

"No other way?" Xiu Haofeng asked the same question.

"No chance, relying solely on our one team, we cannot capture the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin. Not only are our forces comprised of Second Awakening cultivators, even with a team of Third Awakening cultivators, if we don't have enough numbers or top-tier Third Awakening experts aiding us, it's impossible to take down the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin. Its abilities simply cannot be matched by Second Awakening cultivators," Shi Zhimen affirmed.

Ji Nanhong and Xiu Haofeng made the same choice, and the two sides instantly reached a mutual agreement.

The core members of the Black Cavalry and Red Cavalry sat together to discuss how to cooperate, handle tactics, and allocate personnel.

Ultimately, they agreed on letting Leng Zhe oversee and coordinate the two teams.

Although most considered Shi Zhimen to have slightly superior capability, Leng Zhe was not lacking.

Mainly because Ji Nanhong trusted Leng Zhe, and Xiu Haofeng knew that Leng Zhe merely wanted to prove himself and would not truly oppose the Xiu Family, so he felt at ease.

The two teams would join forces to take down the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin, then aim to determine the final ownership through a battle array.

In the next day's time, the teams did not rush to set out but researched various strategies and conducted integration training of the two teams to prepare for capturing the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin in the final day's time.

"They've passed the first level of the test, it seems one will necessarily become our superior," Zhang Yujian sighed after learning the news.

If the two teams did not cooperate, they certainly wouldn't capture the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin, offering him a chance to vie for the position of Corps Commander for the new troop.

Bai Yueguang and Zhu Hongzhi also felt very disappointed upon hearing the news, having harbored a sliver of hope, which now seemed dashed.

Early on the second day, the combined forces of the Black Cavalry and Red Cavalry marched toward the back mountains forming a battle array in front of the Qilin Cave.

"It has begun," Li Jinting observed with three Deputy Commanders and key seniors from a high vantage on the back mountain.

This was a test for Ji Nanhong and Xiu Haofeng, albeit with limitations preventing exorbitant loss, and if situations spiraled out of control, they would personally act to slaughter the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin.

Should that occur, Ji Nanhong and Xiu Haofeng would be eliminated.

"The battle array looks quite decent," Lin Yushen smiled.

"For a temporary new army troop, it's been satisfactory," Zhu Hongzhi remarked flatly.

Bai Yueguang kept silent, lips pursed, coming from the Celestial Court Guard Army, distinct from the external troops; naturally feeling superior having inherited the ancestral court guardian duties.

Zhang Yujian also had no remarks as he found the battle array commendable, training a motley crew to this extent within a mere month was genuinely impressive.

With the pet tasked to lure the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin rushing into the cave, everyone held their breath.

Roar!

A thunderous qilin roar echoed through the surroundings, soon revealing a giant qilin beast, blood red and as large as a mammoth, emerging from the cave.

Chen Guan took a glance and noted that this Mutated Demon Blood Qilin bore resemblance to the blood-colored qilin they had slain, except the Mutated Demon Blood Qilin was larger and appeared even more terrifying in presence.

The members of the Vanguard Team also noticed this detail, puzzled, "Did we previously kill not a Fire Qilin, but a Mutated Demon Blood Qilin?"

Leng Zhe issued commands and all teams acted accordingly, with a section of sacrificial pets charging ahead, initiating the head strike battle.

The Mutated Demon Blood Qilin ravaged the battlefield, yet under Leng Zhe's command, the troops methodically launched wave after wave of assaults, using pure pets charging at the forefront as targets for the Mutated Qilin's slaughter.

This wouldn't count as human-pet cooperation battle, merely utilizing pets as meat shields and cannon fodders.

There was no other option, given the time constraints, training a force for human-pet coordinated battles wasn't feasible.

Even so, Leng Zhe fully exploited these pets, minimizing pet casualties.

"This Leng Zhe is quite steady," Zhang Yujian couldn't help but praise.

Bai Yueguang also remarked in astonishment, "The commander is indeed capable, exploiting every possible resource for maximal effect with minimal loss, neither arrogant nor rash, seemingly controlling everything under his command, exhibiting traits of a great general."

"This is a ruthless commander," Zhu Hongzhi frowned.

He was well aware of such commanders who indeed were strong, yet through their eyes, soldiers' lives were mere statistics; numbers meant for trading and calculation. As long as they gained sufficient results, sacrificing particular soldiers was indisputable.

For soldiers, such a commander was savagely unforgiving, yet also the least concerning since they wouldn't let soldiers sacrifice without value.

Despite disfavoring such commanders, Zhu Hongzhi conceded this commander was formidable.

Everything proceeded without a hitch, Leng Zhe equated planning with execution, transferring nearly the whole conceived plan into reality almost perfectly.

Though seemingly straightforward, this required considerable adjustments amidst unforeseen scenarios, an ability to remain unaffected amidst a swiftly changing battlefield was astoundingly intimidating.
