God of Pets

Chapter 294: Making Early Plans

"How did you manage to kill Mei Qingta?" Ji Nanhong asked, looking at Chen Guan with a peculiar expression in her office.

"It wasn't me who killed him, it was the Secret Spirit," Chen Guan corrected.

"I don't believe that for a second; do you think the Inspectorate will believe it?" Ji Nanhong retorted, rolling her eyes.

"It really was the Secret Spirit that killed him. It has nothing to do with me," Chen Guan sighed.

"Can it pass the autopsy?" Ji Nanhong pressed, staring at Chen Guan.

"It can," Chen Guan nodded.

"The Inspectorate surely has people capable of tracing the injuries back to their source. It will be obvious who killed Mei Qingta; you can't hide it," Ji Nanhong still wasn't convinced.

"It truly was the Secret Spirit that killed Mei Qingta, even if someone could trace back the events, it has nothing to do with me," Chen Guan said with a smile. "Do you think a Level 13 Second Awakening Cultivator like me could kill a Level 30 Mei Qingta?"

"Other people definitely can't, but you might be an exception," Ji Nanhong said, but seeing Chen Guan's confidence, she was somewhat relieved.

Ji Nanhong asked about the situation at the time, and Chen Guan didn't hide anything. He recounted how Mei Qingta tried to kill him, but didn't mention anything about Ling'er.

He only said that Mei Qingta was unlucky and was killed by the suddenly appearing Secret Spirit.

"Mei Qingta doesn't have any personal vendetta against you. If he wanted to kill you, someone must have instructed him from the shadows. Rest assured, since it wasn't you who killed Mei Qingta, they won't be able to hold anything against you. I will certainly investigate this matter to the end," Ji Nanhong said with a cold expression, telling Chen Guan he could go home and rest.

Chen Guan knew Ji Nanhong was bound to contact Commander Ji; she didn't have enough power to investigate this matter herself.

Chen Guan didn't reveal what Mei Qingta told him at the end. If what Mei Qingta said was false, telling Ji Nanhong would only mislead her, causing her distress and sleepless nights.

If what Mei Qingta said was true, then the matter was even more complicated.

At this point, Chen Guan wasn't sure if Ji Nanhong had any retreat, but he himself had no intention of retreating; he intended to keep moving forward.

Chen Guan suspected that what Mei Qingta said was true and that this matter was far from over; there would certainly be a follow-up.

As Chen Guan expected, there indeed was a follow-up. Ji Nanhong's investigation reached some conclusions, though you could also argue there was no conclusion.

She discovered that Mei Qingta had accepted a significant favor from someone, and the reason he was assigned here was due to that person's maneuvering.

On the surface, that person also appeared to be a member of the Inspectorate, unrelated to anyone, yet in the end, they committed suicide out of guilt.

Everything seemed to suggest that the mastermind behind all this was the Inspectorate itself, wielded as a sharp blade by the Chief Judge.

However, through Ji Nanhong's meticulous investigation, she found some clues; various signs indicated that the person was secretly connected with the Xiu Family.

"The Xiu Family really has no shame, using such methods," Ji Nanhong said angrily, but she couldn't catch the Xiu Family red-handed.

Chen Guan, however, felt a chill in his heart. It wasn't the Xiu Family he feared, but the high being above the Celestial Court Army.

Compared to the Xiu Family, he leaned towards believing it was that person's handiwork.

If it truly was that person's doing, the relationship between the Ji Family and the Xiu Family would worsen. If Chen Guan was eliminated, then Ji Nanhong and the Xiu Family would have completely fallen out – who would benefit from that?

Would the Xiu Family gain from it? It seemed like they might, but they could also gain nothing. Chen Guan believed the greatest benefactor might be that lofty being.

"If he doesn't really want the Xiu Family to control the Celestial Court Army, then he is the biggest beneficiary of this matter," Chen Guan thought silently.

The Xiu Family might be his confidant, but they have been entrenched in the Celestial Court Army for too long and are too cohesive, showing an unstoppable momentum.

Once Commander Ji passes, if the Celestial Court Army falls into the Xiu Family's hands, there would be no one left to check the Xiu Family, and the Celestial Court Army would truly belong to the Xiu Family.

If Chen Guan was in that high position, he could accept a childless Commander Ji controlling the Celestial Court Army, but not a family like the Xiu Family having full control over it.

On the surface, he appeared to support the alliance between the Xiu Family and Ji Family, but that might not be his true intention.

Chen Guan couldn't be sure of his suspicions, but he had to prepare early, or he would be devoured with nothing left.

If neither the Xiu Family nor the Ji Family ended up in power, who would be the most suitable scapegoat?

Right now, it seemed nobody was more suitable than him.

"Mei Qingta asked me if I dared to believe before he died, actually telling me it wouldn't matter if I believed or not," Chen Guan felt a bit frustrated.

It's like working at a company where the chairman wants to mess with you, and you still want to get promoted?

"Fortunately, I'm just an insignificant nobody for now. Even if it was that person's handiwork, his target isn't actually me. Whether I'm alive or not doesn't affect him at all, and his purpose has indeed been achieved," Chen Guan mused over the possibilities again and again.

There wasn't much he could do at the moment, but there was one thing he must do, and that is to reach Third Awakening as soon as possible.

As long as he could achieve Third Awakening, he would be invincible in the Blessed Land. Even if that person wanted to deal with him, he wouldn't have the ability to while Chen Guan remained in the Blessed Land.

Neither Grotto Heaven nor Great Cave Heaven powerhouses could enter the Blessed Land; this would be his domain.

Would they send people to overwhelm him? With Chen Guan's Primordial Energy and abilities, he wasn't afraid of a siege.

"Since I have no connections, no background, and no support, then I can only rely on my own strength," Chen Guan operated the Secret Technique of One to absorb the Primordial Energy from the Blood Lingzhi, to quickly raise his level.

With the assistance of Blood Lingzhi, Chen Guan's level rose much faster than before.

In terms of Secret Skills, Chen Guan also didn't slack off. He practiced any Secret Skill he could, seizing every possible opportunity.

The battle with Mei Qingta made Chen Guan realize that relying on external forces like the Eternal Reflection wasn't trustworthy in the long run.

It could be a trump card, but he couldn't rely solely on it for everything.

Chen Guan found ways to acquire the necessary Secret Skills for cultivating the Disabling Fist from various channels.

For someone like him with money, obtaining those Secret Skills was simple; it wasn't a challenge at all.

This was the most remarkable aspect of the Disabling Fist. If Chen Guan had created such a Secret Skill, he too would want to show the world how divine his creation was. A few ordinary Secret Skills combined could achieve effects that even an Unparalleled Secret Skill couldn't reach – such genius!

As for harming others and the fear of not ending well in the future, Chen Guan didn't care at all.

If there really was such a thing as karma, wouldn't Chen Xinghe have died long ago? How could he still be alive and well?
