God of Pets

Chapter 317: Miscalculation

Although Kuang Liu appeared arrogant, he still summoned a pure white Persian cat.

The three of them looked at Kuang Liu with a curious expression, surprised that someone as brawny and bald as Kuang Liu would keep a pet like a Persian cat.

The Persian cat is a type of spirit cat, much like a house guard dog, both considered semi-spirit pets.

They are certain types of pet cats, which become spirit pets after being raised by their owners using special methods from a young age and transformed upon death.

Compared to house guard dogs, spirit cats have much less attack power, and also lack the loyalty and intelligence of the dogs.

Most spirit cats aren't actually useful, with their symbolic meaning outweighing practicality.

People like Kuang Liu, Chen Guan and the others believed should have a fierce house guard dog, but unexpectedly it's a Persian cat as the spirit pet.

This Persian cat was pure white with mismatched eyes, one gold and one green, which is a common trait among odd-eyed Persian cats.

"Never seen a man keep a spirit cat?" Kuang Liu said indignantly, feeling embarrassed: "My Persian cat is different from ordinary ones, I found it in an ancient tomb, it was lying on the tomb owner's coffin, do you know what it's called?"

"What's it called?" Chen Guan asked.

"Such a cat isn't simply a cat, it's called a Soul Suppressing Spirit Beast." Kuang Liu said as he hugged the snowball-like Persian cat: "It can suppress evil spirits and ghosts, you don't understand."

Zhang Chunxiang laughed, "There is indeed a legend about spirit cats suppressing souls, but according to what I know, a soul-suppressing spirit cat should be a pure black cat. Yours looks like a white cat, and a Persian cat at that."

"Who says a white cat can't be a soul suppressing beast? Who says a Persian cat can't be a soul suppressing spirit cat?" Kuang Liu retorted immediately.

"Why did you go to an ancient tomb?" Chen Guan asked out of curiosity.

This question seemed to hit a nerve, and Kuang Liu proudly recounted: "Back then a construction site near my home unearthed a hole while digging the foundation. Several people died there, and it was said that it was haunted..."

At that time Kuang Liu was only about eleven or twelve but daringly explored the construction pit alone after being challenged by a group of friends and took a bet to venture it at midnight.

Kuang Liu didn't die, which was just his luck.

The pit connected to an ancient tomb and contained many harmful gases due to environmental reasons, which were the cause of the workers' deaths.

When Kuang Liu went down at midnight, after a day's ventilation, the harmful gases were mostly gone, allowing him to escape safely.

This Persian cat is what Kuang Liu found on top of the coffin in the ancient tomb.

Whether it truly was a tomb guarding spirit beast, or just ran in after the construction opened up, no one knows, but Kuang Liu insists on telling others it's a tomb guarding spirit beast.

After Kuang Liu finished talking about the cat's origin, a quarter of an hour had passed.

Chen Guan had already summoned his full set of Divine Armor and warily watched his surroundings, ready for whatever might happen.

The Warring States stood guard in front of Chen Guan, regularly scanning the area with heightened senses.

Suddenly, a mysterious wind emerged out of nowhere, forming small whirlwinds that swept through the summoned pets, catching them in the gusts.

Chen Guan's expression changed as he rushed towards the Warring States and attempted to recall him.

Before he could finish, the whirlwinds disappeared as quickly as they'd come, vanishing into thin air.

"Hey, my Big Water Buffalo's growth rate increased by 0.1," Zhang Chunxiang said, surprised as she stroked the Big Water Buffalo's head.

Hearing this, Chen Guan and the rest quickly checked their own pets, and indeed, each of their growth rates had increased by 0.1.

Yang Sanlang regretted, "Had I known this, I would have summoned my best pet."

Looking at the Warring States' growth rate increased by 0.1, Chen Guan thought, "If this 0.1 were added to the Ghost Eye, its growth rate would have surpassed 2."

He only thought this because the Ghost Eye is not a beast-type Secret Spirit, and who knows what might happen if he summoned it.

Nonetheless, even a small increase in the Warring States' growth rate was good, potentially boosting its chances of a Second Awakening.

"Life is a gamble, and the unknown is the most exciting part. If you already knew the other's cards, there's no thrill," Kuang Liu remarked casually.

"First test complete...Second test begins...Within twelve hours...Use the beast pets you just summoned...They must hunt and kill one Secret Spirit on their own...Failure to comply or missing the deadline...Man...pet...all...will die...Countdown starts..." the mystical voice announced once more.

These words caused a change in everyone's expression.

Killing a Secret Spirit, even a Third Awakening Secret Spirit, is not impossible.

But the fact that the mysterious voice demands they use their recently summoned pets to kill a Secret Spirit made it highly challenging.

Of the four summoned pets, three were semi-spirit pets.

Yang Sanlang's wolf, Chen Guan's Warring States, and Kuang Liu's Persian cat were all semi-spirit pets, and only Zhang Chunxiang's Big Water Buffalo wasn't.

Yang Sanlang's wolf, although a semi-spirit pet, had already achieved Second Awakening and reached level 20.

Chen Guan and Kuang Liu were worse off, as both Warring States and the Persian cat were at level 10, uncertain if there even existed a level 10 or lower Secret Spirit for them to kill in this ghostly place.

"I wonder who's playing tricks, daring to come out and bet with me face-to-face," Kuang Liu shouted at the sky, but no one responded.

"Let's first try to find the Secret Spirit here; perhaps this task isn't that difficult to complete." Chen Guan suggested as he surveyed the surroundings.

"You don't think they can really kill us if we don't complete it?" Kuang Liu scoffed but nevertheless clutched his Persian cat and followed Chen Guan honestly.

Yang Sanlang advised, "Better to believe it than not; let's complete the test. Maybe we can increase the growth rate by another 0.1, which wouldn't be bad."

"True enough." Kuang Liu finally relented.

The location was mountainous, so they headed toward Tiger Mountain, and soon spotted a green wild boar meandering through the woods.

The boar wasn't very large, about the size of a 100-pound domestic pig, with greyish-green skin and black bristles.

Different from regular wild boars, this one had a thick layer of bronze matter on its face, resembling a bronze mask.

"This is a Bronze Mask Boar... its level is at least 18 and above..." Zhang Chunxiang identified the Secret Spirit instantly.

Hearing this, they all felt a sense of foreboding.
