Running A Cemetery in North America

Chapter 177: Suffering Bodhisattva of the Snow Mountains Journey Across Tibet (Part 2)

He struggled to sit up and only then noticed Sun Yan sitting beside him. Startled, he fell from the stool to the ground and asked cautiously, "Who are you?"

"No need to panic. I saved you from that woman. If I had wanted to harm you, you wouldn't be alive now."

Sun Yan stared at the young man in front of him and asked, "I need you to tell me, what is this place?"

"You saved me, you drove away the Suffering Bodhisattva?" The boy widened his eyes in disbelief, his mouth gaping wide enough to swallow an egg, his expression full of incredulity.

"No, I killed her," Sun Yan said.

"Impossible, no one can kill the Suffering Bodhisattva in Tibet. It's a ghost of Tibet. Unless you are the reincarnation of a Bodhisattva or Living Buddha, no one can do it."

The boy shook his head vigorously, completely disbelieving Sun Yan's claim.

"Tibet... What is your name?"

Hearing the word Tibet mentioned by the boy, Sun Yan couldn't help but frown. He remembered there was also a place called Tibet in the Ancient Eastern Kingdom.

That place was full of ancient legends and mysterious events.

Could it be that he had come to Tibet this time?

"Damian Dorje."

Having received the boy's answer and hearing this name, Sun Yan became even more certain of his guess. It seemed he had indeed come to Tibet.

This posed some difficulty. Tibet was vast and sparsely populated, and it had been more than half a month since Sosia and the others had come here. Finding them would be incredibly difficult.

"Dorje, do you know if there is any village nearby?"

"There is one, but it has been destroyed by the Suffering Bodhisattva..." Damian Dorje climbed up from the ground, his expression bleak.

He quietly clenched his fists, tears falling from his eyes, turning into bean-sized drops on the ground.

Seeing this situation, Sun Yan knew that Damian Dorje was most likely a survivor who escaped from that village.

It seemed there was no need to go and check that village anymore.

Sun Yan sighed and asked, "As a local, where do you plan to go next? Any recommended places?"

"I heard from my dad that there's a Vajra Temple to the north of the village. The Living Buddha resides in the temple and can protect the people of Tibet from the threat of the Suffering Bodhisattva. I plan to go there and find Master Sangji."

The young man rubbed his hands, the chilblains on them causing unbearable pain and itching. Coupled with not knowing how long he had walked in the snow, Damian Dorje was thirsty, exhausted, and hungry. If he went to find the Vajra Temple alone, he feared he would die on the way before reaching the destination.

"Take me with you, I can protect your safety," Sun Yan proposed.

Unexpectedly, Damian Dorje shook his head decisively, earnestly persuading, "That's not possible. I have seen the appearance of the Suffering Bodhisattva; she has already set her sights on me. She won't stop until she kills me. If you travel with me, you will surely encounter disaster."

"You don't need to worry about that. If I can destroy that thing once, I can destroy it a second and a third time."

Sun Yan said solemnly, "Listen, kid, you know very well that if we stay here, with no food or water, there's only one road left to death. Compared to the Suffering Bodhisattva you mentioned, I think starving to death is even more tragic. Whatever doomsday you speak of means nothing compared to hunger, understand? We must quickly find a place where there are people."

Faced with Sun Yan's words, Damian Dorje could only nod, "I understand, you're right."

Saying that, he walked towards the Divine Statue in the Abandoned Church, kneeling reverently on the ground.

"Please bless me to reach the Vajra Temple alive and meet Master Sangji."

Damian Dorje prostrated himself on the ground, and suddenly Sun Yan felt a vibration from the notebook in his pocket. He quickly took it out to check.

[The Unowned Deity has received a prayer, Power of Faith increased]

[Yes/No to consume Power of Faith to grant the Deity's blessing to the prayer requester]

This was not the first time Sun Yan had encountered such a situation. Last time when Tina prayed in a church, Sun Yan similarly granted her the power to eliminate the Living Dead.

Yes!

Instantly, a mysterious force emanated from inside the Divine Statue of the Unowned Deity, flowing into Damian Dorje's body.

Damian Dorje's chilblains began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye, with wounds closing up, leaving only scabs.

"This is!"

Damian Dorje widened his eyes in disbelief, a miracle! A true miracle!

He quickly kowtowed several times towards the Divine Statue of the Unowned Deity until his forehead turned red before Sun Yan pulled him up from the ground.

"Don't waste time, we need to get going."

...

Snowy days in Tibet are extremely dangerous.

Even locals who have lived here for long cannot devise any countermeasures during snowstorms.

To be precise, no one can be a match for nature.

Humans can only maintain the most genuine awe towards nature. Anyone who opposes nature will ultimately die due to their overconfidence.

Sun Yan and Damian Dorje trudged slowly through the snow, heading north.

The fierce wind and heavy snow left them with no desire to converse, only numb as they kept lifting their legs towards the endless horizon.

Before long, a snow-covered mound caught Sun Yan's attention.

This mound looked like an altar, with a peculiar arrangement. Atop the altar, there sat an old man in a red robe.

Most of his skin was covered with snow, and although his body was gaunt, he stood like an ancient pine in the snow.

Upon seeing the old man, Damian Dorje hurriedly stepped forward and bowed reverently.

Sun Yan curiously asked, "Why did this person die here? Is it a custom of yours in Tibet?"

"How impolite. This is a Tibetan traveler; he is not dead. He is just staying here to cultivate his inner self."

Damian Dorje hastily explained.

"Can an ordinary person cultivate in such weather? What a joke. Do you know how many degrees below zero it is now?" Sun Yan exclaimed.

Even with the Divine Martial Physique of the True Monarch of Pure Origin and Mysterious Dao assisting him, he still felt the cold in his hands and feet.

The old man before them was clearly a normal person; how could an ordinary person survive such sub-zero temperatures unscathed?

Even though Tibetan lamas always advocated for mental transcendence over the body, Sun Yan didn't believe human spirit could defy nature to this extent.

Upon hearing Sun Yan's words, the unmoving old man on the mound slowly opened his eyes, snow sliding off his body.

"You're not from Tibet. How did you get here?"

The old man looked at Sun Yan and then at Damian Dorje beside him, "You carry the aura of doom, disaster closely follows. You must find a shelter soon, child."

Damian Dorje bowed sincerely, "Thank you for your guidance, traveler lama. I am now planning to head to the Vajra Temple to seek refuge."

Upon hearing this, the Tibetan traveler's face immediately showed a strange expression: "Vajra Temple... Here, take this. Always carry it with you, I hope you won't need it."

The Tibetan traveler took out a thangka made of some unknown material from his robe and handed it to Damian Dorje, then closed his eyes again, regaining his original motionless state.

"What a riddler..." Sun Yan couldn't help but mutter to himself.

He also began to suspect that the Tibet mentioned by Damian Dorje might not be the Tibet he was familiar with.

A Tibetan traveler who could meditate in the snow without freezing, a rumored undying Suffering Bodhisattva, these phenomena were just too bizarre.

"No wonder Sosia and the others went missing here, it seems the situation in Tibet far exceeds my normal understanding."

After putting away the thangka given by the Tibetan traveler, Damian Dorje bowed and continued to walk forward.

Before long, Sun Yan and Damian Dorje disappeared into the vast white snow.

"Coo! Coo! Coo!"

Shortly after they left, a series of strange owl calls suddenly resounded around them.
