"The first has to do with finance, not just addition, subtraction and the basics but real finance management, a lot of new terms came up, thanks to our father, Caelum and I are familiar with some of them but most of it is confusing." Selene explained.
"The next two are similar."
Seris squinted, "I'm guessing those are the big three."
"Fitting name." Selene acknowledged.
"I heard about it, most CD students avoid it as their plus two, they're mostly for SD." Seris explained.
"So if we were to follow custom, we'd have to pick out of the remaining three." Selene said.
"So are we following custom?" Caelum asked.
"I am, they're called big three for a reason, I'm not getting into that." Seris waved her hands.
"I'm not, I'm going for the first and fifth." Selene shrugged.
Seris just stared at her.
"I'm interested." Selene replied simply.
"As uncomfortable as I am with saying this, I'm with Seris on this one. Fourth and fifth for me." Caelum announced.
Seris didn't know whether to be offended or proud.
She turned to Orion with questioning eyes.
Orion had been thinking about it since he first saw the courses and he was quite surprised, the level of difficulty of these courses should be more than ten year olds could handle, then again ten year olds should be incapable of holding conversations like this, but he realized he's been looking at it from the perspective of an Earthling.
As for his decision, at first he wasn't bothered with any of the big three as they called it, finance and law wasn't his repertoire and he'd done medicine on earth, it wouldn't be as thrilling the second time, but he was starting to reconsider.
The curious part of him, was interested in knowing how exactly mana or magic interacted with this body of theirs. Then there was the chance that maybe, just maybe the humans on earth and on Velastra were biologically different.
It wouldn't be very obvious, from the outline he'd seen, most of the organs and parts were the same on both worlds, from what he could feel, the muscles of the arm and forearm were basically the same, he hadn't noticed any difference in the surface landmarks of the body.
That didn't mean there weren't any, some parts only dissection could uncover, all this culminated to his interest in magical medicine.
Then again, it wasn't just magical medicine, it was introduction, meaning there was a chance they wouldn't even get to the dissection part, and he wouldn't blame them, there was a limit to what can be thought in just four years, especially when there were other major courses to cover.
'Who even does, medicine law and finance all at once' He thought.
It was mind boggling.
Either way, he'd made his decision, he'd go with magical medicine, if they didn't do anything new and it ends up becoming redundant, so be it, and if not, he'd be in for something new.
"Second and fifth" Orion announced.
"What!, why wo-." Seris stopped abruptly.
"Why am I surprised, you're the weirdo who loves libraries." She waved him off.
Selene and Caelum were mildly curious why he'd gone for medicine specifically but they chose not ask, it could just be a whim.
"So which two are you picking?" Selene turned to Seris and asked.
Seris put a finger on her chin.
"Might as well go with fifth and sixth."
"Good, so we've all decided our departments and extra two courses, we are ready for tomorrow." Selene concluded.
"You know what just occurred to me, we just need one more person in our group. Someone to go for the third and we're all set." Seris announced.
"Set for what?" Caelum asked.
"I don't know. Set for life or whatever." Seris shrugged.
"Despite how badly put, Seris might be on to something. Having someone in all courses and department can come in handy sometime." Selene reasoned.
"See." Seris pointed at Caelum.
"That's something for another time. For now I believe everything's in place." Orion said.
They all nodded.
Tomorrow they would report their chosen departments.
The day after, classes would begin.
Seris flopped backward into the grass and groaned. "I can't believe we're starting already."
"You knew this was coming," Selene said.
"I know. Doesn't mean I'm ready."
"You're never ready," Caelum muttered.
"Shut up."
Orion said nothing, simply listening. The park breeze was light, the chatter around them low and scattered. Students were moving in small clusters across the field—studying, relaxing, arguing over points, or discussing upcoming department evaluations.
Normal academy life.
They continued sharing scattered details, nothing groundbreaking, nothing heavy. Just general information: where the best study rooms were, which seniors gave the best advice, which shops in the spire were overpriced, which instructors were rumored to be strict.
Two hours passed easily.
By six, they wrapped up.
"Tomorrow morning?" Selene confirmed.
"Yeah," Orion said.
Seris hopped to her feet. "Alright, I'm off. If I stay longer, I'll start thinking about homework."
Caelum blinked. "Class hasn't even started."
"I know," Seris said solemnly. "That's why it's dangerous."
They split at the park entrance—Selene and Seris heading toward their wings, Caelum and Orion toward theirs.
The walk back was short. No one spoke much. The sky had shifted to the academy's evening coloration, casting a soft gradient of purples and deep blues along the path.
When they reached Magnum One, the building's interior was active. Students were still in the lounge, eating or chatting over games.
Dinner was simple and quick.
Afterward, Orion and Caelum joined the lounge like they had every evening this week. Games were already spread out across the tables—rune tiles, mana boards, projection puzzles. A few students waved them over.
Orion took a seat and reintroduced the chessboard he'd drawn earlier in the week. Some of the dormmates wanted another round. Caelum joined him, quietly focusing on patterns and dissecting every move.
It was comfortable.
Uncomplicated.
No pressure.
Just a calm end to their first week at the academy.
Orion leaned back slightly after another chess match, watching the room's easy motion. Students laughed, argued over strategy, complained about meals, and exchanged information.
Tomorrow marked the start of something new.
The day after marked the true beginning.
