BOOM!!

The ground she was just on had exploded into splinters, rocks flying everywhere.

She peered through the dust to find someone crouching in the crater, their fist lodged in the ground.

"Huh? I could swear I'd definitely hit you," Selene heard the person mutter.

She waved her hand to fully clear the dust, and the person's appearance came into view.

When she saw the person, her eyes narrowed.

The first thought that came to mind was.

'Conspicuous'

A girl, she noted, judging by the already developing bust and her face. She had silver and red hair, and not just small or minor tints of contrast; she was half and half. Red on the right and Silver on the left.

Selene had never seen or heard of anyone with such a unique appearance. She considered the usage of dye, but once the girl turned to her, she saw her mismatched eyes. She realised it was unlikely.

If Orion were present, his mind would go to contact lenses, but he'd doubt if they were present on Velastra.

The girl was wearing a streamlined red and black tunic that stuck to her body and was perfectly fitted for combat.

Selene noted she had never seen anybody so unique in Magnum 1, so she was most likely a commoner.

The girl stood up, dislodging her arm from the crater.

Her mismatched eyes turned to stare at Selene before a smile broke out on her face.

"I'm sure that hit was supposed to connect," the girl said again, this time her voice louder.

Now that struck Selene as odd. Why was she repeating her statement?

"I heard you the first time," Selene replied, her tone placid.

"If it missed, I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to hit." She continued.

The girl chuckled.

"Yeah, that's just it. I never miss. That punch was meant to hit you, no matter how fast you moved," She stated matter-of-factly. Her red eye glowing faintly.

Selene just tilted her head, her mind trying to wrap around the enigma that was this girl.

"Oh, don't try to act oblivious, you did something." The girl said, the smile still on her face.

Selene's eyes narrowed.

"Whatever you did made me miss, and I've never missed before. What was it?" The girl probed, walking closer to Selene.

Selene just sighed.

"Listen, I'm not sure what this whole drama's for, but I really do not have time to waste with you. I can tell you wish to fight. Get on with it." Selene said, her gaze unwavering.

Selene said all that, fully expecting to enrage or frustrate the girl, but much to her own frustration, the girl's smile became wider.

"You're direct, I like direct. Yes, I wish to fight you, but not for the same reason as the rest. So far, all I've done is fight for points, but you-you made me miss-that is intriguing." She said, stopping a meter from Selene.

"You must have a lot of confidence in your skill," Selene stated back.

"More than confidence, far more-" The girl said, her eyes studying Selene.

Selene couldn't understand what exactly was going on. This wasn't the first time she'd encountered someone like this. Normally, she'd have taken matters into her own hands instead of conversing like this, most especially now that she was in a hurry.

Yet despite her thoughts on acting, she didn't move.

'Am I scared?' She asked herself.

'No, ' She thought with certainty.

She was far from scared, yet she was hesitant. She could tell the girl would give her a tough time, but she was prepared and ready.

'Maybe it's the hair colour.' She thought.

Maybe she was dazzled by the girl's uniqueness.

Before she could go deeper into her thoughts.

"What's your name?" The girl asked after a while of studying Selene.

Selene immediately scowled.

"You sho-" She was about to reprimand her.

"Daenys." The girl interrupted.

"I am Daenys Chronos." The girl said, her eyes glowing different colours. Selene could swear she saw her hair floating.

'Daenys, ' Selene thought, the name running rampant in her mind.

'Dangerous. Very dangerous.' Selene thought, her guard raising even higher.

Daenys was a name she'd seen in the top rankings, coming and going, although last time she'd checked, she was no longer there; her prowess was still undeniable. Still, Selene didn't panic, raise her guard higher-yes-, scared? Hell no.

"Selene." She said simply.

"Nice name, pleasure to meet you, Selene," Daenys said with a smile.

"Same," Selene replied.

"You're not scared?" Daenys asked with a tilt of her head.

"Why would I be?" Selene replied.

Daenys just smiled; of course, anyone would know why. Most people, after hearing her name, fled or at least showed some degree of fear, but Selene's unfazed expression screamed about her strength and pride.

Daenys' smile faltered a bit, a look of contemplation appearing on her face.

"You know, for someone who likes direct and straightforward, your expression and actions so far have screamed hesitation," Selene said.

Daenys just laughed.

"You're hesitant to fight me," Selene said directly.

"Far from it, I'm quite excited to fight you." Daenys denied.

Selene observed her, not noticing any hint of a lie, and that perplexed her for a second before she suddenly realised.

"Right. You're excited to fight me but not defeat me." Selene clarified.

Daenys just smiled.

"I'm not sure of two things. Can you clarify them for me?" Selene asked.

"Sure," Daenys replied.

"Firstly, we haven't seen each other for up to a minute, yet you don't want to beat me. Why?" Selene asked.

"You want the honest answer?" Daenys asked.

"I really don't think anything about this situation would require a wrong answer," Selene said with a raised brow.

Daenys chuckled.

"I want you to be my friend," Daenys said with a smile.

A complicated expression appeared on Selene's face.

She twirled around, checking herself out.

She didn't think there was anything on her that screamed 'be my friend'; she already had enough trouble with Seris.

"I haven't even asked my second question, and I already have more," Selene said, exasperated.

"My right eye has never failed me, and it wants you as a friend," Daenys said with an excited expression, her right eye faintly glowing red.
