Shen Jingqi, Xu An, and Lin Yu charged toward the direction of the light with all their might. That light, like a thread of hope in a deep abyss of darkness, flickered in the ink-like thick mist, pulling at their hearts like an invisible hand, luring them to approach at all costs.
Along the way, they continuously battled with shadowy figures. Those shadows, like ghosts emerging from Hell, were silent yet extremely fierce. They had various forms, some resembling twisted vines, clawing and wrapping around them; others like hideous beasts, leaping with low growls. Each confrontation was a life-and-death struggle.
Shen Jingqi wielded the short knife in his hand, the blade slicing through the mist with flashes of cold light. His gaze was resolute and determined, each strike of his knife carried the courage of burning one's bridges. "Don't stop! There's hope if we break through!" he shouted loudly, his voice echoing in the mist with an undeniable power. However, scars already covered his arm, blood seeping from the wounds and staining his sleeve, yet he remained oblivious, mechanically wielding the knife, fending off the encroaching shadows again and again.
Xu An gripped the wooden stick in his hand tightly; although his movements weren't as fierce as Shen Jingqi's, they were full of force. With each swing of the stick, a whooshing sound accompanied it, smashing heavily into the shadows. "Damn things, don't think you can stop us!" he roared, veins bulging on his forehead, sweat soaking his back. His leg, too, was scratched by a shadow, causing a piercing pain with every step, but he gritted his teeth, enduring the pain, following Shen Jingqi and Lin Yu step by step.
Lin Yu, on the other hand, appeared somewhat disheveled, his body covered in dirt and bloodstains, the longsword in his hand slightly nicked from frequent battles. His eyes showed a trace of fatigue, but more so determination. "We cannot give up, we must break through, we have to break through!" he repeatedly encouraged himself in his heart. He skillfully dodged the shadows' attacks while seeking opportunities to counterattack. Every thrust of his longsword carried his desire for survival.
Suddenly, a massive shadow leaped out of the mist, bearing down on them like a small mountain. Shen Jingqi's heart skipped a beat, and he swiftly sidestepped while swinging his knife at the shadow. The blade struck the shadow, only to spark briefly, and the shadow merely paused slightly before lunging at them again. Seeing this, Xu An hurriedly swung his wooden stick, smashing at the shadow's legs. The stick landed heavily on the shadow with a dull thud, but the shadow only staggered, seemingly unaffected.
Lin Yu seized the opportunity to move behind the shadow, leaping high and thrusting his longsword towards the shadow's back. The longsword pierced into the shadow, but only halfway before getting stuck. The shadow roared in pain, spinning around to pounce on Lin Yu. Lin Yu couldn't evade in time and was knocked to the ground by the shadow. The shadow opened its bloodied mouth, aiming for Lin Yu's neck.
"Lin Yu!" Shen Jingqi and Xu An shouted in unison. They charged at the shadow, determined to save Lin Yu. Shen Jingqi mustered all his strength, thrusting his short knife towards the shadow's eye. The shadow sensed danger and quickly closed its eyes, the knife only managing a shallow cut on its eyelid. Xu An meanwhile smashed the shadow's head forcefully with the wooden stick, which broke in two, leaving the shadow dizzy and freeing Lin Yu.
Lin Yu took the chance to break free, gasping for breath, his face full of terror. "Thank you..." he said weakly. Shen Jingqi and Xu An helped him up, the three standing back-to-back, warily watching the surroundings. By now, their bodies bore more and more scars, with blood continuously flowing, their strength gradually depleting. Yet they did not give up, with only one belief in their hearts: to break through this mist.
"What on earth is this light? Why are there so many shadows guarding it?" Xu An asked, panting. His eyes were filled with confusion and fear.
Shen Jingqi furrowed his brow, pondering. "I don't know, but I feel there's definitely a secret hidden behind this light. Maybe it's our only chance to leave this place," he said.
Lin Yu nodded. "No matter what, we can't give up. Even if it's a sea of fire ahead, we must forge our way through," he said resolutely.
Just then, a strange sound came from the mist. It sounded like someone whispering, or a mysterious creature hissing, sending chills down their spines. The three tightened together, warily watching the direction of the sound.
"What is that sound?" Xu An asked, his voice trembling.
Shen Jingqi shook his head. "I don't know, but it can't be good. Be careful!" he said.
As the sound drew closer, they saw a group of shadows appearing in the mist. These shadows were different from the previous ones; they emitted a strange glow, their eyes filled with a sinister aura. They slowly advanced towards them, each step bringing a sense of oppression.
"What do we do?" Lin Yu asked anxiously.
Shen Jingqi took a deep breath, tightening his grip on the short knife in his hand.
The three charged at the shadows once again, engaging in fierce combat. This time, the battle was even more brutal. The shadowy figures' attacks were more ferocious, and their defenses were more solid. Shen Jingqi and the others found it increasingly difficult to cope, accumulating many new wounds on their bodies.
In the heat of battle, Shen Jingqi suddenly noticed that these shadows seemed to be moving towards the light. Could it be that the light attracted them somehow? Or perhaps the light was what they were guarding? His mind was filled with questions.
"Let's follow them!" Shen Jingqi suddenly shouted.
Xu An and Lin Yu paused for a moment, but quickly understood his intention. They nodded, following Shen Jingqi, seizing opportunities between the shadows' attacks, rushing towards the light.
The shadows seemed to sense their intention, turning to pursue them. For a moment, the mist was filled with shouts and roars, the scene chaotic.
Shen Jingqi and the others ran desperately, with the relentless shadows hot on their heels. Each time they looked back, they saw those strangely glowing shadows, like phantoms, following closely. Their hearts raced, their breath becoming rapid.
"We're almost there! Almost there!" Lin Yu shouted loudly. His eyes sparkled with hope.
Finally, they burst out of the mist. Before them lay an open space, a massive light sphere at its center, emitting dazzling light. The light was like the sun, illuminating the entire area. The shadows, upon reaching a certain distance from the light sphere, stopped in their tracks, daring not to advance.
"This is it!" Shen Jingqi said excitedly.
