"This is strange. They shouldn't be so weak, especially since we curated our numbers to have a strong advantage but not enough to completely steamroll them," Liu Sha remarked aloud with a puzzled expression, his head slightly tilted.
The others also felt the same, but they couldn't put their fingers on what felt amiss. Meanwhile, Dongfang Wang, who was also slightly puzzled with a grim expression, seemed to receive some sort of information or premonition and suddenly turned to flee.
"IT'S A TRAP! RUN!" he screamed, causing the faces of the others to change as they scattered immediately without doubting him, pulling out their best escape techniques and methods on the spot.
Immediately, the others who had dived to attack also received an alarm, broadcast through their sect tokens by the upper echelon of the sect, warning them to escape.
However, before everyone could go far or make any significant move, a sigh was heard in the area.
"Indeed, trying to trick a bunch of tricksters is quite difficult. It seems that we have to use force in the end."
The voice was gruff and quite arrogant, sounding right beside the ears of everyone in the area regardless of where they were physically, making them change expressions.
Suddenly, a giant hand made out of bluish-black energy appeared in the sky, crashing down upon the airship and everyone on it.
Feeling the vast energy and powerful law contained within, the faces of all those still on the airship changed to utter horror and despair.
"No, please wait! I don't want to die here!"
"Senior, stop! We are deacons of the Six Paths Demon Sect!"
"How dare you? How dare you ambush the Six Paths Demon Sect?!"
"Ah! I am not reconciled!"
The Path Controllers still on the ship who had thought everything was in the bag, even having time to scheme among themselves while enjoying the scene of the Black Heaven Sect disciples' terror, began to scream in despair themselves as they knew death was upon them.
However, their cries fell on deaf ears as the airship was grabbed by the giant hand and crushed like a piece of rotten wood, crushing everything within with sheer power. The air exploded with power and blood as the hand squeezed and turned everyone in its grip to mush before opening it lazily, allowing the remains to fall to the ground in a huge heap.
This scene left both those of the Black Heaven Sect and the remaining Six Paths Hall warriors who had left the ship before the attack began wearing shocked expressions. That airship contained nearly a thousand Path Walkers and two dozen Path Controllers, all gone just like that?!
Even the Black Heaven Sect didn't know what was happening, but they sure were happy about it. With more of their besiegers killed, they had a higher chance of escaping this siege and starting a new life elsewhere. However, the next words of the voice in the void shocked the survivors.
"Hmm? Is there someone else in the void here? Oh, it's you!"
These words made those arrayed against each other down below feel ignorant as they looked around randomly, trying to identify who the voice was speaking to.
Li Ling felt his heart go cold as he believed he had been discovered, and was prepared to rush into his Void Space to hide out because the situation had changed too fast from something manageable to something critical.
However, a soft chuckle sounded that caused him to pause.
"Why did you stop? Continue harming the darling little ones of my sect; I won't do anything." The voice teased with a hint of malice, causing the blood of everyone to chill.
Out of the void stepped a humanoid creature with a bald head, two large green eyes, no nose, and a cartoonishly large mouth—along with trembling whiskers—that had an expression of grim reluctance on his face. His body was covered in blue-black scales, making him look like a bizarre fishman that was half mer and half murlock.
From the other side, a woman wearing the typical white and gold of the Six Paths Demon Sect appeared, riding on a wave of crimson blood that surged with bones and semi-decomposed organs. She was beautiful in a bewitching way, with short red hair styled into a curly bob, pale white skin that was partly flushed, and a slightly endowed figure that was not extreme but also not lacking.
Of course, what commanded the most attention was her pair of dark-colored eyes, which were full of cruelty and inhumanity, looking more like a demon beast than the half-human man opposite her.
Li Ling's eyes narrowed as he scanned her to verify his suspicions and, indeed, the Infinite Slaughter System directly told him that it was not possible, as her realm was too high. He got the same kind of response for the fellow opposite her, and his heart became cold because, while the system failed to give him information, his Asura Blood Token had come alive.
He, Path Lord Li Ling, should be aware that he was in the presence of the nobility of the Upper Sect, one of the backbones of their faction and a beloved True Inheritor, Zhen Xueren!
However, whether it was Li Ling still pushing his limits by hiding in the void despite the growing damage to his body or the remaining Path Lords and Path Ascenders who had avoided death by leaping out of the airship for the initial attack, none felt relieved by this revelation.
Because everyone knew that the requirement for a True Inheritor meant that the person was a minimum seventh-realm powerhouse of either body or qi, meaning that they had crossed two whole stages in the overall paths of cultivation and at least four major realms from them!
Forget fighting or running, now even whether they could breathe was completely out of their hands. Before a being of this level, there was no manner of scheme or trick that could work to save them, so everyone rather became grim-faced.
But now that they knew this, they didn't understand. Why was a Void Refinement-tier cultivator from their side here? And why was there one on the enemy's side, judging by the fact that the bald man could speak to their True Inheritor so easily?
It seemed that Zhen Xueren was interested in informing everyone as she chuckled cruelly and touched her lips. "Truly, I didn't think my little trick would actually catch a fish~"
The face of the bald man was grim and unhappy. "I am not a fish, damn wench! I am the noble Ao Heilan of the Supreme Jiao Clan!"
Zhen Xueren rolled her eyes. "Does it matter where you are from now that you are here before me? Your clan may be strong in the Boundless Sea, but on Tian Ming Continent, the sects have the final say in all matters!"
Ao Heilan did not refute this, only taking a deep breath and considering his options. "So what do you want? Since you think you lured me here, you must have what I seek then?"
Zhen Xueren smiled and plopped down on her surging blood wave, lazily taking on her foe. "What do I want? Hmm, I don't know exactly because I want a lot of things, but I'm guessing you're asking what I want from you specifically."
She then rested her cheek upon her left fist while pointing her right hand's index finger at Ao Heilan. "In that case, it's quite simple, I want your life!"
Ao Heilan, who had been holding his temper to try and negotiate, exploded with blueish-black energy that towered to the sky and suffocated everyone in range, making them grip their necks as if they were being strangled alive.
However, Zhen Xueren didn't do anything to stop him and save anyone on the Six Paths Demon Sect's side. She even released her own towering Blood Energy, which seemed to form a river in the sky, allowing it to rush downwards towards those of the Six Paths Demon Sect and the Black Heaven Sect.
What is this?!
Those in the Black Heaven Sect were shocked silly, not understanding why the one who was obviously on the side of the Six Paths Demon Sect would willingly harm her own people like this?
Meanwhile, those part of the Six Paths Demon Sect showed no surprise, not even Li Ling. He may not have been here as long as some of these other Path Lords and Path Ascenders, but he sure as hell understood the way a sect like this worked.
None of them, mere Path Lords and Path Ascenders who were at the second or third realm of cultivation, were worth even one toe of a True Inheritor who had reached the seventh realm and became a mainstay of the sect, allowing it to maintain dominance in the overall cultivation world.
Even in a righteous sect, if the cultivation gap between the criminal and the victim was more than two realms, it was likely that nothing would be done to them, not even a slap on the wrist.
So the Six Paths Halls warriors, including Li Ling, who dared not show himself, were only able to make their final prayers as death poured down upon them, aiming to reap their lives on the spot!
