Aiden also mentioned another concern to Cronyssia. "I'm shocked that the Demon King was able to pass through the time field," he said. "Even when he's only using his power through mere possession of his demons."
Cronyssia's expression remained grim as she replied.
"The Demon King's power is the ability to adapt to anything and evolve past anything, even total annihilation," she explained. "It's with this power that he's been gradually overwhelming the seal on the realm."
She paused and her eyes glowed faintly. "But although at the level he's using it now, it's nothing close to his full power. Which means it must've taken him a considerable amount of time to adapt and evolve past my time field."
Then she turned to face Aiden directly. "Regardless, you should also be able to deal damage against the demon lord."
Their senses tingled again simultaneously and both dragons tensed.
"Here he comes," Cronyssia said sharply and they both shifted into battle-ready positions.
The Demon Lord floated back into the exact position he'd been sent away from and his lips split into a wide grin as he laughed maniacally.
"You were always the one to delay the inevitable, Cronyssia," Dravion said with that dual-layered voice that echoed across to them.
"A hundred years you've stood here and yet here I am again. So what are you going to do this time? Rewind me again? Send me back a few more minutes?" He spread his arms wide mockingly. "How many times will you repeat this before you realize it's pointless?"
Cronyssia knew the Demon King's power and understood that rewinding him repeatedly would only buy them temporary relief.
Perhaps if it was just Dravion alone, any one of her time skills could've ended their troubles permanently, but the Demon King was currently channeling his powers through the Demon Lord of The End.
And although it was nowhere close to the Demon King's full strength it would still be enough to help him adapt back to status quo or fend them against her skills continuously.
Which only left one option.
Hold against the demon lord until his body could no longer handle the strain of the Demon King's possession.
A grin spread across Cronyssia's face as she stared at Dravion.
"I wonder how long you'll be able to maintain your control over that body before it breaks," she said. "And I'm ready to keep going at it until your limit expires."
The grin vanished from Dravion's face instantly and he lunged forward at blinding speed toward them both.
A translucent screen appeared before Aiden's eyes:
[New Special Quest Assigned: Aid Cronyssia to Successfully Stop the Possessed Demon Lord]
"That was always the plan," Aiden muttered and flew back toward the demon lord with a roar preceding him.
Their fists collided in mid-air and the impact created a shockwave that spread outward in every direction and shook the ground beneath them.
A grin returned to Dravion's face as their fists remained locked together struggling for supremacy with neither giving ground.
"So this is the power of Thyrak's new vessel?" Dravion taunted and in that moment it started looking like Aiden was losing the contest of strength as his arm began trembling under the pressure.
"Pathetic," Dravion said coldly.
He had already adapted to Aiden's current level of physical strength and in that moment was evolving past it.
But in that same instant Cronyssia used her time authority once more on Dravion which instantly regressed his body into that of an infant demon child.
His form shrunk rapidly until he lost his footing entirely. Aiden seized the opportunity by grabbing the infant demon by the wrist and slamming him into the ground with enough force to create a massive crater that spread cracks across the earth.
While gripping onto Dravion's wrist Aiden activated his Fist of Destruction effect and channeled the authority directly into the demon's body.
When the dust cleared Dravion who had been turned into an infant cooing demon child had already grown back considerably to somewhere around six years of age.
And Dravion's hand that should've been completely disintegrated by the destruction skill at Deity++ level only showed visible cracks on his skin that were already patching themselves up as if the damage had never happened.
This was his power of adapting and evolving past any attack used against him.
Aiden's eyes widened at how little damage he'd actually done and he glanced toward Cronyssia who didn't look surprised at all. It was all within expectation.
Dravion started laughing as his form slowly grew back in age in an attempt for his body to fit back into his currently oversized clothing.
Aiden didn't want to give him time to recover further so he stretched his hand out toward Dravion and a black mass began forming in his palm before shooting forward.
The black hole expanded rapidly as it moved and everything around Dravion was pulled violently toward its center.
Rocks tore from the ground, dust and debris spiraled inward, and the air itself seemed to bend and twist as the gravitational pull intensified with terrifying force.
Dravion's body lifted off the ground and was dragged toward the black sphere along with everything else caught in its range.
The black hole consumed him entirely and crushed inward with pressure that should've obliterated anything caught within it, but when the spell dissipated moments later, Dravion stepped out completely unscathed.
He had adapted to the crushing force while inside and evolved past it before the spell could finish him off.
It had also been easier for him to adapt to Aiden's attacks since they weren't as strong as Cronyssia's.
Aiden leaped back toward Cronyssia immediately and whispered urgently. "This is insane. There's no beating him."
Cronyssia didn't look away from Dravion as she replied. "The whole point was never to beat him but to delay him until the demon lord's body wears out from the possession."
At that moment the variant acted again and rewound Dravion's time once more sending him back to a point several minutes ago before he'd even arrived.
Aiden immediately began charging white light between his palms as energy gathered and condensed into a sphere of pure destruction.
This was the Destruction Authority's Oblivion Beam and he held it ready in anticipation of Dravion's return.
This time Dravion returned at half the time he'd used to return the first time and his form appeared as a teenage demon though not yet fully grown back into his adult self.
This was part of how the Demon King's ability worked. Each time he evolved past a skill used against him, its next use would have less effect, and he would adapt faster each time, though it may still slow him briefly.
The very moment Dravion flew back in at high speed Aiden released the Oblivion Beam at full force toward the demon lord.
The white beam of destruction engulfed him completely and for a brief moment it seemed like he'd been obliterated entirely as his form disintegrated within the light, but when the beam faded his body began rooting back into shape as flesh and bone reconstructed themselves from nothing.
The battle continued relentlessly.
Cronyssia rewound or accelerated his time again and again while Aiden unleashed spell after spell. Fire magic, gravity manipulation, spatial severance, each attack hit its mark but Dravion kept adapting and evolving past them.
When Aiden used Genesis Zero to erase part of the battlefield along with Dravion. He regrew within seconds and the demon laughed.
When Cronyssia aged him forward into an ancient decrepit form, he reverted back a while after and his body had learned to adapt to the aging effect.
The cycle repeated over and over with both dragons throwing everything they had at him while Dravion continued to evolve and grow stronger with each passing moment.
Far behind them at the massive gate the original Cronyssia still stood with both hands stretched toward the chains holding the seal in place as waves of time-stopping energy poured continuously from her claws.
Her eyes remained focused on the lock even as the battle raged behind her but her thoughts reached outward beyond the demon realm and beyond the forsaken continent.
"Siblings," she whispered in her mind with urgency threading through every word. "If you can hear me, I need your help. The Fallen One is upon us."
