From the seven Bronze Rank fiends he killed just now and the many Iron Rank fiends he killed back in the valley, Ray received 7 low-level fiend cores and a hundred lowest-level fiend cores respectively.
Ray kept 50 lowest-level fiend cores and 3 low-level fiend cores. He gave the rest to Nameless, saying, "The extra is for helping me back then when I was surrounded by the Iron and Bronze Rankers of the Ash Legionaries."
He had desired to repay him since then. Now that he had repaid him, he felt a weight lift off of his shoulders.
Nameless revealed a satisfied smile.
"You know how to be grateful."
"Where are you going?" Ray asked as Nameless turned to leave. But the direction he was heading in wasn't the exit of the Slime Nest, but its depths.
Nameless stopped in his tracks. He didn't turn around. His back faced Ray as he replied in a calm and confident tone, but the words he uttered were so shocking they couldn't be less given weight than the thunderous rumbling of the sky.
"To seal the dimensional rift."
Ray's eyebrows lifted in surprise.
"Dimensional rifts can be sealed shut?"
Nameless nodded curtly, looking over his shoulder.
"There's a technique called Stitches. It uses soul power to create needles and threads with extreme healing effects. Their healing effects can close wounds on anybody, even the planet itself. The dimensional rifts are the wounds marking it. Thus, Stitches can be used to close gaps in space and heal the world, restoring it to its original state when it wasn't dotted by entrances to the homelands of the demonic creatures!" Nameless revealed.
Ray had always wondered what lay behind dimensional rifts, and now his question was answered!
'As expected of the legacy student of the Shattering Mother.' Ray thought, 'He knows things that aren't publicly known. The truth about the dimensional rift is interesting, to say the least, as interesting as knowing that behind the vortex lies the Tower of Enlightenment, a place full of challenges and treasures.'
Certain matters never left the noble circles. Thus, commoners that made up the vast majority of the population remained unaware of it.
These facts were mentioned in the Tales of the Dark Age and the History of the Leon Kingdom. These books were restricted to nobles. Commoners couldn't get them even if they had money. Selena gave it to Ray because he had brought her a great deal of business and she found him pleasant to the eye. Hunters were very rare; not every mortal had the gall to head out in the wilderness to make a fortune. Only some did, most of them were fools who had overestimated their capabilities. Such fools usually ended up dead. Only a few of them managed to make a name for themselves. Even then they faced the risk of becoming the target of some jealous and spoiled noble's envy and losing their wealth and life.
Anyways.
Ray hadn't had the time to thoroughly read the four books Selena had given him, so until now he was unaware that behind dimensional rifts rested the homelands of demonic creatures. Otherwise, things would have been different. He wouldn't have been so amazed by such simple facts.
He wasn't to be blamed. It was all Ashclaw's fault that he didn't get to finish those four books Selena had gifted him.
Fun fact, if he hadn't schemed against him, the Metal Slime King wouldn't have ended up in Ray's possession!
As for why Ray believed Nameless was the Shattering Mother's legacy student, it was simple to explain.
Legacy students were those who were taught the ultimate techniques of their teachers.
The Shattering Finger was the Shattering Mother's signature move. Since she had taught Nameless that, what could he be if not her legacy student?
"Whoever created Stitches must be a renowned genius," Ray praised sincerely. The ability to heal a person's wounds was simple. But the ability to heal the world's wounds? Now that was something else!
"My father is more than just world famous," Nameless internally throught, 'He is the sturdiest wall standing between the extinction and survival of the human race.'
"Your father?" Ray felt curious. "Who is he?"
"Guess," Nameless said with a sleazy smile.
"Not guessing." Ray waved his hands, "I am not guessing."
"Then you are going to remain in the dark because I am not going to tell you," Nameless laughed while going away.
Ray chased after him. "Do you know where the Slime Nest's dimensional rift is?"
Nameless shook his head. "I don't."
"Are you planning to roam blindly until you find it?" Ray asked.
"That's the plan."
Nameless nodded at Ray's words.
"Why? Do you have a better way?"
In response, Ray nodded.
He had a map that could show his surrounding terrains.
Using it, they easily found the Slime Nest's dimensional rift.
Vroom!
The two stood before a gaping black hole before Nameless pulled out a shrieking lantern.
On its surface, countless terrified faces were drawn.
Each face represented a captured and tormented soul.
Nameless was good to his people, but cruel to anyone he saw as an enemy. He wouldn't even spare their souls if it could benefit him.
The expressions on those faces twisted even further as Nameless burned them to soul power using the lantern's flame. The soul power produced this way was used to power up Stitches and seal the dimensional rift.
Ray watched in amazement as, under Nameless's extremely dexterous hands, needles with pale white threads crisscrossed the dimensional rift, pulling it closer and closer until it was like a thin slit in space. Nameless gave the needles one final tug and even that tiny gap closed.
"It's done," Nameless said, his hair was damp and sweat dripped down his brow. His back was also drenched.
"It seems like using Stitches tires you out," Ray said.
"You got that right." Nameless explained, "Stitches strains you both mentally and physically. The more you use it, the closer you will get to collapsing."
