After a moment of silence, Nameless spoke, "Wondering how to use it?"
"Yeah," Ray said.
"It's the shadow piece of the Sun and Shadow Earrings. Just speak into it, and your words will transmit instantly to my Sun Piece. I can do the same thing with my Sun Piece. By speaking into it, I can transmit my words directly to you.
"When a thread of blue appears in these earrings, it means there's an unread message. Messages can be heard by double tapping the earrings," Namless explained thoroughly.
"Any limitations?" Ray asked curiously.
Nameless nodded seamlessly.
He then listed out the limitation of the long distance communication device carefully.
Ray heard his words intently and came to the following realizations.
Firstly, the earrings wouldn't function properly if they weren't on the same planet.
The same problem would occur if they were separated by a barrier.
For example, if he were inside a dungeon while Namless was outside of it, they wouldn't be able to communicate using the Sun and Shadow Earrings.
"There's something else I want to know." Ray said, "Your eye technique that can read others like a book... how did you get it?"
"It's called the Sage's eyes. I got it from the Tower of Enlightment," Namless replied.
"I am really curious about it," Ray said.
"The Tower is divided into many floors. Each floor is a world of its own. There are trials to conquer in each world. The more you complete, the more points you earn. Those points can be exchanged for rewards.
"I used mine to patch up the areas where I was lacking, you should do the same when you make it there. Don't waste them on consumables or fancy items that you believe won't be useable for long. Or you will regret it. That's the worst mistake newcomers make.
"Each world is connected by world bridges, allowing you to move between floors. You have to find them on your own to climb the tower. The higher up you go, the better."
Namless rewarded Ray's curiosity with an hefty answer.
"How safe is it for me?" Ray questioned.
"You are a bronze ranker with immense strength. With a bit more improvement, you can be compared to the experts of the bronze list that lists the strongest 100 bronze rankers of the kingdom. Each of them is an experts with the potential to climb the first few floors of the tower," Nameless answered.
"Only the potential?" Ray raised an eyebrow.
Namless smirked, "Unexpected things can happen in the tower. It's as dangerous as the wilderness. You can die for the most ridiculous reason in a trial. Strength along isn't enough. You also need to be sharp, attentive, scheming, and lucky to climb the tower."
He added, "The entrances to the Towers are monopolized by big guilds and powerful families. Without joining them, getting inside is nearly impossible. Still, you don't need to worry. Once I reclaim my position as Crown Prince, I'll give you access to a Tower entrance controlled by the royal family."
Nameless spoke with absolute confidence. He fully intended to take back what the Grand Invigilator had stolen from him.
His conviction wasn't backed by facts.
It was pure belief.
After all, if he didn't believe in himself, how could he ever succeed?
Ray internally smiled wryly, not letting his true emotions show.
He already had access to the tower. He didn't want to reveal it though.
'After I kill Ashclaw, I will go climb the tower,' Ray thought to himself.
That night Nameless slept better than he had in years.
Maybe it was the relief of finally knowing he had the ability to live up to his name that allowed him to sink into such a deep sleep that ahe didn't even notice when Ray left.
Nameless tensed up as soon as he woke.
Slimes, big and small, surrounded him. Surprisingly, none of them attacked, as if they had been ordered not to.
His tension waned when he realized Ray had left only after ensuring his safety. He left these slimes here to ensure he won't be caught off guard in his sleep.
As Namless looked around, he noticed the words carved on the dirt.
"Good luck, future Crown Prince! I pray for your success. When you succeed, slap the Grand Invigilator for me. You aren't the only one he wronged with his dirty schemes."
Ray had also been hurt by the Grand Invigilator.
If the Grand Invigilator hadn't fooled the world into believing the blank seal was useless with his terrifying ability to mess with divination and hide the truth, Ray wouldn't have been mistaken for a trash. He would've been taken for the genius he was. His status would have surged and the revenge on Ashclaw would have been immediate.
Ray seriously hated the Grand Invigilator for messing with his fate.
Nameless chuckled under his breath, then whispered,
"I will do my best, Yar."
Ray wasn't bound to him by blood, but the favor he had done him was beyond compare.
Nameless wanted to bring him to the Royal Palace as it was safest place in the world.
Even a Fateless might not die prematurely there.
However.
Only after he had exposed the Grand Invigilator's treachery and reclaimed his rightful place as Crown Prince would he hold true weight.
Only then would he be able to provide such help to Ray.
"The next time we meet," Nameless vowed, "I will convey my gratitude properly."
********
"It's still here. Hahahaha!"
A wave of laughter burst from Ray's mouth when he saw Torvin's corpse in the underwater cave. He had been worried that a demonic creature would find its way into the cave, attracted by the smell of the corpse, and eat it. Thankfully, what he was worrying about didn't come true.
Torvin's corpse was in bad shape, already rotting and emitting a putrid stench that was hard to bear, but Ray controlled the urge to vomit, looking at it with loving eyes as if he was seeing an unguarded treasure trove!
"This opens doors to countless possibilities!"
Torvin's corpse might seem useless, but to him—who could use the Devour and Mimic skills—it was the key to accomplishing his new goal: taking revenge and killing Ashclaw!
When he tamed the Metal King Slime, the system had unlocked new functions.
The skill-sharing function granted him the right to use the skills of his battle companions.
Thus, he could use all of the Metal King Slime's abilities.
The Devour skill would grant him Torvin's memories.
Torvin was Ashclaw's most talented son, his successor!
Who would know Ashclaw better than him?
Ray refused to believe he wouldn't discover Ashclaw's flaws and trump cards by using Devour on Torvin.
Similarly.
The Mimic skill would allow him to get close to Ashclaw without raising his vigilance.
It was the best tool for fooling the world and carrying out assassinations.
He didn't hesitate.
Looking at Torvin's corpse, he reached out.
"Devour!"
His hand warped into a massive gelatinous maw.
A slimy tongue shot out, coiling around the corpse before yanking it into the gaping mouth.
It snapped shut right after.
Crunch! Crunch!
Some disturbing noises rang out.
Taking the context into account, it would disturb any person.
Ray, however, simply closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
When he opened them again, not a ripple could be seen within, revealing he was strangely calm despite having eaten a human corpse like a demonic creature.
He was not the textbook example of a good and righteous fool who would let morals and empty words stop him from doing what was necessary. He was also not like other villains.
To kill his enemies as quickly as possible, he would utilize anything at his disposal.
From his looks, his innocence, his skills and abilities, to his wit and cunning. Anything that could give him an edge over his enemies, he would utilize without hesitation to finish them quicker!
At the same time, he wouldn't hesitate to return gratitude in full.
A helping hand would be repaid tenfold.
A kindness shown would never be forgotten, even if he had to wade through blood and fire to honor it!
This was a duality unique to Ray as he saw the world through his own lens, never allowing someone else's laws and rules to dictate how he should live his life.
♦️ You have used [Devour] on Torvin!
♦️ The skill [Devour] was successful!
His hand returned to normal, and then it happened!
