Like a serpentine beast sculpted from a molten pot of gold and emerald, the thing of blood and sun rose out of Memory, quickly taking its form as an Azure Dragon blood beast.
Alex stared at the form of the beast before him, very much excited to see not only its physical form, but also to feel the aura of its strength.
Divine Creation 3rd realm.
Alex couldn't believe that the beast before him was so strong, but then it had to be. It had come from his own blood after all.
The beast circled the room once before settling down before Alex.
Alex looked at it, the scarlet scales, the horn made of sunlight, alternating scales of red and yellow. The blood beast was indeed an incredible sight.
"How do you feel?" Alex asked the beast.
"Incredible, master. As though I have never lived before," the beast answered.
Alex frowned slightly. "Do not call me master again. Ever. Call me Alex."
The dragon didn't question and only nodded. Obedience was drilled into every blood beast's body from birth.
"Now, tell me, do you remember your name?"
"I do. I am Qing Tianchui," the beast answered.
"What is the last thing you remember?"
The dragon narrowed his eyes for a moment. "I was fighting, protecting something, something very important to me. My wife and my son."
"What is your son?" Alex asked.
"My life's greatest achievement," the dragon said proudly.
Alex couldn't help but smile. "I meant, what type of beast is your son?"
"A son of a White Tiger and an Azure Dragon. Someone that carries the bloodline of both me and Meiyoung. He will no doubt become both with given time."
Alex could tell that Pearl's father had a lot more memories within him than most of the other blood beasts he had created. He wondered if it was due to the relatively short time since his death.
He asked a few more questions, mostly attempting to see the degree of memories he held. After a while, it became obvious that the further back they went, the fewer memories he had.
Only the more recent memories were fresh in his mind. The beast had trouble even remembering his mother, let alone facts from his young life. In a way, that worked perfectly for Alex.
He wanted nothing more.
"Come. I need you to meet someone."
When Alex left his room, Pearl walked out as well.
"Brother? What's going on? Why did you—"
Pearl's words turned into a lump in his throat, impossible to swallow. He stared at the dragon that flew next to Alex, his breathing caught in an uneven gasp.
He stared at the dragon, and the dragon stared at him.
"Who… what are you?" the dragon asked, its emotions in shambles as well.
"I'm Shouchuang. Qing Shouchuang," Pearl said, barely managing to get his voice out. "Are… are you my father?"
"Shouchuang! Is it you? Is it really you?"
"Father?"
"Son!"
"Father!"
They jumped into each other's embrace, hugging as they both started crying.
Bai Jingshen walked out of the room, a little surprised himself that Alex had already given life to Pearl's father. He looked toward Alex for a moment and gave a genuine smile.
"I'm sorry, Shouchuang. I missed all of your younger years. Forgive me," the dragon said as he stepped away from Pearl.
Pearl reached forward. "You died, father. You died protecting me. Why would I ever need to forgive you? You haven't done anything wrong at all."
Qing Tianchui smiled a bit. "Where's your mother?"
Pearl's expression dowered. "Mother died, the same time as you."
The dragon's face fell. "What?"
"Much has happened since you died, father," Pearl said in a somber tone. "There is a lot you have to catch up on. Please, come with me."
Pearl took his father to the other room, the dragon walking away without any attention to the world around him.
Bai Jingshen watched the beast enter the room without turning to look at him once. There was an absent look upon him that only came from a being who knew he had lost things.
He turned toward Alex and walked over.
"So you did it," he said. "Took you not that long to do."
"I hurried," Alex said. "Should I have warned him first? I got so caught up in it that I didn't stop to think that I should maybe have him be ready."
Bai Jingshen shook his head. "I don't think you can ever prepare for something like this," he said, turning toward the room where the father and son had gone into. "Is he well?"
"Pearl's father? Well enough. He remembers a lot about the recent years, but not so much about the older ones. He barely even remembers that he was chosen to go down to the lower realm at all."
"I see. No wonder he didn't recognize me," Bai Jingshen said. "What is going on with the yellow on his body? I thought these beasts were made with blood."
"There's a Sunheart involved with these," Alex said. "The thing we found in Hell."
"Ah!"
Bai Jingshen had been told about it a while ago. "So, is he ready to do it? Can he even?"
Alex gave a confused look before realizing what he was talking about. "Evolution? I'm not sure. We first need to make sure the souls even match. I haven't told him about what his upcoming task could be. I'm letting Pearl have a father that is a father and not a tool for now."
Bai Jingshen smiled lightly. "Still, we have to prepare."
"We should," Alex said. "Can you help me find an artifact that can help us test their closeness?"
"I know where I can find one," Bai Jingshen said. "I'll have one of my wives bring it over."
Alex nodded. "I don't want to leave Pearl with a decision hovering over every moment with his father if he doesn't have to," he said. "If it turns out that their souls match, then that's fine. But if it doesn't, I want Pearl to be without the burden of choice."
