"Just so I'm not mistaken somewhere, we only need a soul, right?"

That was Bai Jingshen's question.

Alex was taken aback for a moment. "Not just any soul," he quickly explained, but he shouldn't have. Bai Jingshen already knew that. But then what was that question?

Bai Jingshen nodded as if expecting that answer. "Then all we need is a single soul," he said, seemingly falling into contemplation. "This isn't meant to be used this way, but what choice do I have now?"

Alex was about to ask what the White Tiger was talking about when Bai Jingshen lifted his left limb and touched his earring. A sonorous ringing filled the air instantly as the golden earring glowed with a bright light.

Alex stepped back, wondering what new miracle Bai Jingshen was attempting to perform this time with his earring. Hope blossomed within him.

Something grew from the earring, from the light. It became larger and larger, until it took the shape of a soft-blue translucent human. A soul.

Alex's face fell, his hopes thrashed like a body caught in a riptide. If this was what Bai Jingshen was talking about, then it wouldn't help. This soul—

Alex paused. He took a closer look at the soul, just now realizing that he recognized this human. Wasn't this… Long Tiankong, the Dragon Emperor?

Did Bai Jingshen think that because the Dragon Emperor had a partial bloodline of the Azure Dragon that—

"Save me!" the Dragon Emperor shouted, his words carrying the misery that came from an eternal torture. "Kill me. Let me die."

Alex's eyes widened in shock at that moment, only now remembering an event from long past that he had more or less gotten off his mind.

It was after the Dragon Emperor had been killed, his bisected corpse taken to Bai Jingshen as proof.

Then I cannot have him die just like that, Bai Jingshen had said back then, using his earring to create this spiritual doppelganger of what used to be the Dragon Emperor.

An eternity of torture will not be enough for the man who killed my daughter and granddaughter.

Alex could only watch in disbelief as he realized that Bai Jingshen hadn't lied. He had stuck to his words, torturing the remnant of the Dragon Emperor's soul for what he had done to Pearl's mother and grandmother all those years ago.

"Please!" The Dragon Emperor's plea brought Alex back to the present. "Kill m—"

Bai Jingshen's claws pierced through the translucent body of the Dragon Emperor, giving him the release he had desired for so long. And even then, it came with a scream.

When the scream subsided, Bai Jingshen stood from where he sat, one of his earrings already floating before him.

"It's a shame I can only save one soul at any given time."

A kaleidoscope of energy assaulted Alex's vision as aura poured out of the earring. Red, blue, green, gold, brown, yellow, black, silver, purple, and every other color were present in the energy that poured out of the earring, all of it targeted at the dying Qing Tianchui.

Alex finally understood what the beast was planning to do. And he wasn't sure if it would work or not. So, all he could do was sit and watch.

The energy consumed Qing Tianchui and Qing Tianchui consumed the energy.

Soul Confluence stopped, but it ending momentarily would not factor in much with Pearl's current state. He had been in pain long before and he would be in pain long after.

Bai Jingshen grabbed the earring in midair and used it. Instantly, the tumultuous energy shrunk inside the blood beast, and from it something was pulled out.

Blood splattered onto the ground, yang energy escaping everywhere else as the spirit that bound the two together was suddenly no more. The light that came out of it took shape, going from bright white to a soft-blue as it grew, becoming larger and larger until it became a massive Azure Dragon.

Qing Tianchui opened his eyes, staring down at his new body. Or rather, the lack of body.

"What… what happened?" he asked, failing to comprehend the situation.

Bai Jingshen placed his earring back on his ear and looked up at the beast. "You were given a second chance to save your son. Do it."

Qing Tianchui needed no second word. Immediately, he focused his attention on Pearl, Soul Confluence appearing out of instinct. It landed on Pearl, resuming his aid in improving his soul once again.

Whisker gasped lightly. "It's better!" he said. "It's much better."

Alex sensed at the same time too, his eyes now growing wide in amazement.

"Resonance!" he said with disbelief. "That's perfect Soul Confluence."

All that was needed was for the Azure Dragon to not be made out of blood and sun, but rather pure spiritual energy, or whatever it was inside Bai Jingshen's earring.

Alex walked over to him, asking about the energy.

"I don't know what it is. I just know that it takes centuries to gather," he explained. "As you saw, it can give life to any soul, improving them further."

Alex nodded. "Could I see the energy inside?" he asked. There was a consideration in his mind to do something out of this for his Creation.

"I can't."

Bai Jingshen's words ruined his idea.

"Why?" Alex asked.

"Because it takes centuries to gather the energy. It won't be usable for at least 2 centuries. It's a life-saving treasure, meant for the ones that I must save," he said. "And yet, the first time I used it was to form the soul of the one I hate the most. And the second time to give a few more hours to the dying soul of a dragon."

Alex's head turned in a snap. "He's still dying?"

Bai Jingshen nodded. "I only managed to give him a small burst of energy. That won't be enough to save him at all," he said, but he didn't sound disappointed. His eyes turned to Pearl, the one he truly cared about here. "Thankfully, that appears to be enough."
