Pearl remembered the last thing he had noticed when he stared at the maelstrom that formed above the teleportation formation. The massive maelstrom was normal at first, barely any different from the ones he had seen before.
But right at the end, there was a burst of color that shouldn't have been there.
Having received his new bloodline, Pearl's spatial sense had become much stronger than before, allowing him to sense the distortion that came at the last moment.
While others saw nothing but a malfunctioning maelstrom, he saw the reason behind the malfunction. Something had individualized the spatial maelstrom, causing it to land on each person that stood there, instead of them as a whole.
So, when they were teleported, they were teleported individually.
Pearl had tried to fight it, to grab the others using his spatial aura, but he wasn't sure if he succeeded or not. He couldn't see anyone at least, or sense anyone for that matter either.
Pearl then realized he couldn't feel anything. There was no sensation of touch at all, or sound. He blinked in confusion. Something was wrong.
He tried to focus his attention on finding out what had happened after he was teleported. Could he really not see anything? Could he really not feel anything?
No, he could feel something. What was this feeling again? Was it… weightlessness?
He could see something too, just pinpricks of light far in the distance, like someone lit a bunch of candles at the other shore of a river.
'Are those… stars?'
Pearl's eyes widened, energy filling his body. 'Am I in space?'
He moved his body to the left and was immediately assaulted by the bright sunlight. The burning white sun struck at him with no filter. Only then did Pearl realize that his Qi was being consumed at a rather quick rate.
Pearl quickly turned away from the sun and looked in the other direction. Staring back at him in this direction was the massive barren land that floated listlessly in space.
'Is that the Sun's Talon realm?' Pearl thought with a confused look. 'Why does it look more like Hell?'
He had no answer. At any rate, he first needed to get the hell out of space and head back into the realm. He couldn't fight the sun for too long just as he was.
Pearl moved through space, reaching a speed that he had never reached before. Without the interference that usually persisted within the realm, there was nothing to stop Pearl's speed.
Pearl felt the sun strike at him, chewing on his Qi. At the rate it was going, he was worried he wouldn't have enough Qi left by the time he got down to the realm.
He could last maybe another half a day with the Qi he had, more if he regulated the amount. But it would take much longer to reach the realm considering how high up he must be.
'What happened to the teleportation formation? Why did it act wrong?'
Pearl continued flying back toward the Sun's Talon realm, gaining distance ever so quickly. It was hard to judge distance from where he was, especially considering he didn't know how large the Sun's Talon realm was.
All he could do was keep on flying down. At about 3 hours into his flight, the realm filled half his field of vision, allowing him to see everything much more clearly.
It was then that Pearl realized that something was wrong. This world was way too barren to be lived in. And there was no water at all.
'Didn't grandpa say it was a single continent surrounded by ocean?' he thought. 'Where is the water? Even Hell was water.'
Pearl suddenly stopped flying down, realizing the critical mistake he had made.
'Shit!' he thought. 'This isn't the actual realm, is it? It's the back of the realm. There is no atmosphere here.'
There would be no protection from the sun there, except for in the shadows. Pearl couldn't stay there at all. He needed to head for the actual realm, which would be on the other side.
At the speed he was flying and the Qi that was being cut through, Pearl had one of two choices now.
He could either go for the other side of the realm where there was an atmosphere, or he could head straight down to the barren side of the realm.
The side with the atmosphere would take him longer to reach, and Pearl wasn't sure if he had enough Qi to reach it.
The side without the atmosphere would be nearly a third shorter than the other side, and thus safer as he could hide in the shadows and wait.
After a thought, he looked at the side of the land that was turning. Since the lower side of the realm was facing the sun, it was nighttime on the other side. And considering its slow turn, if he headed in the direction where morning would come first, the distance would be shorter too.
'Even as I approach it, the world will have already turned toward me, so it isn't that much further away than the safer option, right?' he thought.
The sun was eating away at his Qi even as he stopped to consider it all.
"Screw it!" Pearl told himself. "I can head toward the realm itself. Even if my speed won't allow me to reach it, that is not all that I have."
With the Azure Dragon's bloodline, Pearl could now teleport at a distance that was pretty much impossible without a teleportation formation. And because of how easy it was, he could continuously teleport over and over in succession before he had to stop.
It was more Qi efficient than flying too, which made it a better choice in this instance.
Pearl activated his technique, ready to teleport, and was suddenly slammed with a powerful aura that burned into his spiritual sea and knocked him out unconscious.
He didn't even have the chance to protect himself.
