Scarlet was naught but a floating body in the vastness of space. When she gathered herself after the botched teleportation attempt, she found herself nowhere near any realm.
Panic filled her instantly, worrying her about where she had come. The last thing she remembered before the teleportation happened was some aura catching onto her. And at the next moment, she was far out in space.
Anyone else in her state would have been in a life-or-death situation, but fortunately for Scarlet, she was a Vermilion Bird. Even out in space, where she was not under the protection of a realm's atmosphere, the sun could not kill her.
It could harm her. She was constantly burned by the sun's destructive aura when not using her Qi, but at the same time, sunlight also healed a Vermilion Bird, resulting in the overall state of her body remaining the same.
That was not to say that staying out there wasn't painful, so she needed to gain some shade very soon, or start using her Qi to protect herself. She hoped to find shade instead.
If she was truly somewhere far away from any realms, then she needed to save her Qi.
Scarlet didn't even want to think about where she was at the moment. Just the thought of being stranded out in the middle of nowhere scared her. But what else could she do at this point?
'Calm down, Nuanhuo. Calm down and look around. Search for bright spots in the darkness. Those will be the places you'll have to go to,' she told herself and started searching through the darkness.
It wasn't long before she found the brightest object far in the distance that could be a world. She had no choice but to move toward it in the hope that she was right.
She flew through space, preserving her Qi. Her Qi was being consumed at a very weak rate, mostly in replacement for the air she breathed, so she could continue for days if she needed to.
Still, getting out of the sun soon was a good idea.
Around two hours in, she could see the shape of the land she was heading toward. Around three hours in, she could see that it was indeed a realm.
Around five hours in, she finally saw the massive shape of the realm she was heading toward, the world half-tilted toward her, allowing her to see the bubble on the other side that was the atmosphere.
That was her destination, so she flew toward it.
Scarlet headed directly for where she thought the world would be when it turned around. She was on her way there mindlessly when something caught her eye in the darkness of the sky.
Something tiny, like a speck of dirt flying in a ray of light, was far off from her. Scarlet wasn't even sure why her vision had gone in that direction, but it had. And as she watched, her eyes focused on the tiny speck, seeing it for what it was.
Her eyes widened slightly. That looked like a white beast, a cat even. Was that… Pearl?
She moved toward his direction, her spiritual sense spreading out of her to catch up to him. As she did, Scarlet quickly realized something that she hadn't noticed just yet.
There was something suppressing her spiritual sense by a certain degree. It was a weak suppression, barely forcing her spiritual sense to be nine-tenth of what it normally was, but that presence alone confused her.
Outside of heaven, out in the middle of space, there was supposed to be no such restrictions. So why was she feeling this?
She continued moving toward Pearl. When her senses finally reached him, she was about to call out to him when she froze.
Pearl's body was actively burning in the direct sun, his Qi doing little to stop most of it. Scarlet immediately sped up, crossing the distance as quickly as she could, arriving before Pearl.
She called out to him, but Pearl couldn't hear her at all. He was unconscious. She panicked a little, immediately bringing out her phoenix flames to cover him up.
Pearl's body was quite badly wounded after being exposed to the sun for who knew how long. His fur was mostly gone, his scales also burning away. Qi seeped through his body even in his unconscious state, but it couldn't protect him as well as it should have.
When he was finally surrounded by the phoenix flames, Pearl healed at a visible rate, his scales and fur returning. His breathing turned normal, at which point Scarlet finally relaxed.
Her own body was now exposed, but she hardly cared about it. After thinking for a moment, she brought out her ship and got inside. The ship's defenses activated, blocking the sun's destructive aura from them.
The ship moved, heading down toward the spinning realm, moving toward the bubble up top that was now visible.
The ship's defenses were being eroded at a rapid rate because of the sun, so Scarlet spread her phoenix flames, covering the entire ship. Phoenix flames were the most Qi-effective thing in the entire world to be used as defense against the sun, even more so than the highest-grade Transmigration clouds.
The only issue was that a phoenix had to actively keep the phoenix flames working, which Scarlet was okay with since the remaining distance wasn't that far off.
She looked toward Pearl again, confused about why he was unconscious. She could ask him once he woke up. For now, she was just happy that she got to him in time.
Another hour passed before they finally reached the realm itself. As she passed through the atmosphere, she finally let go of her flames, relaxing far more.
She looked at where she had arrived, an endless ocean of blue, and knew she needed to head inland. But at least, there was no more danger from the sun.
She finally brought out a talisman from her Soul Space, calling out to Alex. To her surprise, he answered immediately.
