The starting island came around once every few days. There was no schedule, so people just had to wait for it on their own time. Pearl and Scarlet needed to cultivate beforehand, so they entered Alex's Soul Space and entered the time chambers to quickly recover as much Qi as they could.
They knew they could just use this method to continue cultivating, but at this point it wasn't even certain if they could do that when they were inside. So they had to be as prepared as they could.
After just half a day, or 2 weeks of cultivation for the two, they came out ready. With Alex, they waited by the shore along with hundreds of other beasts that were vying to enter the island, not a single one weaker than the Immortal realm.
"Are you certain there are no fighting trials?" Alex asked the old beast who was still aiding them as a guide.
"Not a single island that has been visited has had the participants fight among each other. It's all about them surviving the environment," the beast said.
Alex nodded, but he still didn't fully trust the old beast's words. Not because he was untrustworthy, but because his knowledge was second-hand. He hadn't entered, so his authority on this subject matter just wasn't as reliable.
"What's the highest record?" Alex asked. "On that matter, what sort of rewards are they receiving?"
"The highest record is 8 islands," an unfamiliar voice answered.
Alex and the rest turned, staring at a newcomer that was approaching them. A long-armed monkey with blue and black fur, with a white mane, approached the group. It stood on two legs, its size reaching nearly twice as tall as Alex.
Alex stared at the monkey for a long moment, checking on the unfamiliar beast. The monkey was a Divine realm beast, and if Alex wasn't wrong, it was a new Divinity.
The monkey turned toward Bai Jingshen, a small smile forming on its lips. "I was worried this would be far too boring, but it seems I have competition now. It would be fun to test myself against a White Tiger."
Bai Jingshen stared at the monkey for a few long seconds. "Are you a member of the Wu family?" he asked.
The monkey smiled. "How great of a mighty White Tiger to remember a lowly family like ours. I am Wu Tanglan."
Bai Jingshen snorted. "Your fake flattery will do you no good with me," he said. "As for being your competition, I'm not going. But if you want competition, these few can give it to you."
The monkey looked down. It didn't recognize Pearl as a White Tiger, completely glancing over him, before its eyes turned toward Scarlet.
"A Vermilion Bird too, huh? It appears the Land of the Blessed Sun has learned about the trials as well. Will more be coming? I would like to test myself against someone with a higher cultivation base, if that's alright with you all."
"We are here by accident," Scarlet said. "If you wish to test yourself against someone stronger, I'm afraid you'll have to wait."
The monkey giggled. "That's fine. I don't need competition to bring out the best in me. I'm diligent enough."
"Did you say the furthest one has been is 8 islands?" Alex asked. "Are you certain?"
The monkey scoffed. "Of course I'm certain. It's me who did it."
Alex paused. "You did? And you're trying to go again? I thought that wasn't allowed."
"Not from the same entrance. But you can go over to the other three tips if you fail. That way, you can take the trial up to 4 times."
"Is that so?" Alex said. He was about to ask about the reward the monkey had received when the monkey shook its head.
"Seems like I'm wasting my time here. I shall leave."
It walked away.
Alex watched the retreating figure of the monkey, unsure what to say. After a while, he turned toward Bai Jingshen, hoping to learn more.
"You know him?" he asked.
"I know of his family," Bai Jingshen said. "He's a member of the Wu family, Whitehead Monkeys that are said to be descendants of the Headless Immortal, the Primordial."
Alex's eyes slowly widened. A beast family that descended from a primordial would make them quite strong. "And they're not from the Land of the Blessed Sun, are they? He didn't sound like a resident of that realm."
"No," Bai Jingshen said. "The Twin Scar realm has 2 continents, each with a massive scar not unlike what the Talon used to be in this realm. The Wu family are the Rulers of the Second Scar."
"That monkey is royalty?" Pearl asked.
"Pretty much. He may even be a prince from one of the main lines, who knows?" Bai Jingshen said. "Their family rose a long time ago, and managed to even overthrow the previous royal family to take over the Second Scar. Those are some nasty monkeys."
Alex turned to look at the already disappeared figure of Wu Tanglan. He hadn't expected to meet a member from one of the royal families of the Twin Scar realm while he was in the Sun's Talon realm.
He was lost in this thought for a bit when the crowd erupted with noise, everyone growing active.
Alex turned toward the sea of lava and saw the approaching figure of a massive island.
As the island came into view, Alex saw the figure of the island that somehow floated atop the lava, with green grass swaying atop it. It made no sense for the island to have plants, but things were far too bizarre for Alex to give it much mind anymore.
It slowly approached the coast, many figures atop it looking weak and defeated. A few were even being carried by some other friends.
Once the island landed, the defeated atop it got off, allowing for the participants waiting to climb onto it.
Alex turned to Bai Jingshen. "This is it then. We'll see you soon."
Bai Jingshen nodded. "Good luck."
