Alex could now understand why the aura on one of the empty lands was blue. The Flying Raindragon was a beast known for its control of storms. As for the Midnight Phoenix, Alex only knew about its Midnight Flames, which were said to be one of the strongest flames out there.
"There are three Primordials in one place?" Alex asked. "That's one-fifth of your entire group, right? What exactly are you doing here?"
The Three-Legged Crow stood a little straighter. "It was my duty to look after this place and prepare the next coming of the Sun God and the Moon Goddess. I waited while I prepared the trials, and when I noticed the first of you, I let the trials begin."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "What would've happened if only one of us was here?"
"Then it would've continued for years, as long as it was needed for the other one to arrive."
"Are you willing to waste your time that way?" Shumi asked. "Not just time, resources too."
"I do what is my duty," the crow said.
"And what happens when the resources run out?" Shumi asked.
"I wouldn't know. I would just continue for as long as I was needed to," he said. "That being said, it is unlikely that the resources would've disappeared any time soon. I have plenty to work with."
Alex looked around. "What resources? The place looks barren if you ask me."
"This region isn't the only place I have under control," the crow said. "When I first stepped on this land, I marked my region atop it with a single step. Everything within that step is under my control right now."
"The mark?" Alex asked before his eyes slowly widened in shock. "You… you made the Talon scar on this realm with a single step?"
The crow proudly nodded.
Both Alex and Shumi were flabbergasted. They could not imagine anyone out there right now that could possibly put a permanent scar on top of a realm that was so very wide.
"If you are surprised by that, then you do not understand our capabilities," the crow said.
Alex couldn't help but wonder what a true Primordial could do.
"What resources do you have, senior?" Shumi asked. "Are there some Celestial spirit veins that you have hidden within this place? Considering the speed at which those spirit veins are deteriorating, it will likely not last for that long."
"No," the crow said. "I have many spirit veins under me, but that is not the resource I was talking about."
He gestured behind him to the two locations where the Flying Raindragon's and the Midnight Phoenix's graves were.
"My two brethren gave up their physical bodies and spirits when we buried our parents here," the crow said. "The essence that was left behind after their deaths takes a long time to break down. Even now, over half of it is available and not yet converted fully into Celestial Qi. That is why I say that it will take a long time for me to run out of resources."
Alex's eyes widened in shock. "Two Primordials sacrificed themselves?"
The crow nodded. "They weren't the only ones. I sacrificed myself as well. My body is dead, and my core is gone, converted into this spirit you are talking to. I survive now because of the leftover energy from the two who died."
Shumi looked horrified. "All for this trial? For us?"
The crow shook his head. "Not for any single person or beast. It was done for the sake of the whole world," he said. "Do not let us down."
The crow moved to the side, making way for Alex and Shumi to walk up to the top of the hill.
Alex gulped a little, his heart beating stronger and stronger.
"Everyone but the two of you must remain behind," the crow suddenly said, and only then did Shumi remember that Whisker was still clinging to them, listening to everything.
"Will he be safe?" Alex asked.
"You brought him here, so I expect you to have made the right decision in doing so. As such, he will not be hurt or sent out," the crow said.
Alex nodded. He still had so many things running through his mind, but he couldn't delay it any longer. He needed to go and see what was left behind.
Alex could fly now, not that he wanted to. For some reason, he wanted to take his time and walk up to the top. His spiritual sense was still in a state of disarray, but considering two Primordials' essence was still clouding this place, he could understand why that was.
He took a deep breath, preparing himself. He turned around and saw Shumi in a similar state of nervousness. Without even thinking, he put his hand forward.
Shumi looked at it for a moment and grabbed it with her left hand. Then, together, they stepped forward.
Hand in hand, Alex and Shumi began walking from the very base of the hill. They stepped over soft green grass, walking past the flowers. As they passed by, Alex could see the two graves much clearer now.
The corpses of the beasts must've been large for the graves to be so wide. Well, they were Primordials.
As Alex continued walking in silence, Pearl and Scarlet began asking about the situation outside. Only then did Alex even remember to explain everything.
The two beasts were shocked by the information and went quiet for some time.
And then, Alex and Shumi arrived before the massive fire wall. The wall extended at least 50 meters in a circular formation, fully yellow. It was almost lacking in aura, but that only made Alex realize that he was just too weak to sense the aura.
Only then did Alex remember the piece of information about the Three-Legged Crow that was perhaps the most important part about it.
The Three-Legged Crow, also known as the Sun Crow or Golden Crow, was the owner of the strongest Yang flame in all of existence.
As such, Alex realized what this flame, and all the yellow flames that he had seen throughout the trial, was.
"Sun Fire."
