Pick Up a Killer as Girlfriend

Chapter 21 Xiaofan Appears

"Since Mr. Liu also thinks there's some sense in what Mr. Zhang said, do you think we can settle this marriage?"

As Zhang Yongchang finished speaking, everyone's expressions changed abruptly.

Zhang Qiang was naturally overjoyed; looking at the beautiful and pure Liu Siyan, he had long wanted to take this beauty home.

However, Liu Zhenghua looked embarrassed. He had only meant to compliment the other party casually, not expecting them to seize on it as a breakthrough.

The person looking the most uncomfortable was undoubtedly Liu Siyan. She looked at her father in panic; if he truly agreed, she wouldn't agree to this marriage proposal even if she had to run away from home.

"Oh, I do think Qiangzi is a good kid, but in this day and age, marriage is not up to us elders anymore. They have their own plans, and I need to hear Siyan's opinion." Liu Zhenghua was helpless. After all, he couldn't just casually determine his daughter's happiness.

Liu Siyan was, of course, completely unwilling. But just when she was about to speak, Zhang Yongchang interrupted her again, seizing the conversation.

"Mr. Liu, what you said is not quite right. From ancient times, children have followed their parents' orders and matchmakers' arrangements for marriage. Although times are changing, it's important for us to carry on these traditional virtues." Zhang Yongchang's eloquence left Liu Siyan speechless.

Liu Zhenghua's expression began to show displeasure. The conversation had shifted from discussing marriage to more like being forced into it. The other party's attitude seemed as if they intended to force his daughter into marriage regardless.

Having been in the business world for years, Liu Zhenghua's personal cultivation was remarkable. Now, however, he showed signs of anger, which meant his daughter Liu Siyan meant much more to him than his business.

"Hahahaha... hahahaha..."

Just then, an untimely burst of laughter came from the staircase.

The laughter was so carefree, as if someone had just heard a grand joke.

"Oh dear, Siyan, your yard is really big; I almost got lost. The floor's smooth too, nearly slipped."

A seventeen or eighteen-year-old young man, looking nonchalant, walked up the stairs, a carefree smile on his face.

He finally arrived, but why now?

Liu Siyan looked at Ye Xiaofan, feeling a huge sense of relief as if a huge weight had been lifted.

"You, why are you here?" Before Liu Zhenghua could react, Zhang Qiang recognized Ye Xiaofan, confusedly asking.

"If you can come, why can't I?" Ye Xiaofan slowly stepped forward to stand next to Liu Siyan.

Liu Siyan slightly raised her head, meeting Ye Xiaofan's encouraging gaze, steadied herself, and introduced the boy to her father, Liu Zhenghua.

"Dad, this is my current boyfriend, his name is Ye Xiaofan."

Clang. That statement had a jaw-dropping effect on everyone.

Not only were Zhang Qiang and his grandson stunned, but even Liu Zhenghua looked puzzled. What was his beloved daughter up to today?

"Hello, Uncle Liu. Sorry for laughing so inappropriately on our first meeting," Xiaofan knowingly shifted the topic. "By the way, who was it that just said those outlandish things about Chinese traditional virtues? I couldn't help but laugh."

"Humph, it was I who said it. I'd like to ask you, young man, what exactly was funny about what I said?" Zhang Yongchang, slightly angered, asked after being ridiculed.

"Traditional virtues, huh? Only good things are called traditional virtues. Throughout history, countless young men and women were burdened by parents' orders and matchmakers' words. Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai are the best examples. Look at Romeo and Juliet; because of family obstacles, their love ended in tragedy. What kind of traditional virtue is that?" Xiaofan was just an ordinary high school boy, without any business dealings, so he didn't have to give in to Zhang Yongchang.

Good, well said. Hearing Xiaofan's words, Liu Zhenghua was suddenly enlightened, silently cheering, as he enjoyed seeing Zhang Yongchang being put in his place by a young person.

But Zhang Yongchang was left speechless by Ye Xiaofan's words, feeling angered that with his status and power, he was being lectured by an eighteen-year-old punk.

"Mr. Liu, my grandson and I came today sincerely to propose. Where did this wild boy come from?" Zhang Yongchang asked in discontent.

"He..." Liu Siyan was about to explain when her father's glance stopped her.

"Old Mr. Zhang, I, Liu Zhenghua, am a rough person. If my hospitality is lacking today, I hope you excuse it. However, a guest is a guest. Once they enter our home, they are our guests, regardless of their status." The way Liu Zhenghua spoke in defense of Ye Xiaofan made clear his stance.

"Old sir, as it happens, I'm schoolmates with your grandson, and your precious grandson lost to me in a previous competition." Xiaofan knew just how to retort, implying that if he was a 'wild boy,' then Zhang Qiang, who lost to him, wasn't even that good.

"Nonsense, Ye Xiaofan, I only lost to you because I wasn't paying attention. I'd definitely win if we had a rematch." Zhang Qiang retorted stubbornly, though to everyone else his words appeared weak.

"Come on, needing your grandfather to help chase after a girl? Not sure what you have to brag about." Ye Xiaofan scoffed back.

Zhang Qiang turned purple with rage at Ye Xiaofan's words. If not for the elders present, he'd have wanted to challenge Ye Xiaofan on the spot.

"Heh, young man, you're quite outspoken. Very well, I take back my earlier disrespect. Tell me, Classmate Ye, who's in your family, and what do your parents do?" Zhang Yongchang's tone suddenly turned amicable as he questioned Xiaofan.

What's this old fox up to?
