Pick Up a Killer as Girlfriend

Chapter 61: Dominant Xiaofan

The transaction site, an abandoned factory warehouse, was situated to the left of a mountain called Baisha Tent, less than eight hundred meters away from Phoenix Mountain.

Unlike Phoenix Mountain, Baisha Tent was not as towering and steep but rather a very gentle slope, leading up into the forest.

However, the soil on Baisha Tent was quite fertile, fostering a scene of dense trees and flourishing undergrowth. This was precisely why Xiaofan chose the taller Phoenix Mountain to set up the meteor shower, instead of coming to Baisha Tent.

Let's not stray from the topic. At this moment, Xiaofan couldn't afford to recall the past events on Phoenix Mountain, as he tightly gripped Lin Miaoke's small hand, swiftly weaving through the trees and grasses. Gunshots occasionally echoed from behind, clearly indicating the pursuers hadn't given up.

Lin Miaoke's thigh had been grazed by a bullet earlier, causing a continuous, bloody flow. Yet, driven by a strong survival instinct, she couldn't care less about it.

Of course, not all of Lei Hu's men came to chase them; some were merely curious hooligans who quietly slipped away upon sensing trouble.

Coincidentally, those who slipped away were promptly captured by the detective bureau's reinforcement team. But by the time they arrived at the transaction site again, the suspects had completely vanished.

"Where's Lin Miaoke? Lin Miaoke, Lin Miaoke." The deputy director, who led the team, disregarded the danger, running to the site of the fierce gun battle, searching for a specific person's traces.

"Deputy, Chen Hao mentioned there should be another young man under twenty." A policeman stepped forward and remarked.

"I know, I know, but where is he? Damn it, if anything happens to Lin Miaoke, how could I possibly face my old boss in the future..."

'Bang...'

As the deputy was consumed with worry, a shot suddenly rang out from afar.

"Where's the shot from? Hurry, Lin Miaoke must be there. Everyone, catch up at all costs. Capture the drug dealers and rescue Lin Miaoke and that young man."

If this large group of police had arrived half an hour earlier, wouldn't all this have been avoided?

The sounds of gunfire grew closer, yet Xiaofan and Lin Miaoke's pace gradually slowed. Because Xiaofan was running ahead, he shielded Lin Miaoke from thorny plants, sparing her from some minor injuries.

"Ah, I can't go on, my leg, my leg is starting to numb. Go on without me; don't worry about me." Lin Miaoke finally faltered, collapsing on the ground.

Xiaofan was drenched in sweat, the dense forest blocked the moonlight overhead, and all he could see was darkness. The shouting behind them was closing in. This was as bad as things could get. And now, with Lin Miaoke unable to run anymore, were they supposed to just stay and wait for death?

There was no time to think about this. If he abandoned Lin Miaoke, maybe he had a chance. Maybe he shouldn't have thrown that box of drugs into the warehouse window earlier. If those guys could retrieve the box, perhaps they'd let both of them go.

But now, thinking was useless; those hooligans wouldn't listen to any reason. They might not even allow him to speak.

"Get on." Xiaofan quickly crouched in front of Lin Miaoke and said coldly.

"No, go on without me. Don't worry about..."

"Shut up." Xiaofan's tone was uncharacteristically harsh, indicating he was extremely furious.

Listening, Lin Miaoke obediently shut her mouth and lay on Xiaofan's back, continuing to move forward.

Being a dignified policeman, finding herself repeatedly rescued by a high school student was troubling. The person who should've been in the lead should've been her, yet she ended up being protected.

Lin Miaoke started to doubt whether she was suited to be a police officer, and what kind of person was this boy? Looking back to their first meeting at Seventh Middle School's entrance, he seemed like just an ordinary high school student. The second time at the bar, he appeared as just a boy doing some temporary work.

However, the subsequent events changed Lin Miaoke's view of Ye Xiaofan. It was he who got Fei to find her and gathered evidence, as well as tonight's transaction intelligence. And now, his aggressive bravery. Was this guy really just a high school student?

"Brother Hu, I saw them, they're over here."

While Lin Miaoke was pondering, a shout suddenly came from behind, indicating their whereabouts had been exposed.

And Xiaofan could only grit his teeth, and hurriedly increased his running pace.

Suddenly, Xiaofan's steps halted, squatting down. He gently said, "Get down."

"Hm?" Lin Miaoke was uncertain of his intentions, but the tone made her feel she couldn't refuse.

"Stay squatted and don't move." After Lin Miaoke got off him, Xiaofan instructed before suddenly running back.

Lin Miaoke's eyes widened hugely. What was he doing going back? The pursuers were almost on them. Didn't he want to live? Watching Xiaofan disappear into the darkness after just a few steps made Lin Miaoke suddenly extremely fearful. Compared with death, darkness and loneliness also had such destructive power.

'Bang.' A shot rang out. Lin Miaoke's heart leaped. She felt so helpless at that moment. If this bullet hit Ye Xiaofan, what would she do?

'Whoosh.' Fortunately, moments later, Xiaofan returned to Lin Miaoke's side.

"Get on."

"What, what did you do?"

"Quickly." Xiaofan urged, handing over his gun: "Check how many bullets are left here; I don't know much about guns."

Instinctively, Lin Miaoke grasped the handgun Xiaofan handed her, without getting a chance to ask about the situation before he began running again. Suddenly, a shocking conclusion emerged in Lin Miaoke's mind: Xiaofan had gone back to deal with the hooligan who discovered them, and the shot earlier surely must've struck the pursuer, enabling him to snatch the gun and return.

My god! This guy not only had strong physical combat skills but was also quick-witted. Lin Miaoke knew that if the pursuer who spotted them continued following, escape would be impossible. Only by resolving him could they have a glimmer of hope.

Yes, Lin Miaoke herself just realized it, but the boy carrying her had not only thought far ahead but completed it. No, even trained police officers facing such real-life threats couldn't think as clearly as he did. The boy carrying her was remarkably bold.

"Hey, how many bullets are left, aren't you going to speak?"

Sure, a highly displeased tone, domineering style. But Lin Miaoke felt no anger, calmly responded: "Two bullets left."
