"Damn. This damned weather."
Even though Xiaofan considered every possible situation, who would have thought it would rain this hard at this time? Watching Lin Miaoke almost lose consciousness in his arms, even the usually gentle Xiaofan couldn't help but mutter a curse.
Lin Miaoke had a fever, which Xiaofan had anticipated, assuming the worst would be a fever of around 40 degrees. But combined with the cold, rainy weather, it created such a harsh environment that Xiaofan couldn't predict. If they waited until tomorrow, who knows what might happen to Lin Miaoke.
If he had known it would be like this, Xiaofan should have tried climbing up to the top of the valley this afternoon. Now, whether they wanted to or not, they had to give it a shot.
"Ye Xiaofan, I'm so scared, please don't leave me here alone." Instinctively, Lin Miaoke's trembling body pressed closer to Xiaofan.
"Hey, don't sleep, Lin Miaoke, give me half an hour, after that you can sleep however you want." This was Xiaofan's last resort when he really had no other options. It was a bit risky.
"What are you doing?" Lin Miaoke looked weakly at Xiaofan. She hadn't eaten all day, and with injuries on her body, she was almost completely exhausted.
"If you dare close your eyes, I'll take off your clothes, strip your pants, and then..."
"You, you, what do you want to do?" Hearing this, Lin Miaoke's eyes widened in shock.
"Listen, give me half an hour, we need to climb up now, no matter what, we have to try." Originally they were going to take a break today to recover energy, but they didn't expect the situation to deteriorate further.
"No, I have no strength left, and it's raining. That wall is so slippery, with rocks and mud falling. It's too dangerous." Upon hearing this idea, Lin Miaoke immediately refused.
Before Lin Miaoke could finish speaking, Xiaofan's hand suddenly reached out to the front of her. Without warning, he grabbed the first button.
"Ah, bastard, let go. You, despicable, dirty, shameless, hateful... don't touch me."
"Then I'm going to leave you here alone." Xiaofan had no choice; he couldn't act in this manner convincingly. He was just trying to scare Lin Miaoke to restore her spirit.
"You, you won't."
"Listen, to survive, to not leave regrets in this life, you have to fight to stay alive. The rain is getting heavier, and there's no drainage in this valley. I'm afraid it will be flooded by morning, and you'll drown even if the fever doesn't kill you. Do you understand?" Xiaofan spoke harshly.
"But..."
"Trust me, I'll protect you." Xiaofan looked seriously at Lin Miaoke.
"Okay."
With great difficulty, he finally persuaded the nearly unconscious girl. However, climbing up in the most dire conditions and environment wasn't something just anyone could do.
But Xiaofan had been a child who grew up in the mountains, and even though he wasn't entirely confident, he couldn't place his fate in the hands of others.
Here, the vines were the best climbing tools. The vines in the mountains were large and sturdy, even tougher than ordinary ropes.
"I'll swim you to the other side, try to conserve your strength." Xiaofan said, and once again squatted down, trying to carry Lin Miaoke on his back.
"Why..." Lin Miaoke had just collapsed onto Xiaofan's back, preparing to ask something, when Xiaofan interrupted her.
"The other side is lower, although there are rocks, since it started raining today there hasn't been a collapse, so you don't have to worry about things suddenly falling down when climbing." Xiaofan knew what she was about to ask, so he answered directly.
Reentering the water, the cold pond water once again engulfed their bodies. Attached to Xiaofan, Lin Miaoke watched the opposite side gradually approach.
"Hey, aren't you wearing a bra?" Suddenly, Xiaofan blurted out.
"Ah? How do you know? Did you peek today?" Lin Miaoke was startled and quickly asked.
"No, just felt really soft on my back." Xiaofan teased as he swam laboriously.
"You..." Upon hearing this, Lin Miaoke wanted to get angry, but at this point, she couldn't care about such things: "What on earth do you have in your head?"
Once on the other side, Lin Miaoke stood dazedly in front of the rock wall, while Xiaofan went to find vines.
"Wait here for me, there's a banyan tree on top of the rock wall, it should be able to support both of us. I'll tie the vine up there first, then come back down to get you up."
"Okay."
With those words, Xiaofan slung the vine over his shoulder and began to climb swiftly. His movements were extraordinarily light and agile, reaching the aforementioned banyan tree in just under two minutes.
"Be careful." Lin Miaoke watched Xiaofan's maneuvers, her heart inexplicably aching. Could it be that he could have left sooner but stayed because of her?
This overestimated Xiaofan a bit. In fact, Xiaofan's shoulder injury wasn't as simple as it looked; not only was the skin hurt, it seemed the bone was affected too. Moving it wasn't a problem, but applying pressure was excruciating. That's why Xiaofan treated climbing up as a last resort.
Having successfully tied the vine, Xiaofan's back was on fire, almost numb with pain, yet he didn't let out a sound. He tested the vine's strength with some careful, forceful tugs.
"Come, I'll support you from behind, climb up along the vine." Xiaofan said as he came back down, his breathing ragged, clearly having spent a lot of energy.
Looking at the five-meter high banyan tree, Lin Miaoke could only grit her teeth and grab onto the vine, slowly climbing up.
Xiaofan followed closely, with the two of them climbing one after the other on the vine. Whenever Lin Miaoke couldn't muster the strength, Xiaofan would give her a push from behind.
Despite feeling a bit bashful from the contact, and considering she wasn't even wearing her underwear, there was no time for such thoughts now; climbing up was their only hope for survival.
With all their might, they finally reached the small banyan tree. Standing on it, they swayed back and forth, feeling like they could fall at any moment.
Although the rock wall below had a pond, the water only went up to their ankles. Falling from five meters wouldn't be a good thing.
Even though they successfully climbed the banyan tree five meters high, they still had six or seven meters to the ground. The rest of the way, Xiaofan had to carry Lin Miaoke on his back to climb up. This task would be almost impossible for an ordinary person, especially since Xiaofan had an injury on his back.
But with extraordinary perseverance, he climbed the slippery, rain-soaked rock wall bare-handed. He used extra vines to secure Lin Miaoke on his back, mainly to prevent her from falling if she suddenly fainted.
Finally, after twenty minutes of effort, Xiaofan's hand finally touched the soft, wet soil. Almost holding his breath, Xiaofan made a final push upward: "Ah..."
With a roar, they finally made it from the valley up onto land.
"Ah, Xiaofan, you did it, you really did it, hey, Xiaofan, Ye Xiaofan, what's wrong? Don't scare me. Help, is anyone there? Somebody, please!" Lin Miaoke saw Xiaofan collapse to the ground without moving. Terrified, she quickly untied the vine around her waist. No longer caring about her exhaustion, she struggled to support Xiaofan's body, moving step by step towards the exit...
