Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 1016: 1013: More Danger

As the battle between Pamela and Tessa was ongoing, Corey was having his own fair share of a dangerous fight between Anton and Pope Arzhel.

Clang!

Bang!

Boom!

Two lights- one red and the other black, clashed with one another, and when they separated, the figures of Corey and Pope Arzhel were revealed.

Corey slid backward with his Genesis Armament slicing through the ground, and then a fraction of a second later, he swung his giant axe backward.

Bang!

Corey split a Tier 6 walking dead in two, but his eyes widened slightly when the corpse exploded.

A dense black mist of corpse miasma and death qi covered Corey, but a second later, the world thrummed, and the corpse miasma and death qi were split into pieces.

Corey's Phantom Plague Axe Heart Intent cut every single bit of the corpse miasma and the death qi into tiny pieces.

Dozens of walking corpses ran toward him in a frenzy, and Corey merely swung his Genesis Armament at the corpses.

A wave of black lightning was released from his great axe, turning the corpses into ashes.

"Damn it."

Anton scowled with a murderous expression, and then a figure appeared beside him.

"Calm down, boy. Think before you act." Pope Arzhel held the shoulder of Anton while looking at Corey with a frown.

"Stop talking like you've been able to harm him in any way." Anton scoffed while slapping Pope Arzhel's hand away.

The Book of Death in his hands opened rapidly, and then it stopped on a particular page that had the drawing of a staff.

The page glowed, and then a staff made out of skulls appeared out of the page.

Anton grabbed the staff, and then he pointed it at Corey. A ball of wailing souls shot out of the staff.

Although this attack was powerful enough to turn an average peak Tier 6 to dust, Corey calmly swung his Genesis Armament at the ball of wailing souls.

His eyes emitted a yellow light as the weak spot of Anton's attack was revealed to him through his Eyes of Truth and Judgement.

A thin line appeared on the ball, and then it split in two, with each halves crashing into the walking dead that were approaching him.

Without the world tree which improved his tier and physical stats to Tier 5, he would not have been able to see the weakness of Anton's attack before the fusion.

'With my improved stats and Tier, I can react to their attacks, and with the world tree's essence running through me, I can also process a lot of things faster and more easily.'

'If not, there's no way I'll be able to see the weakness of the attack of a Tier 7. Talk less of cutting through it.'

Corey shifted his gaze to Pope Arzhel who was wearing a dark crimson armor, and his brows furrowed slightly.

'Although I caught him off guard, he was able to react quickly by summing his armor. Tsk. I thought I'd be able to deal a fatal blow to him.'

"What the hell? How is he able to cut through my attacks? What sort of a monster is he?" Anton asked with a deep frown, and Pope Arzhel scoffed.

"Isn't that why I told you to think before you act. He probably gained an ability to see through the weaknesses of an attack or objects after fusing with the world tree." He looked at Anton with a cold gaze, causing the young leader to tremble slightly.

"You should stop treating him like a mortal and an insect. At the moment, he's a threat to both of us, and I'll rather kill you myself if you're going to be a hindrance rather than of assistance."

As Anton stared into Pope Arzhel's eyes, he could not help but feel a shiver run across his spine.

There was just something about the Pope's eyes that felt... wrong to him. The Pope emitted the aura of a Tier 6, but Anton could feel his instincts warning him that the man was far more dangerous than he thought.

'Monsters... All of them.'

Pope Arzhel could guess what was going through Anton's head, but he didn't give two fucks.

He looked at Corey who looked like a king of divinities, and Pope Arzhel's eyes could not help but flash with a reminiscent light.

"I remember the first time I saw you, Corey. The boy from back then, and the boy before me now... Even if I was told by the most powerful seer in the universe that that boy was going to become this powerful, I would have never believed... Truly remarkable."

Corey tilted his head slightly and looked at Pope Arzhel with a cold and indifferent expression.

"Tell me boy. How did you become this powerful? Was it luck? Or do you perhaps have a secret that could only help you when mana was introduced into your world?"

"I know of people that usually family heirlooms that would only activate itself when the owner is in a life threatening situation or when certain conditions are met."

"Are you by chance somebody like that? Or are you a favoured child of the heavens where you obtained an extremely lucky and maybe... a paragon like opportunity at the beginning of the apocalypse?"

Corey's pupils constricted into needles the moment he heard the word, 'Paragon', from Pope Arzhel.

Although his expression remained, Pope Arzhel who was paying close attention to any changes in his expression noticed the way his eyes constricted, and a smirk appeared on his face.

'He knows.'

A dark and cold light flashed in Corey's eyes when he saw the Pope's smirk, and he knew that the Pope somehow knew that he was a Paragon or related to Paragons in some way.

'How does he know about my relationship with Paragons? How does he know about Paragons when nearly nobody knows about them? And why do I feel more danger from him than from Anton with the Book of Death?'
